A list of puns related to "Greek royal family"
I have seen many posts and comments here recently of people saying that the Greek royal family (House of Glรผcksburg) are not descended from any Byzantine Emperors, but thatโs not true, they actually descend from multiple houses.
The descent of many Byzantine dynasties to the Greek branch of the House of Glรผcksburg is as follows:
Komnenos (Male):
Komnenos (Female):
Palaiologos:
Greetings r/greece friends,
A Canadian here with a basic question. Apologies if this is out-of-place.
Occasionally I read about Greek-Canadian or Greek-American people with family names like Palaeologos and Lascaris -- which were also the names of long-running Byzantine royal houses / clans in the Middle Ages.
My guess would be that very few of these modern families actually descend from Byzantine emperors, and probably instead got their name when a lesser noble ancestor adopted it for prestige reasons.
Does that sound correct? And in the modern sense -- how are these family names perceived in Greece or the Greek diaspora today? Are they seen as notable, or haughty, or do people just not really care?
EDIT: Efcharisto for the really interesting discussion, I learned a lot!
Additionally, does Antigone, as the oldest surviving direct descendant of Oedipus, have claim to the throne? Or were solely ruling queens not recognized in ancient Greece?
It's just rather confusing how interrelated so many Royal families throughout Europe are.
I know the Marines train a bunch with the British and Dutch. What are the thoughts on them as well as the others? what do you think of their capabilities or training in comparison to US Marines?
This story has been going on for a while with update from the author but it has more recently gotten a more regular chapter release schedule so I'd thought that I would recommend it.
Here is the blurb on the site:
>The saying goes that when a man is born the Fates weave his destiny and swaddle him in it. Then one day the man dies, and the swaddle becomes a shroud. Heaven moves on.
>
>It is audacity to question the Fates. Olympus is Olympus. The land of men is the land of men. To transgress that, to cross the line of divinity and scale Olympus Mons? To defy the Fates and cast off their threads?
>
>That is hubris. Itโs a mark that every philosopher bears plainly on their soul.

A random bit of trivia I came across which felt worth sharing. If it isn't clear, the event at that point in time was a round robin, without direct elimination.
