A list of puns related to "Grass carp"
They where my favorite food when I was 3 according to my dad so we want to catch some to eat so any tips on how to catch them would be great
Just wanted to share my experience in the upper Niagara river and lake Erie yesterday. We normally fish the mouth of the river in Erie and generally catch Walleye, Smallmouth and Sheephead very regularly. We've caught grass carp here and there, maybe 1 or 2 per year. No big deal right?
Yesterday, we scoped out the area with our aqua vu underwater camera and what we saw was alarming to say the least. Grass carp absolutely everywhere. There were so many that the camera kept slamming into them as we passed. And there were no other fish to speak of other than a few stray Sheephead.
My friend called the provincial carp hotline and had to leave a message, seemed like they are swamped with calls. Anyone else having the same experience? They definitely weren't here in these kind of numbers last year.
Thanks!
I've been fishing on the Wabash River in Indiana and there are tons of what I assume to be grass carp feeding on the surface. Eveytime I go there are hundreds in schools nipping stuff at the surface. I've also seen them sucking on fallen trees in the river and I have no idea how to catch them. If I could some advice on grass carp fishing strategies it would be greatly appreciated!
My grandfather wants me to fish for grass carp for population control, I'm happy to do it, but I don't know what kind of bait is best.
Hello chicagoans, Iβm really into carp fishing and Iβve only caught commons here. Whereβs the best place to catch some grass carp? Preferably near by Chicago
So my parents live on a shared lake/pond. Itβs about 15-20 acres. The neighbor who was handling some of the finer points of managing it has gotten a little too old to handle it. Itβs an artificial pond that has large areas that are 20+ feet deep, and other large areas that are 3-4 feet deep.
Historically the lake contains, bluegill, largemouth bass, blue cats (introduced by my father in the mid 90s), and a small crappie population that lives in the deeper side of the lake near the dam. There was a small population of triploid grass carp as well. Aside from an occasional fishing trip, I donβt really have much to do with the pond. I use it as much as I can, but Iβm not involved in its management. The blue cats seem to be the dominate species, because we donβt really pull large bluegill or bass any more.
There was a population of triploid carp, and according to my father, there still is a bit of one. Although they may be down to the single digit numbers.
The carp were introduced to control the weed population, but theyβre coming to the end of their useful life. My little crank baits were coming back covered in grass probably 40% of the time.
The topography of the lake means that about 5 acres are conducive to grass growth. The remainder is too deep to worry about.
I was hoping to get some input as to some of the cons for supplementing the current population. What are the negative consequences if I were to put in-say-8 triploid carp specifically towards the other established species in the lake. I know that they will help my crank baits not get hung up, but Iβm not too sure of what their impact will be beyond clearing up some of the grasses that are a bit of a nuisance.
