A list of puns related to "Gestational diabetes"
For anyone who is worried that itโs going to taste bad, donโt worry. It tastes not good, but also not bad. Mine didnโt have a flavor. It was refrigerated. I was able to drink the entire thing in under a minute by just chugging it.
I would describe it as basically sugar water. It was slightly viscous almost like a yogurt drink consistency. Overall if you drink it fast it basically tastes like water.
I had been worried it was going to taste bad but it didnโt so just an FYI to anyone wondering.
I recommend chugging it if you can. I did, and i finished it in under a minute. Maybe go in a bit thirsty so that its easier to chug.
Edit to add: i did feel a bit nauseous after, and my baby went crazy with the kicking lol. I feel totally fine now and my baby is a lot more calm.
So I had the 1 hour test yesterday. OB called back today saying my blood sugar looked a little high. She wants me to do the 3 hour test in a couple weeks (getting tested for covid today, because symptoms bloomed overnight). โน๏ธ Just need some words of confidence. I don't wanna have to prick my finger and watch what I eat even more carefully.
I'm 16 weeks & the closer I get to the glucose test the more I am panicking about potentially having GD. All I am craving is sugar and carbs bcs its all I can keep down without feeling terrible. I know it's so bad and I need to change my diet or there is a high chance of me being diagnosed, mainly because I am already considered overweight, but ugh. The thought of pricking my finger every day makes me sick to my stomach, I don't think I could handle it. Any tips on preventing it or trying not to think about it so often?? :/
In my past pregnancies I never had GD, despite my BMI being high. In fact, my blood sugar and A1C have always been low/normal. My husband has Type 2 Diabetes, so I've monitored my blood sugar on and off for yrs. I'm 28 wks with my 3rd and just had my 1 hr glucose test. I failed... I know on Monday my OB will say I need to do the 3 hr test until we know for sure if I have GD... What I want to know is, if you have/had GD did diet and exercise help or did you have to medicate as well?
I got GD with my first. I managed it extremely well, but it kind of broke my brain a little bit. The anxiety of checking my sugar numbers after every meal, obsessing over what my body can and can't handle carb wise.... really not looking forward to that again. Four years later and there's still a voice in the back of my brain worrying about my insulin response if I have, like, a tiny piece of cake.
Did anyone else feel sick during and right after the 2 hour test? I googled it and it said some do and itโs more common with the three hour than the one hour. My OB started with the two hour so I have nothing to compare it to. I felt queasy during but after the two hour I got hot, tired and a bit dizzy. I felt better after I ate a bit. Anyone have a similar experience?
I had an induction at 39w0d for gestational diabetes. I went into it worried about how painful it would be and if the induction would be successful. In the end I had the birth I wanted and am very grateful.
The week of my induction my MIL tested positive for COVID. We had seen her the night before and I was SO worried because, if I tested positive, I would only be allowed one visitor and I really wanted to have both my mom and husband present. Fortunately I tested negative for COVID so we were able to proceed as planned.
I was admitted to the hospital on the morning of 1/7 and started vaginal misoprostol for cervical ripening. They placed a new pill every 4 hours or so. I was barely dilated at all and 50% effaced when starting out. That day I walked the halls with my husband and bounced on a yoga ball as much as possible. I felt cramping off and on but was very comfortable. My mom stopped by to check in in the evening and set up our room with battery powered string lights, LED candles and a diffuser.
By late evening I was about 1.5 cm dilated. The midwife tried to place a foley bulb at that time but was unable to (posterior cervix and may not as dilated as she thought?). We decided to just keep up with the misoprostol overnight. In the end I was glad the foley placement was unsuccessful because my husband and I slept well through the night - contractions were not bad enough to keep me awake. I was grateful to get the sleep!
The next day we finished up with the miso (got 6 doses total). Foley bulb was placed around noon and successful this time! The bulb gave me some significant contractions. I remember thinking that if this was what early labor felt like I didn't stand a chance! Contractions laster for an hour or two. The nurse and I joked about how she was a sadist when she came in to yank on the bulb to help things along. I was surprised at how large the bulb was when they pulled it out - definitely felt weird!
Around 3 p.m. I started on pitocin. Contractions at this point were milder than the foley bulb so that was nice. I walked the halls and bounced more on the yoga ball. Later in the evening contractions were stronger and the real work of labor began. My favorite position was with the head of the bed up on my knees with my arms draped over the head of the bed. I was about 6 cm. They placed a second (painful!) IV in case I needed an insulin drip (thankfully I did not).
At this point I started to lose track of time. I lost my mucous plug and con
... keep reading on reddit โกI know itโs something that canโt really be prevented/caused - itโs placenta hormones - but likeโฆ ugh.
I did the 1 hr test & my blood sugar came back high (normal 135. I was 160) So now Iโve got to do the 3 hour.
If I have it, what does that mean? Does anyone have experience with this? Do I have to test my blood sugar like if I had regular diabetes? Track my food intake? Take insulin?
Any mamas here have GDM during their first pregnancy, but not diabetic otherwise? I had it the first time, but am curious when your doctors want to start checking it this pregnancy. I have heard they do it sooner in subsequent pregnancies. Is this true?
Iโm 30 weeks pregnant and found out a little over a month ago that I also have gestational diabetes. As long as my sugar stays under 120 after 2 hours, Iโm good. They did give me info packets with meal ideas but I need more. Here are just a few notes:
Thanks for the help!
Iโm 14 weeks pregnant (ftm) and have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes. My mom is diabetic and my sister had it both pregnancies so I knew my chances of getting it were high as well. I donโt know what to do. I donโt want to do anything that will affect my babyโs health but I feel lost and scared. Iโve read that women tend to get induced early and have a c-section because of this. Both of which I am really hoping to avoid for various reasons. How did other moms cope with this? What changes did you have to make for the betterment of your baby and overall health? Are there things I should look out for? Weโre you made to get an induction and/or c-section as well? I know I may be asking a lot of questions but I honestly donโt know what Iโm doing. Iโm not in contact with my mom or sister and have no one to rely on.
Does anybody have any tips on dealing with gestational diabetes? I failed my three hour glucose test and I have a major sweet tooth๐ฅบ I am meeting with a diabetes consultant next week, but any tips would be greatly appreciated!
I know that weight is not the only indicator for getting it, but Iโm really starting to worry that I am going to get gestational diabetes!
Not sure if you feel comfortable sharing if you got gestational diabetes? And if your OB said it was due to weight, or some other reason?
I get tested in a week and am freaking out with worry. I know itโs not the end of the world, just a scary prospect
FTM and Iโm 35 +4 ! Was curious of when the OBGYN had/scheduled you to be induced ? 2 weeks ago I was told if I couldnโt control my sugar levels, I might have to be induced at 37 weeks. If I was able to control them, Iโd be induced at 39 weeks. Last week , the doctor said I was doing great with controlling my sugar levels, and I havenโt heard any updates about me being induced early.
Iโm currently still in my first trimester and I havenโt had my intake appointment yet, Iโll ask my nurse during the appointment but I also wanted the opinion/advice from you guys. Iโm pretty worried about gestational diabetes because Iโve been doing a lot of reading into testing done during pregnancy and came across this along with complications of GDM.
I have diabetes, it hasnโt been long since I was diagnosed ( Oct 2021 diabetes diagnosis and put on 500mg metformin two times a day)
My question is, if I already have diabetes does that mean that Iโll automatically have gestational diabetes as well?
I know itโs not the end of the world but I kinda feel like a failure. Iโm meeting with a dietician next week but what have people with GD been eating? What are your go to snacks? Any advice?
I saw this on the r/babybumps thread and it was hilarious (except for the ones about, โIโm having my third cupcake of the day lolโ Those just made me sad.)
Iโll go first: The only things I eat are cheese sticks, nuts and sadness.
I'll be 32 weeks this Friday.
I just found out yesterday i have Gestational Diabetes. They sent the script of the glucose meter to CVS today and come to find out they are out of stock of what I need and won't have it until tomorrow after 6pm so I'm livid rn. I feel like I'm late to the game and idk what to do. I did the 3hr glucose test a week ago and just now found out. I'm trying my best to stick to the diet without the meter.
Hi all, just seeking anyone who has gone through this what their journey as been like during, and post-pregnancy.
We've been diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes and our baby is a little bit on the smaller side. The 1-hr glucose test was above 200, and blood pressures have been high (although luckily no related signs with the high blood pressure -- i.e. headaches, vision issues, pain on right side, etc.). Those are being treated with insulin and a blood pressure medication. Those seem to be working so far *fingers crossed*.
However, we are worried and just wanting to see what others have been through.
Thank you!
Iโm so angry and sad right now, I canโt stop crying. I havenโt enjoyed pregnancy at all, and this is the cherry on top of the cake I donโt even get to have anymore. Itโs my bday on Sunday, my dad (whom I havenโt seen in almost 2 years because of fucking COVID) arrives tomorrow (!!!) and he was bringing me Argentinean sweets I havenโt had in about 3 years. Iโm just so angry, sex is iff the table, sugar is off the table, booze is off the table, enjoyable sleep is off the table. Pregnancy fucking SUCKS.
Edit: you are all so amazing and supportive, I love this sub and all its members. Thank you for making me feel much better!!
Iโm 33+2 weeks today and was told I have diabetes since around 28 weeks. Weโve been able to keep my numbers low enough with diet change to not cause any concern. But yesterday my midwife said that my fasting and breakfast levels have been higher than normal. She suggested I get blood drawn to check if thereโs any issues with my insulin. I have an appt to do that on the 30th. She said if thereโs an issue, that weโll have to transfer care to OB. Iโm highly disappointed and upset that I might not get the home birth Iโve been wanting. This is our last baby and Iโm so over the constant bad news and things not going how I wanted them to goโฆ Has anyone had to take insulin shots and still be able to deliver at home??
It's my 3rd baby, so I was feeling pretty much like I knew what to expect...and then I failed my glucose tests, and have been officially diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I have a pretty severe needle phobia and the idea of pricking my finger multiple times a day is freaking me out.
I can use all my calming techniques to shut down the mental chaos...but I'm still in so much fear of the unknown. Can anyone share their experience with gestational diabetes? Give me a sense of what I'm in for?
Hi!
So I gave birth this last august via emergency C-section and my whole labor/delivery was traumatic. I was induced at 40 weeks because I had gestational diabetes and was insulin dependent. My baby reacted poorly to the pitocin so a csection was performed after 48 hours of induction for fetal distress. I was wondering if anyone had a successful vbac with GD? Iโm assuming I will have it again so I want to know my options. Hoping to try for baby #2 once I hit the 18 month mark.
Hi Everyone - this is my first post and I hope to have some feedback and guidance during this time. I was recently diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes - which has been HARD. My doctor simply told me to "cut all sugar and carbs (or as much as possible) so I have been altering my meals. This being, I am trying to figure out what works for me and my glucose levels, but sometimes I worry I am not eating enough while trying to figure out.
The new fear isn't just gestational diabetes, but am I harming my baby by not always eating enough, since I do sometimes feel a bit hungrier that usual after every meal? I don't feel famished, but I could eat more. Just struggling to learn portion control, carb intake, etc, with this diagnosis. I gained a lot of weight in the first trimester, but the pounds have recently been adding on slowly. I am absolutely not trying to lose weight, but I am also trying to have control over my eating habits, especially now with GD.
I would appreciate any help from you! :)
Iโm 14 weeks with baby #2 and just got the news that I have diabetes again. We have a long way to go till my due date of May 28th. BUT I wanted to share a word of encouragement with you moms, when I gave birth to my first diabetes baby my body bounced back fairly quickly since my weight was being managed by my strict diet. I lost a lot of my bloating during pregnancy and felt SO much better after I started my diet. The diet sucks, the testing sucks BUT itโs only temporary! And your baby wonโt weigh a ton so your vagina will thank you! Good luck mommaโs!
I had my sugar baby last week, Dec 14th. Immediately I lost the 10 lbs at birth and over the past week have lost another 10 lbs. I actually had Gestational Diabetes so I only gained about 20 lbs during pregnancy because of the strict diet. I have not continued the diet after birth because my numbers are normal now. I've actually been eating ravenously while I breastfed my baby. Any other GDM mommas lose their pregnancy weight this fast?
Tums. Thatโs all. That is my treat. I love Tums. Hungry with heartburn? Tums.
Hi guys, I am 15 weeks pregnant and recently tested positive for GD. This is my second pregnancy with GD, but during the first (in 2017) I was not yet diagnosed with PCOS.
Last time they prescribed me Glyburide and I still had trouble managing my blood sugar, and I also gained 60lbs that pregnancy. Now that I have been diagnosed with PCOS and know that I am insulin resistant I think the Glyburide contributed to my weight gain by making my insulin resistant body produce even more insulin.
Today I submitted my past two weeks of blood sugar checks to my doctor (only diet controlled although not completely controlled since it did include Christmas week and I admittedly slacked). I mentioned that I'd like to see if Metformin was an option for me again (I stopped in the beginning of the pregnancy) since I was having issues with my fasting sugars in particular. The nurse just called and said instead of Metformin that they were going to try Glyburide again instead! I am really at a loss here, I protested a bit and she is going to talk to her again about it. This is the same doctor that diagnosed my PCOS, so I figured she was aware of it already.
Has anyone here with GD and insulin resistance used Glyburide successfully? Am I wrong for thinking a med that stimulates more insulin production is a bad idea? I already struggle with belly fat as a result of my insulin resistance. I've done really well keeping the weight gain down so far and am terrified this will mess that up for me.
I have the glucose test in a week and was informed that at Mount Sinai they are not currently having people drink the glucose drink and instead are simply doing a blood test.
Has anyone had their glucose tolerance test done through Mount Sinai recently? If so, was it just a blood test without the drink?
Thank you!
Hi! TLDR: my post meal sugars are high if I eat bread even if my macros are good. Is this normal? Whatโs a good blood glucose level?
Giving some background info cuz this is new to me. Before my second pregnancy, I had an A1C of 5.0. I was diagnosed with GDM at 28 weeks and put on nighttime insulin immediately. My numbers werent that badโฆ but my doctor wanted to keep me low because my baby was measuring large. My targets were under 80 for fasting and under 110 for meals. I did a pretty good job of staying in that range. (With nighttime insulin. Without my fasting was 94-97)
10 weeks postpartum I did the glucose 2 hour test. My fasting was fine (80) but my 2 hour was 145. My a1c was 5.7 so just barely prediabetic.
Iโm taking my weight loss as seriously as I can with a newborn and breastfeeding. Itโs been hard. Without tracking I havenโt lost a single pound after the first 2 weeks (daughter is 16 weeks old today) Iโm starting tracking now as Iโd like to get back to pre pregnancy weight before my next appt in June.
I noticed a spike the last 2 days both times I ate (healthy) bread. Is it possible some people just canโt have bread? Would love some advice. Today for lunch I had: Can of tuna, 2 slices Daveโs thin bread, 2 tbs reduced fat Hellmanโs mayo, 1 serving of whisps. The macros were: 31 carb, (6 were fiber) 22 fat, 47 protein. (500 calories total) My reading was 122.
Normally post meals Iโm 80-90.
I ate the same two slices of bread yesterday with avocado and my post meal was 145. Thatโs why I did tuna today to really lay on the protein.
Any insight? Do I have to give up bread entirely? I was hoping the multigrain seeded bread would be okay.
Also - the days macros are 84 carbs (61 net), 87 fat, 138 protein. 1725 calories.
This is our second child. She didn't have GD the first time.
I love Christmas cookies! Two years ago, I was pregnant with my son and diagnosed with gestational diabetes and I didn't eat a single freaking Christmas cookie. Not even one. Last year, my dad sent a box of homemade cookies to us, and we put a healthy dent in it, but we were civilized about it.
But this year.....oh this year. I'm 17 weeks pregnant. I'm sitting here with the box of cookies my dad sent, this year loaded up with all my favorites. My husband is at work for the next week. My OB is very nice, and very optimistic, and he keeps cheerfully suggesting that if I avoid sugar I might just be able to avoid GD this time around. But here I sit during nap time shoving delicious cookies in my mouth. Did I mention that I had awful morning sickness for the entire first trimester? I just started liking food again.....and COOKIE!!!!!
I assume I'm just fucked at this point, and at least I'll have a better idea of how to manage GD this time around. Though if you have happier stories to share with me, I'm all ears!
Damn, I really understand where Cookie Monster is coming from......
I had gestational diabetes with my first pregnancy and am expecting to have it with my second. I often had trouble finding food that would not spike my blood sugars. So, I thought Iโd share this link for fellow GD moms.
Itโs not an easy road, but I hope this helps some people.
I was just diagnosed last week but Iโm really confused so far on the numbers weโre expected to be below. One of my friends is a pharmacist who works with diabetics and told me that when testing 1 hour after eating the typical person should be below 180 to be considered โnormal.โ However when I told her my threshold should be under 140 1 hour after eating, she was kind of baffled at why thatโs so low (she doesnโt work with gestational diabetics). Does anyone know why thereโs such a big difference for gestational diabetic numbers? When comparing my numbers I was diagnosed with I would be considered normal if I werenโt pregnant, and most of my numbers so far are well below my OBs threshold.
I couldโve sworn I would have it. Iโm already prediabetic and I have pcos. Took the 3 hour yesterday and I just got the call that I donโt have gestational diabetes!! Iโve been so overwhelmed because Iโve been trying to diet. I mean of course I will still eat as healthy as I can.
