A list of puns related to "Gastroenteritis"
Nothing exciting to say about this, except I give these combined conditions zero out of ten stars. The nausea, after five days, is more or less under control, but the vertigo... yikes, man. I've been taking meclizine and tried to give myself a break from it. Mistake. Big mistake. I took a walk yesterday, and I felt like I was going to die on the side of the road. I have weird stabbing pains around my rib cage, and my symptoms are flaring big time.

Question.
I am curious to know if anyone has ever caught a “stomach flu” after they have been diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease? I personally never did, or at least I don’t think I ever did, perhaps the symptoms are very similar to a bad flare up. Last time I was sick I was a kid but now my husband is out of town and caught what really seems like a viral infection as a coworker came back to work after getting the same symptoms (vomiting and diarrhea). I’m supposed to go pick him up tomorrow and I was wondering if anyone would know how catching it would feel with Crohn’s Disease. Would the symptoms be worse, would it go unnoticed?
For clarity I am not really sick right now but I do feel my bowel moving more than usual (or remission-usual), which is probably due to a lack of discipline with my diet and lifestyle. I am also not on any treatment (no immunity suppressors) so I don’t think I would be more prone to catch it or feel sicker because of that but since this virus is quite contagious I am very likely to catch it regardless. Any thoughts or advices?
I know, kind of a gross topic, but I need to learn about this, talk about it and prevent it. I made a batch that has basically a 100% chance of giving you gastro. I know because over the week+ I've been drinking the keg it gives it to me when I drink it and I don't have it when I don't. It also nailed my dad AND my brother (the only other two people to sample). It even gave my dad a freaking fever, which is apparently an official symptom of bad gastro.
The question is, what is the most likely thing causing that?

As stated in the title above, I had gastroenteritis a while back on the 28th of November. My stools were primarily water and I had bowel movements what felt like every 30 minutes for a couple days. I visit the doctor the day after and he recommended some probiotic pills. I got too careless and I took 3/4 per day hoping that it would resolve my gastroenteritis really quickly but now I have diarrhoea every couple of hours now. I stopped taking the pills 2 days ago hoping that it would stop.
So, here’s the question. I understand that overdosing on probiotics will cause the symptoms (gas, bloating, diarrhoea)mentioned above but how long would it take for my bowel movements to return to pre gastroenteritis levels. The discomfort is quite aggravating. Thanks
Had to go to the ER…. Was just that dehydrated that I couldn’t even think or see straight.
This has affected me more or less since age 18. I’ve always had gut issues but I never had a vomiting problem til adulthood. I do have severe anxiety and depression as well as autism spectrum disorder. The thing that got me to know about this was my aunt’s wife’s cyclical vomiting.
Anyway I got sick Friday early morning and I’ve been sick since. I think anybody else would be over it, but nausea gives me such a feeling of extreme panic that it feels like the worst thing ever. Like panic attack, all day every day that I’m nauseous.
I know (I think?) that to stop this little cycle I need to stop puking even if I feel like I have to. I don’t want to puke… let’s get that straight. I hate it. It’s nasty and feels horrible. But often to “get relief” I “have to”. I’m really trying to break that cycle.
It was worse for me a few years ago but has gotten better. But the feeling of nausea is so mortifying to me. I just can’t handle it. It’s the worst sensory thing ever.
I’m trying to hang in there.
I’m currently 18 weeks pregnant (35 years old, 156lbs and 5’6”) with my 2nd baby and earlier this week I came down with what I think was gastroenteritis which came on very suddenly and had sharp stomach pains.
The first bowel movement was very hard as I’ve been slightly constipated this pregnancy however the subsequent ones were very watery I also had a fever.
The last couple of bowel movements had blood in them (what I would call a period but out of my bottom - not like a haemorrhoid bleed that’s bright red)
I didn’t go to the hospital as I was able to keep water down and after 2 days I started to feel fine again (apart from a couple of cramps) Today I’m now feeling back to my normal self and eating and drinking fine.
Every time I now have a bowel movement there is a small amount of what I think is left over blood.
I have no health issues and my pregnancy has been pretty smooth so far. There are no covid cases where I am from either.
I’m wondering wether I should be worried? Or if this sometimes happens with certain gastroenteritis viruses.
To add neither my toddler or husband had it or came down with it after me.
I’m unbelievably glad I went to the ER. I feel that if I wasn’t seen immediately and given the meds, I would be dehydrated to the point of ambulance time. I’m still really not okay, but it’s more of an “I’m fucking starving and low on electrolytes and can’t shove my face with as much food as possible right now” thing.
Trust. Your. Body.
This whole ordeal has given me so much anxiety. As an autistic I’m so sensitive to stimuli and less sensitive to others. I’ve heard shots in the ass were horrible…shot in my ass at the ER was nbd compared to the nausea. It was totally forgettable.
I have a problem with ignoring pain entirely but freaking out with other symptoms like nausea.
I’ve peed several times today, normal colors and amounts. Not as much as I should but after 3+ days of hardly being able to urinate it’s progress. I’m pooping things other than bile and mucus and literal water because I’ve eaten some real food (rice a few times at first, then high quality Greek yogurt). I have heart problems and my heart was pounding out of my chest due to lack of nutrition/electrolytes. It’s better mostly now by far.
Autism has me second guessing how I feel constantly. Am I being a big baby? Am I in so much pain I should be alarmed? Who knows! I have chronic health problems anyway so it’s sometimes hard to tell what’s dangerous and what isn’t. I don’t even have many real concrete diagnoses after being to many specialists. I’m told many specialists won’t touch my case. I have MTHFR mutation, am seizure prone (bad—told the ER docs not to give me anything that’ll invite a major seizure), I have a spot in my brain that isn’t normal (not a tumor but maybe a lesion or damage), chronic pain, IBS, POTS, extremely unstable joints… last year needed 6 iron infusions and had to be tested for cancer because my CBC leukocytes and neutrophils were really off. I think I have a right to be scared.
I showered after not showering for too damn long and it drained me. I felt I would just collapse into bed. Made it up just to get yogurt.
Nausea gives me such anxiety. I’ve had intermittent gastroparesis (caused by my previous extreme eating disorder I believe) and nausea makes me feel terror. Like “please sedate me so I sleep for a whole year or I’ll claw my eyes out” terror. The gastroparesis has let up a lot over the last year due to recovery. Even halfway into recovery I suffered relapses.
I’m thankful my work is understanding and they’re not forcing me to be back ASAP.
Edit : acute gastroenteritis
Hi all, any experience with this condition? I have a patient (inpatient) who is suspected to have it (based on GI work up). Plan per GI recs is to trial an elimination diet (egg, dairy, wheat, soy, seafood, peanuts) and a prednisone taper. It seems odd to do the steroids and diet therapy at the same time as it might make tough to tell which variable is helping alleviate symptoms. Any thoughts are appreciated, thank you.
I don't know why I'm crying I guess I needed to vent I haven't slept all night I kept throwing up everything and my stomach is f****d up and my back hurts for some reason I've been in bed all day missed school and I'm just miserable wanna sit here and cry all day
Very curious on how the gastroenteritis virus(stomache flu) works. Is it literally in the stomach? how would it survive the stomache acid?
I think it was the broccoli. Woke up at 3 am because the stomach pain was absolutely unbearable
Just got stomach flu a few weeks ago and STILL have not gotten over it. Still having bad stomach cramping and my GP has NEVER been worse. I’m not even eating at this point. How should I go from here? I know we are all different but I just don’t even have ideas anymore. I couldn’t even eat plain rice and pesto the other night. Two bites. I’m just wondering, what will happen at my next gastro appointment next week? I just can’t see any solution in sight.
My mom went to the ER tonight with stomach pain and nausea. I was the only family member available to go with her. They thought it was her gallbladder or a hernia but all the tests came back normal and they diagnosed her with gastroenteritis (stomach flu) She said she didn’t v* or have diarrhea, it was just the stomach pain. I was double masked and plan on stripping and showering as soon as I get home. I kept my masks on in the car and my husband (who picked us up from the ER) put his on after she was already in the car a minute. She had a mask on maybe 50% of the time at the ER and I think she left it on in the car.
I have been doing so good with my phobia lately but this has just set me off! Now I get to worry for the next however many day about if I was exposed. My stomach already hurts just thinking about it!
The title says it all.
About a week ago I woke up at night and I had to go to the loo. I am not sure about the reason, it could be stress, the visit to the petting zoo, the lot of sushi that I was eating the weeks before, or just the pizza that I naively ate when I thought that things could not get worse and it got a lot worse after.
Anyhow, for 6 days in a row I am eating nothing but toast, drinking water and tea and pissing liquid from my ass 5-10 times per day.
I am taking Gelsectan, L-glutamine and Vivomixx/Visbiome probiotic now hoping that they help.
I visited the doctor (I live in the Netherlands) and I was told that any stomach bug can take 7-10 days to recover, and before that they are not going to do any kind of examination. I receive a cup for stool test to take back in a few days if it does not get better and that is it.
I am just really worried that it will never get better and that this will be my new normal from now on. So I am looking for stories how other people recovered who were in my shoes before.:( I am just looking for positive examples, to know that it will get better as it is really affecting me mentally.
Have been feeling nauseous for almost a week. Worst is, about 15 mins after eating heavier foods, it feels like I swallowed a bag of stones (bloated and full, as if I can’t digest it, even if portion is not that big). Then settles down after a while but some nausea and headache persists between. No sharp or obvious pains anywhere. More like gnawing pain making me miserable and tired the whole time, with a weird headache (front, above eyes), as if something pressing on my head. Anyway, getting blood work done later today but for ultrasound will need to wait weeks. They won’t do it in AE unless you are in terrible pain, have fever and vomiting. My symptoms are not that extreme but persistent enough to interfere with my day. Any advice how to distinguish the symptoms and work out which organ it is that is actually malfunctioning? Taking some gaviscon which seems to calm things down a bit but the nausea and tiredness don’t completely go away.
Info about my baby: 8yr old neutered chihuahua mix, around 10lbs. Up to date on vaccinations, recieved monthly heartworm and flea/tick medication.
About 2 days ago, my dog stopped eating and starting having diarrhea. I took her to the vet the following day and she was diagnosed with gastroenteritis and was given some probiotics to help with the diarrhea and a shot for the nausea and vomiting (yesterday). Today i noticed she was still having pretty bad diarrhea, wouldn’t eat, and vomited once. I ended up taking her back to the vet this morning and they gave her some fluids under the skin, another nausea shot, and some liquid antibiotics for the diarrhea (along with the probiotic) (11am). It is now 10pm and she seems really fatigued/tired, not interested in food, and seems to be in pain from the fluids they gave her under the skin. The diarrhea has somewhat slowed, no vomiting today.
I’m not sure if i should take her to a emergency vet, or wait it out…. I know these medications can sometimes take a minute to work, and she might be fatigued from not having food in 2/3 days. I’ve been trying to feed her by hand but she won’t eat a lot.
Any thoughts? Tips? Stuff i should try? I’m in a loss. I just want to help my baby.
