Hey folks! Like the title says, Iβm looking for some drummers I can introduce my little nephew to. Here are some that Iβve already shown him:
Buddy Rich
Art Blakey
Mark Simmons
Danny Carey
Brann Dailor
Neil Peart
Gavin Harrison
Looking forward to your recommendations, and thanks in advance!
EDIT: I am floored. Thanks all, great suggestions, you guys are awesome.
EDIT 2: Some of you raised a point about potentially discouraging or intimidating him with some of the flashier players, which is an excellent point I hadnβt considered.
He wanted to make a cymbalic gesture.

So who do you think is underrated? Iβm looking for some real underrated drummers, not household names for drummers.
I personally think every drummer that played with the punk band RKL. Original drummer Bomer was crazy good, huge influence on every 90s punk band. Very fast and very tight, he upped that style of playing for everyone that came after. I believe he recorded an EP with a drum stick taped to a broken wrist. Next was Dave Raun, again just w great drummer that plays blisteringly fast and makes it look easy. He is the current drummer for Lagwagon. Finally is Derrick Plourde, and possibly my favourite. He was also the first drummer for Lagwagon. Iβve read in interviews he only listened to jazz, and I think it reflects in his playing. He can play the standard stuff very well, but he also plays things you wouldnβt expect. I think Move the car, and Rifle by Lagwagon are good examples of this. He played for a few different bands as well, most well known is probably The Ataris.
So who do you think is underrated?
Every episode, we see her character development, we look forward to her scenes, Cara Gee is unmatched, she captivates her role so well.
She is the main character that came out of the side role.
He became Sir Cajun Rhythms
In r/television someone said she might be better
A one! A two! A one, two, three, four!
Total fucking badass but human as well. >!Going face to face with Avasarala in front of the whole station was ballsy.!< Her character development has been amazing.
I see so much more that could be told with the rings and all but they're going to end it instead. So sad.
R.I.P.
The Rev: James "Jimmy" Owen Sullivan (February 9, 1981 β December 28, 2009)
Can be from a band or tv show but the character has to play the drums and I don't mean like a one-time thing I mean they do it consistently! (This is to avoid those shows that have like the musical eps)!
Also If you can try to pick from more "musical shows" (Wanna watch stuff lmao). I will try to list some of what you guys said!

In online drumming communities, it is the cardinal sin to "overplay," with groovy pocket drumming being fetishized. There is this belief that the drums must "serve the song" and that fills should be "tasteful." Moreover, groove is viewed as more important than "chops."
I actually agree with a lot of this - it sounds terrible when you're playing random fills or being too busy on say, a simple pop song where a single four on the floor beat is more powerful and gets people dancing. Sometimes anti-fills, or pauses, are powerful, with "less being more." But I do believe a lot of genres, including jazz, latin, prog, and metal actually do call for busy, "overplayed" drums, and you shouldn't underplay the drums either. In these instances, it is actually that "more is more."
If Buddy Rich were alive today, I bet you a lot of drummers here would complain of him "overplaying" and being "too busy" and "not serving the music." But because he didn't treat the drums as a backup, support instrument, but also a leading one, he played some really iconic drumming parts which made him a legend.
Greyson Nekrutman is an up and coming jazz drummer who is legendary with his chops and skill, and he's not afraid to show it, which I absolutely love. Some may call his style "overplaying," but I am always in awe of what he plays and I think it actually enhances the song, not detracts from it.
Here, Greyson talks about his favorite drummer, the great legendary jazz drummer Sonny Payne, about how Sonny Payne wasn't afraid to take risks and "overplay" where most drummers would have underplayed, and that led him to write and perform such iconic fills and solos. Sonny's performances were so entertaining in large part to him absolutely chopping out and enjoying the hell out of doing so.
Even in other genres, you could argue 311 and blink-182 could be served better in their pop-punk drumming style with less busy drums, but both Chad Sexton and Travis Barker wanted to make the drums more of a lead instrument, to great effect. Neil Peart, one of the best drummers of all time, wrote really busy drum parts. In classic rock, Keith Moon wrote some ridiculous "overplaying" drum parts that fit perfectly with the band. Van Halen's "Hot For Teacher" has quite thunderous nonstop drums, but the song wouldn't be the same without it.
Of course, doing things like adding double bass blast beats to an Adel

Edit: Considering the breadth of responses, I should have made it top 5 or 10 because clearly 3 isn't enough and everyone had to leave out other favorites.
I feel like the white people paintings of unarmed fife and drum players is stupid. Somebody show out and show me a 100-200 year old depiction of a military musician armed to the teeth.
Iβd love some ideas!! Happy hols drum legends
