A list of puns related to "Drugstore Cowboy"
I recently discovered Denis Johnson and his short story collection Jesusβ Son and Iβm absolutely blown away by his writing. as a recovering addict myself iβm no stranger to the subject matter and in a way itβs sort of cathartic to read authors who have gone through similar stuff so iβm wondering if anyone has any similar suggestions?
Yes, Iβve read βRequiem For A Dreamβ as well and even Last Exit to Brooklyn so no need to suggest those. Iβm also looking into more of Denis Johnsonβs work too so other authors/books would be preferred. thanks in advance to anyone who sees this
I subscribe to the CinePod podcast, and the show is consistently great, but I have to say that this one really stood out to me. If you are a fan of Wes Anderson, you'll probably really enjoy this deep dive into the cinematography of his movies.
Is the new Imprint release of Drugstore Cowboy going to be able to play on a Canadian blu ray player? I read that Imprintβs Black Sunday is not playable on most US/Cad players
Watching drugstore cowboy as itβs probably my favourite film. I love anything William S Burroughs. It got me wondering if anyone here ever used to hit pharmacyβs to get a score? I canβt say Iβve never thought about it haha.
Seen the movie read the book multiple times used to own a copy but can't find it. Would be greatly appreciated! :-D
Matt Dillon and his crew of junkies rob drugstores while evading the police. I was really surprised how much I liked this one, as itβs low budget and only Gus Van Santβs second ever film. I think I expected a very documentary-y kind of film where nothing too dramatic happens and they just try and show you how depressing the life of a junkie is, but itβs actually really entertaining without ever romanticising the tragic life these characters lead. Their exploits in the film either bring them huge success like a drugstore robbery or crippling failure when theyβre caught and the characters walk a fine line between both throughout the film. Matt Dillon is very likeable in the lead role but you really start to see the cracks emerge in his lifestyle and the relationship between him and his crew. Really good film and I strongly recommend it.
Watching DC for the first time. Holy shit! All the junkie-isms that are relatable and whatnot. Itβs so on point. Always took Dillon and Graham as whateverβs, but goddam are they good. Currently he just hit the lamp with the club and now the deceive from the Warriors is stewing with another 5-0
Down in Austin, Texas, Richard Linklater has been hosting screenings of the best films of the '80s. Here you can watch the introductions and post-film conversations with Linklater on films like DRUGSTORE COWBOY, THEY LIVE, WINGS OF DESIRE, and more.
An all time favorite of mine, I always felt this movie has held up well over the years and they did a very good job of portraying junkies and the lifestyle realistically.
Ive always wondered what percentage of pharmaceuticals on the black market, not counterfeits, come from robbing pharmacies or are a lot of them diverted from the actual manufacturing facilities by crooked executives or the employees somehow smuggle them out. I might be way off but seems to me these more likely sources for large scale supplies on the market then can be explained by say organized doctor shopping.
Does anybody have some good stories or theories about how this actually works, Iβd love to hear them, I find it fascinating.
I havenβt seen his works beyond My Own Private Idaho, but I love the atmosphere of those two films in the title. Itβs very desolate and nostalgic, especially with the wasteland vibe and western music of MOPI. The directing and editing of both films is pretty surreal, with lots of off-kilter camera movements, spliced-in home footage and time-lapse scenery. If Iβm remembering correctly, I guess you could say Midnight Cowboy is kind of similar in style.
Thought you guys might appreciate this... Drugstore Cowboy being one of my all time favorites.
"We don't beg dope, we go out and get it."
imprints/darkwebbabytrader/deadlightbulb hit me up
So I finally got around to watching Drugstore Cowboy(1989). What do you guys think of William S. Burroughs' character's quote "I predict, in the near future, right-wingers will use drug hysteria as a pretext to set up an international police apparatus."?
I know I'm not the only person who daydreams about robbing pharmacies. I have dreams that I'm in some Cutty little town and am able to just burglarize one like Jimmy the Mod in Quadrophenia, or sometimes amped up to go in guns blazing like Johnny in OxyMorons. (He's a friend of mine in real life, so I know better to actually ever go through with it. Seen first hand what happens when people make dumb ass decisions.) And being 2017 and all, I'm sure all the good shit is kept in a safe locked PIXUS machine. But, we can dream right? If the opportunity ever presents itself though...
So Drugstore Cowboy has been one of my favorite movies for a long time now. And if you just watch the movie youβll know that the best drug in their minds is called βbluesβ, but is never identified by its name. In the movie itβs never elaborated on, and most people Iβve seen talking about it seem to think itβs a form of Dilaudid (hydromorphone), since thatβs what they end up with a ton of in the movie.
But I finally got around to reading the book, and Iβm to the part after their first pharmacy robbery:
ββHow much do you want, babe?β
Diane hemmed and hawed and finally said, βOh, I donβt know, give me a blue and a couple of sixteenths.β
Bob frowned. βYou think you can handle all that?β
βYou damn right.β
He handed her a ten milligram Numorphan tablet. It was blue and about the size and consistency of an aspirinβ¦ β¦Taken along with two sixteenths of Dilaudid in the form of two very small white pills, this dose would undoubtedly kill anyone but a confirmed addict. β
So there you go. Drugstore Cowboyβs legendary blues are just good old oxymorphone.
