Computer ratings of AEW roster (as of 12/8 airings)

I fed the entire history of AEW singles matches on cagematch.net into a Glicko2 rater (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glicko_rating_system), which calculates a rating for each competitor based on whomst they compete against and the results. Here's everyone that's wrestled in the past few months, and how they're rated. (In parens is the Glicko2 measure of uncertainty.) Basically an indication of how strongly they're booked, based on who they've beaten and lost to:

  1 CM Punk 2260 (216) 8-0
  2 Bryan Danielson 2116 (143) 13-0-1

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

[Spoilers TWoW] The Definitive Case for Andrey Dalt being the informant

I saw there was a poll recently about Doran's informant, so I'm bringing over this older theory I posted years ago on the main subreddit because I'm 100% convinced that Andrey is the right answer, and I think more people should be aware of it! :D

I. The Context

The identity of Doran's informant is an open mystery Gorge sets up for the reader (as well as Arianne herself!) in AFFC, before cleverly deflecting from it with the shocking reveal of the Dornish Master Plan.

The first thing we must get out of the way is the context of the Queenmaker plot and how exactly the information got to Doran. Understanding this will help us draw our conclusions when analyzing some of the clues and looking at some of the other suspects.

1. The purpose of crowning Myrcella and why it was a bad idea

Before Arianne attempted to put it in practice, the notion of crowning Myrcella was floated around by both Oberyn and Tyene. What were they hoping to achieve with this? The same thing Obara wanted to achieve by torching Oldtown - to twist the Lannisters' hand into attacking Dorne on its own turf. After all:

>In centuries past, many a host had come down from the Prince's Pass with banners streaming, only to wither and broil on the hot red Dornish sands. "The arms of House Martell display the sun and spear, the Dornishman's two favored weapons," the Young Dragon had once written in his boastful Conquest of Dorne, "but of the two, the sun is the more deadly."

This kind of reasoning makes perfect sense for Oberyn and his daughters, who are brash, overconfident warriors. To them, this is a brilliant strategic move. Dorne can't really invade the realm, but if the Crown's army comes to Dorne, they can ride circles around it, harry it and hide and let the sun do their job, just like they did with the Targaryens of old. They don't really care what happens to Myrcella once the war starts. Crowning her is simply a provocation that can't be left unanswered. It might even suit them to allow the Lannisters to kill her, because then half the realm would see them as accursed kinslayers.

Doran has a better perspective on things, though. He knows that Dorne doesn't have as many spears as people tend to believe. He knows that Dorne, with all its brilliant tactics, sometimes lost against the Targaryens, and the realm has learned from that. He knows that a war - a war started by them and motivated by vengeance, not a defensive fight for independence - could eventually motiva

(spoilers main) I love the abundance of action scenes and the absence of stereotypical action heroes

I apologize if this has been discussed before, but I’m new here. I think one of the many great aspects of ASOIAF is the abundance of cool action scenes coupled with the fact that GRRM (mostly) avoids tropey action heroes, i.e. when a (usually white, male, attractive, socially advantaged, funny) character uses his epic skills at violence to do good and save the day (while looking great, having lots of sex and making witty remarks). I’m thinking James Bond, Aragorn, Jason Bourne, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Duncan Idaho, Jon Snow in the show, etc.

ASOIAF does have many instances of white, advantaged, attractive men using their amazing skills at violence to save the day, but they almost entirely occur off screen, e.g. Barristan slaying Maelys β€˜the monstrous’ and saving the king from captivity in Duskendale, Arthur Dayne defeating the smiling knight, Robert defeating Rhaegar and a bunch of other commanders in single combat, Ser Garlan slaying left and right at the battle of the Blackwater, Daario’s skirmishes, Donal Noye taking out Mag the Mighty etc.

In most cool on screen action scenes the hero usually diverges from the archetypical action hero:

- Brienne probably has the most cool action scenes in the series (she wins the tourney at Bitterbridge even though the other contestants gang up on her, she sinks ser Rygers’s pursuing galley with a rolling boulder, she defeats Jamie in single combat, she fights off a bear with a wooden swords, and kills Pyg, Shagwell, Timeon and Rorge), but they don’t feel tropey (to me at least) because she is a woman who falls drastically short of the aesthetic ideals of a patriarchal society, gets ridiculed, bullied and humiliated, and has little or no traction with the opposite sex.

- Tyrion fights epically in the battle by the crossroads and the Blackwater and heroically saves (F)Aegons life, but he is an ugly dwarf.

- Sam kills an Other, semi-defeats Small Paul’s reanimated corpse and fights Dareon, but he is fat and craven.

- Strong Belwas defeats Oznak Zo Pahl in a super cool battle scene, but he is an ex-slave who β€˜couldn’t scheme his way to breakfast’. He also shits in the general direction of Meereen, loots Oznaks corpse, wipes his arse with his cloak. Not exactly Aragorn.

- Oberyn badassly defeats the mountain but only to get his skull crushed.

- Ser Jorah defeats Qotho (because his arrakh gets stuck in Mormonts hip) but there is a strong case that it would have been a much better outcome (for Dany

These aren't dad jokes...

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.

This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.

If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.

Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.

(TWOW Spoilers) The Iron Captain and The Monkey Demon (new and improved)

In the upcoming The Winds of Winter many characters we've come to know and love are going to intersect with each other. Their personalities and backstories are going to collide and the result of the concoction is going to vary from character to character.

In this thread, I'm going to touch on the interactions between two individuals that, weirdly enough, don't seem to get a lot of attention from the fandom in regards to how a potential interaction between the two might go down.

These two being Tyrion Lannister and Victarion Greyjoy.

On examination, there couldn't be two characters more different than each other. In a way, they're almost perfect foils to each other. Before I get into any foreshadowing indicated in the text of the books, I think it be best if I laid down some of these differences to give you guys an idea:

  • Tyrion has a sharp mind and uses this to great effect in understanding people's motivations and the politics surrounding them. Victarion is described as a "dullard" and "dumb as a stump" by GRRM himself, with not much knowledge or interest in the ways of greater politics.
  • Tyrion uses his wit to make jokes to entertain himself and those around him. Victarion heavily dislikes humor and it's even indicated in the text that he "mistrusts laughter".
  • Tyrion is a small, stunted dwarf with not much in the way of physical prowess. Victarion is a tall, muscular man who is a renowned warrior with great strength.
  • Tyrion regularly dismisses and mocks the idea of gods existing, thinking that all the suffering in the world proves that no gods are looking out for anyone.

>If there are gods to listen, they are monstrous gods who torment us for their sport. Who else would make a world like this, so full of bondage, blood, and pain? Who else would shape us as they have? - Tyrion ADWD

Victarion is an extremely devout religious man that believes that the suffering in life is the proof of a god existing.

>Life is pain, you fool. There is no joy but in the Drowned God’s watery halls. - The Iron Suitor ADWD

Now, I've listed these differences to give an idea on how these two could easily be connected as foils to each other, but surprisingly there's also some similarities between the two that connects them further:

  • Both Tyrion and Victarion have murdered former lovers of theirs after they betrayed them by sleeping with a family member. Victarion kills his wife after sleeping with his brother Euron and Tyrion murd

(Spoilers Extended) The forging of Lightbringer will be an execution.

Its confirmed that its Stannis' decision to burn Shireen. This alone will never allow Stannis to be accepted by Westeros as their king and he knows it. He sacrifices not only his daughter, but his rights to the Iron Throne, his house, his family name and his whole identity. All of it in order to save the realm and he will get nothing in return. He will never be King of the seven kingdoms but he will be Night's king.

As for Melisandre, because of burning an innocent child ( ofc she will do the ritual not Stannis himself ) she will be executed by Jon Snow for all the north to see. The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword. During execution Jon owes to listen to her last words. In an eureka kind of moment for Melisandre her last words will be a request. She will plead for him to stab her in the heart.

> β€œYou heart does not concern me. Just your hands.”

> β€œThe heart is all that matters. Do not despair, Lord Snow.

-Melisandre, ADWD

by plunging a sword through her heart Jon Snow forges lightbringer.

Now Stannis being the Night's King is a popular theory nothing new. But I fully believe that Melisandre is Nissa Nissa. I see a lot of ridiculous candidates like Lyanna and Daenerys, and that's because people focus too much on the part of the prophecy which states that Nissa Nissa was Azor Ahai's wife so it makes the sacrifice more powerful and meaningful. But people overlook one huge aspect to the legend, which is that Nissa Nissa was warm. This likely means physical warmth not personality. And Melisandre gives off noticeable heat. A parallel between Melisandre and Nissa Nissa:

> The red priestess shuddered. Blood trickled down her thigh, black and smoking. The fire was inside her, an agony, an ecstasy, filling her, searing her, transforming her. Shimmers of heat traced patterns on her skin, insistent as a lover’s hand.

> Azor Ahai thrust the smoking sword through her living heart. It is said that her cry of anguish and ecstasy left a crack across the face of the moon, but her blood and her soul and her strength and her courage all went into the steel.

And I really like the idea that the forging of lightbringer will be an execution. Just like how the hatching of Dany's dragons was a funeral pyre for Drogo and not an intentional magic ritual. Everything has a double meaning in asoiaf.

P.S more evidence for Mel = Nissa Nissa

> When he turned he saw Ygritte. She stood beneath the scorched stones of the Lo
