A list of puns related to "Comparison of antivirus software"
I read a post on reddit that said that common sense and Windows Defender are enough for what I need for antivirus.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/9sca6x/should_i_ditch_antivirus_and_just_use_windows/
However, at the same time, I have experienced the fact that in the past, all the organizations I have been involved with (universities, private companies) have installed third party paid anti-virus software instead of Windows Defender on all their devices.
Is there any security advantage to be gained by installing a third party anti-virus software instead of the standard Windows Defender? Or is there another reason why I need to install it?
Does anyone have suggestions for a free antivirus software for a windows hp computer? I donβt know a lot about computers in general so Iβm looking for something easy but good. Other tips on computer upkeep would be appreciated as well! Thanks :)
As mentioned by many, BlackBerry is very diversified when you look at their products. For instance, they offer QNX for EV's, they are involved with IoT and they are in the end-point-security game where they compete with big names such as CrowdStrike.
However, did you know they offered costumer anti-virus software? Cylance offers consumer products in addition to their enterprise SaaS.
Competition ratings
Organization | Rating* | Cost yearly license |
---|---|---|
Cylance | 8 | $29 |
Windows defender | 7.6 | Free |
AVG | 8.2 | $69.99 |
Avast | 9 | $69.99 |
PC Matic | 7.2 | $50 |
TotalAV | 7.4 | $19 |
*Rating is derived from https://bestantiviruspro.org/, seems to somewhat reflect the sentiment of most people, however is mostly based on functionalities
In terms of sheer functionalities, the product may have shortcomings when comparing to AVG and Avast. However, Cylance is much cheaper and for most who just want a good AV it seems a excellent middle way solution.
Cylance is machine learning based
Since Cylance is ML based, meaning it is able to detect a virus which has not yet been detected and added to a database. This means that, in comparison to most of the competition, they are the unique since they are able to detect custom attacks. Another huge pro for AI-accelerated software is that they can be more lightweight (= faster in usage), which is also the case for Cylance.
What do you think about Blackberry Cylance Smart Antivirus? It seems like a niche product since most are fine with MS defender, but they definitely are on the right track.
Title.
I need help finding reliable anti-virus software so I don't need to screw around trying to figure out the cause of the problem again.
Thanks for any help!
Recently got a new laptop, wouldn't be adverse to paying for AV but I don't think it's particularly necessary, since I've found in the past that free ones still do a decent job.
So what do people think?
Kaspersky?
Norton?
Malware Bytes?
Sophos?
Which free AV software (or combination of softwares) will provide the best protection as we enter into the new year?
I just tested positive for covid and am trying to set up my personal laptop to work from home (office is still open). My work requires me to "provide to IT a screenshot of their antivirus software showing that it is enabled,Β up-to-date and has completed a full-scan with clean results in the last 48 hours". I am having trouble finding a free anti-virus software to give me a full scan.. the one work recommended is not available for chromebooks... any advice?
Now that we know that Avast is their shared surname and Tanavast is not a mononym we can clearly see that Avast Antivirus is an invested art, but does it draw more from Honor or Cultivation? Or is it equal like The Sibling? Can I purge my parents' PC with towerlight?
(NB: This is not an advertisement for Avast antivirus. I actually run Linux and have no strong feelings about this software. I merely want to know what those cognitive-realm elites at Silverlight University are hiding from us.)
So I've been using ESET Internet Security for 4 years now. My licence is going to expire in another 7 days so I thought of renewing it. I previously bought the same AV for 3 years license from an online store we have in our country. I've had no problems all these years so I thought I'd do the same this time coz the prices are pretty cheap there.
So while looking for the AV, there was a license which can be activated for 3 years which was "Delivered by email" for a pretty good price. I checked the reviews and everyone is saying the product is genuine and they got their license activated for 3 years.
So, since everyone is saying its good and the key is being delivered by email so I won't have to wait for it, I placed the order.
After about 5 hours I get an email BUT ITS NOT A KEY TO RENEW THE LICENSE. Instead there's a link to google drive and then there's a .rar file which is about 150mb which I need to download and extract.
After I download it and extract it. Some the files inside it:
So here are the steps in the video in order to renew the license:
From what i heard the privacy community doesn't like antivirus software. I personally find privacy and security important; if you're data is hacked it will be sold too etc. That's why i dare to ask how one balances out both things on android and win10.
On my pc i use win10, but i plan to eliminate the bad stuff with simplewall, windows ameliorated or something else, which is the reason why i don't know, if using windows security is wise. It's good, but it is surely awful for privacy.
F-Secure has not only overall the best security, but is also outside the 14 eyes.
ClamAV is open source, but supposedly has an low detection rate (if you find serious reviews please share i can't find any)
My very controversial option would be kaspersky. They are good at detection, but Jewgeni Kasperski said 2013 they even work with USA authorities to capture "cybercriminals". If somebody finds evidence they share our data with them (nowadays), than it will be of course off the table.
What are you're thoughts?
This would have been a headache in the Windows XP and even 7 days where you had to manually download and install a lot of drivers. Win10 downloads all of the drivers for you as soon as you connect it to the internet.
