In this post, I'll detail the connections between several Mario Kart 8 tracks and some locations from other games. Together, they'll come to form one of my favorite locations in Mario's world, hope you enjoy!
All these theories were discussed in the Marioverse discord server, so check that out if you're interested.
Without further ado, letβs just jump right in!
Toad City
Not to be confused with Toad Town (the Kingdomβs capital usually located right next to Peachβs Castle), Toad City is a bustling city with harbors, shops and cars driving around it all day. It is explored extensively in Mario Kart 8 (and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe), but in order to fully take in the size of this location, we must begin by piecing together the various clues left in the kart tracks themselves.
Super Bell Subway & N64 Rainbow Road
Returning from Mario Kart 64, N64 Rainbow Road went through an extensive rework for its reappearance in Mario Kart 8, making it one of the most beautiful tracks in the entire game (in my opinion), but most importantly, the largest new addition was that of an entire background composed of hills, woods, train tracks, and a large city with circular roads by the oceanside. This same city can seen in the Local Information maps seen all throughout Super Bell Subway, cementing both locations to be one and the same with ease.

Toad Harbor & Mushroom Beach
And whatβs more, if you look closely at the Local Information map, you can spot two particular names that we can assign to locations that already exist. Toad Harbor and Mushroom Beach.
The first one, Toad Harbor, is the name of another Mario Kart 8 track. This track also features the same large Princess Peach statue seen on its own island in N64 Rainbow Road. While admittedly the island itself is, well, severely downgraded from its Rainbow Road appearance, I still believe the unique element that is the Peach statue and the shared name of the track on the subway map are enough to draw a conclusive connection between the two places.

I would like to see cities through above ground transport. Preferably open air trams, trolleys, etc. I understand not every city has this. I am deciding between the cities to the north of Tokyo, and the cities south of Hiroshima. Is one region better than another for above ground open air transport ?
