I was unsure about doing a write up, But I have done it for both my previous comps and its quite nice to look back on them and to process my thoughts from the day.
So, I recently posted my write up from the southern u80 for me was a contest I was pleased with my performance and something I much wish to build on. Since then, I have been doing what I would describe a weakness building/skill block for a contest I have at the start of September. I have been doing two press sessions, one with a skill focus on learning to split jerk and general upper body builder. A deadlift session focused more on developing consistent technique as in September my contests has a max deadlift and finally a squat session as I was unable to do it for a year with all the lockdowns so slowly rebuilding up my front and back.
So last week I was offered a spot at Chippenham strongest due to a drop out, it was my first competition not in a weight class. The week building up to the comp was very stressful, my partner told me she was pregnant and I’m ecstatic to be a dad for a 2nd time but had also a large panic worrying about the future and it had a knock on with my training going out the window and trying to eat to the standard I set myself. After giving myself a shake, come the day I got up, weighed myself out of interest (83.0KG) and Basically went to the comp and treated it as a gaining experience and a training day focusing on myself.
First Event:
85KG Log, 45KG Dumbbell, 85 Axle & 70 Keg
I always consider my pressing a bit Subpar, and while I’m working on it, I’m still a bit tentative and this the only event before starting I was concerned about. I had done a OHP Medley on my first comp, Rushed the first implement and stricted pressed it and Sapped my energy so didn’t want to repeat that. Warmed up to a single at 80kg on the log and touched the other implements at no more then 60% weight purely just thinking technique. First out, Rain starting to come down. Log went up smoothly, took my time to the dumbbell, racked it well, press all good. Axle been split jerking everything recently, didn’t fancy it on the wet grass so went push press. Went up nicely - nice outdoor PB, only 7.5kg off my best. Keg was a bit more work, lost balance trying to get it off my chest, and had to take two bites of the cherry.
Event 2:
