Why Didn't the CIS Use Chemical Warfare More Often?

I was thinking about that scene in TPM where the Trade Federation uses dioxis in the meeting room. The protocol droid just walks out with no damage or difficulty (which makes sense).

Why didn't the CIS ever use chemical warfare on a larger scale? Their entire army is immune to it. Even if the clones were outfitted with filters/respirators, it still makes them much more vulnerable to equipment malfunction/damage. I imagine it would also slow down a Jedi (at the least) or force them to disengage if they were unprepared.

My first thought was cost, but surely there is some reasonably cost effective poison that exists in-universe. And the cost would be made up by forcing the Republic to invest in more expensive gear. My second thought was ethics, but it doesn't seem like either side really had any limits when it came to war crimes. [EDIT: A lot of responses are pointing to ethics / war crimes, but u/hgilbert_01 brought up the Blue Shadow Virus which shows that the CIS weren't totally opposed to the idea. Though maybe they just didn't want to be publicly associated with it.] Any thoughts?

As a bonus question: What would be the best gas for large scale military use (particularly against clones) in Canon or Legends?

How often does the Imperium engage in chemical, biological, and nuclear warfare?

The Imperium doesn’t seem like the type to give a damn about war crimes or whether using a weapon is ethical or not. They’ll use whatever they can to defeat their enemies if the benefit outweighs the cost and I’m sure they’d have the capability to produce everything I listed.

I’m sure even the Imperium would want to use nukes sparingly, as they’re probably expensive and too destructive to use liberally. But using a nuke on an Ork landing sight (probably crash landed) seems like a great way to kill millions of Orks with a relatively low cost to yourself.

Chemical warfare would also work great for area of effect damage, which would be devastating for factions like the Tyranids and again the Orks.

Biological warfare might be more restricted due to its unpredictable nature and probably bolstering the forces of Nurgle.

Need ideas for fire and chemical warfare

Hi there CDDA!

So in my current let's play I finally managed to surviva the initial infection with a Military Corpse Disposal Specialist. Since she started with a flamethrower I thought it would be neat to try and use "fire" and "chemical" based weapons as much as possible.

Here's what I found so far:

  • flamethrower is obsviously pretty neat in that it produces very hot, very long lasting flames.
  • I can make molotov cocktails with glass bottles and gasoline.
  • I tried "trailing" (Drop 1 or more units of) gasoline on the ground and igniting it:
    • Produces a small explosion, both the sound and a message but said explosion is harmless.
    • Flame doesn't spread, not even to nearby gasoline.
    • Igniting a multiple squares of gasoline next to each other doesn't seem to change this behavior.
    • Igniting a large amount of gasoline on the ground has the only effect of producing the "explosion" effect multiple times. But again totally harmless.
  • I tried "trailing" denatured alcohol and this instead seem to work beautifully:
    • No explosion or sound effect
    • Hot flames that propagate to nearby tiles
      • This is even more likely if you ignite 2x2 tiles to begin with, but it's got to be all denatured alcohol
    • After a few turns the flame grows hot enough to spread to nearby trails of gasoline
      • Surprisingly this gasoline flame is now hot enough to continue to spread to adjacent gasoline spills! (making the explosion sound effect as it catches)

Do you have tips or ideas of interesting things I could try?

Is there anything else in the "chemistry" tech tree that I could use as some sort of AOE trap? I don't know like acid, toxic gases, stuff like that?

Thanks for your help!

infection.chapter 5: chemical warfare

" virus max..." agent G said, "i am here to stop you".

"you? to stop me? are you serious?!" she said and laughed like a maniac.

" well yeah..." agent G replied, "i almost killed max last time so..."

" but i am not max!", virus max said, "i am like A parasite that draws her life force and uses her powers for myself".

"well, enough talking!" agent G said.

He drew a pistol and shot virus max in her chest. but surprisingly, the bullet didn't pierced her.

" It's cute to you trying" said virus max and then she punched him in his belly.

The hit stunned him. it was very strong, but agent G felt like there was another thing that increased the damage.

he looked at himself, and then saw a huge wound where max punched him.

the skin near the wound melted, and he really started to stress.

" How was the taste from my special ability?", she said and laughed, "acid skin!, I am untouchable, but my hits are very strong!".

He drew out his shovel and hit her, but to no effect. He drew every weapon that he has, but all of them melted when they hit her acid skin.

"my turn" virus max said and hit him in his hand. The acid burned his skin and his eyes teared from the acid fumes. agent G was trapped, unable to fight, unable to escape.

"any last request before i melt your neck?" she said and laughed.

"yes", he said and pulled out something from his bag.
