Bryophytes growing on some brick pavers but not others - what do you suppose is in those pavers that promotes / inhibits growth of the bryophytes on the north side of my double-wide in Davis, northern California, pretty moist year this year. It looks like the pavers have some kind of sand mixed in.

Might be a difference in the sand. One of the sand lots must have had some nutrients.

This is a tropical, leafy liverwort, in the genus Schistochila, from Indonesia. One of my favorite bryophytes. Requires extremely high humidity and likes to be really wet and in low light. Very slow growing.
