A list of puns related to "Benevolent dictatorship"
Obviously there are issues found in all forms of government, but I believe that a benevolent dictatorship, with Qaboos bin Said or France-Albert Rene being two of the best examples, in the long run does less damage and more benefit to the people as a whole than a democracy is capable of doing. Democracy often ends up being run by the rich and powerful for their favour and a new "royalty" is formed, take Bush or Clinton as an example where power stays in certain high ranking families and businesses. Democracies become less about what is right and more about who you are connected to. Often a misinformed group within the populace can prevent reform or advancement desired by the whole. Often in a democracy powerful originations like major world Faith's can hold an unpredictable away over a populace and results in various religious beliefs included in constitutions or political debate. Democracy results in political leaders constantly vying for re-election and as such they will often put the good of their constituents over the good of their nation as a whole. Benevolent dictatorships on the other hand are often associated with great cultural reform and advances in economy, healthcare and education, where the needs of the nation are put above the needs of the individual.
Hello everyone,
So I recently hit legend again, and I found out that hitting legend unlocks your opponents rank for you to view. This is unsettling, because I can't help but feel a twinge of guilt when I see someone who is one rank before a rank floor queue against me. I am memeing it up in dumpster legend and primarily grinding wins on my Demon Hunter to finish all classes with 1000 wins portrait - so winning is not as important to me, but it does reduce my grind. On to my question...
As someone who hits legend often, or has never hit legend before - how do you feel about being "gifted" your final win to your next rank? Does it feel relieving to finish the grind, or like a 'moment' has been stolen from you?
Legend players - do you ever gift wins? How does it make you feel to do so?
Controlling everything about the state while doing it for the benefit of the people isnβt a bad thing. Honestly, these benevolent dictators like Josip Broz Tito, Mustafa Kemal AtatΓΌrk and others ultimately kept their country together and transformed their country for the better, which means many people hold very positive images of them. Of course those two are not universally liked, and many people hate them, and they did many evil things. But you canβt deny they did many good and changed the countries they ruled.
Now, is authoritarianism good? Iβll let you to decide for yourself. I believe that a benevolent dictatorship could work, however it is not preferable. Even though I believe benevolent dictatorships might be a good thing, I still believe democracy is better for the people. Good =/= best.
Usually, when someone hears "dictator", they think of a big bad authoritarian guy and rules it with absolute power who isn't a monarch. But, who says they have to be bad?
What're your examples of a benevolent dictatorship, a leader who checks all the boxes of "dictator" that isn't Roman, yet leads their country to the benefit of the people?
My stance is that, a democracy, as long as it sticks to all the basic principles of democracy is always better than a dictatorship. I present my argument in the form of three main assertions.
EDIT: as u/samuel2342 pointed out, I'll be defining benevolent and inefficient as such Inefficient :- A democracy that follows all the basic principles of democracy, but isn't prospering. Benevolent: A dictator who works for the people's best interests and not out of selfish motives.
By a benevolent dictatorship, I mean a genuinely popular dictatorial regime led by a charismatic individial which works for the benefit of the population as a whole and is relatively tolerant of dissent.
Not setting specific but if a planet was doing an awfully good job and ensuring its own self destruction and there happened to be a no access barred Combine invasion sized superportal gate into the positive energy plane that anyone can physically traverse without the need of any kind of summoning or gate spell, some enterprising angels might decide that all life is better off under their lawful good 'angeldad knows best for you' stewardship.
If angels poured into the material plane, and basically said 'Nations of this world, we're in charge now, if you are a lawful and good citizen with nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear. Rejoice for lawful good is in charge now.'
What kind of horrible tyrannical hell of good intentions could they impose? Like, for starters, probably severely bad consequences for anyone who detects as evil for any reason, indiscriminate justice style.

Okay so please hear me out. This post isn't an endorsement for brutal tyrants, violence, or repression, and what comes next I understand as idealistic, at best.
I like the idea of having charismatic, long serving national leaders who take charge and use their power to the fullest, as long as it benefits the people. I feel that strong, charismatic heads of state who exhibit initiative and ambition are something that I feel inspired by, and would take pride in if my country had one. My best example (I mean no offence) would be someone like FDR in the US. I feel that many politicians these days strike me as weak, uncharismatic, unreliable and only in it for clout or status. I appreciate bold leadership.
Title! I was thinking today about what'll happen when the events of War of Secrets hit T'au society and if it'll spark some kind of revolution. It got me thinking about Fire Caste, where we see an amazing example of what happens when the caste system goes wonky and there isn't an Ethereal around to keep things together.
Is there a book or anything detailing the 'first contact' or reasoning why they gave the Ethereals overlordship of their (quite diverse) people?
My parents like to use the excuse that the family system is a 'benevolent dictatorship'. I get the benevolent part as they want the best for us, but the dictatorship?
Neither of them are necessarily narcissistic, but this has been rattling in my brain since I first heard of this subreddit.
Would anyone be willing to help me understand?
They are fine and nice when they don't want us to do something. But when they make choices for us, then they call it a 'benevolent dictatorship.'
