A list of puns related to "Battle Royale (novel)"
The first two novels are tied to GRAW, which explores the life of Mitchell and his team, one sequel to the Future Soldier, which gives more character to the newly reformed Hunter team and one prequel to Wildlands, which I didn't read yet.
I mean it doesn't hurt having a game that focuses on narrative while emphasizing the tactical realism and cover-based shooting, tip of the spear ops of the older GR games.

Platform(s):
PC only, it was a download from the indie developer's website
Genre:
Visual novel type game with turn-based combat, and a interactive map system, with movement based on the map (can press North to move up etc.)
Estimated year of release:
Around 2010-2016, I remember playing ut around that time.
Graphics/art style:
The game featured an anime artstyle, with a textbox at the bottom and a map and inventory feature. The majority of the game the player character was moving around with different backgrounds based on the location of the map, you needed to pick options such as Go North, Go South etc. to advance. Whenever you arrive to a new location, a new event occurs (usually its set to a certain character on a certain day of the week) where combat or talking can occur. As the game goes on, certain areas become inaccessible (like in the movie) and the game is set over a few days (easier difficulty was only a few days while harder was longer).
The combat featured an isometric view grid ( just a single line) with a generic player model on each grid to symbolise the characters (like circle head detached to a simple body drawing), there were options to use different weapons you find on the map. The combat also had options to use items and such you find.
Notable characters:
I don't remember any, but all the characters were Japanese students in an anime artstyle. With a body model you can see in game.
Notable gameplay mechanics:
Most notable mechanics were the combat (as mentioned before) as it was turn-based and set on a single line grid, where you needed to either go forward to attack enemies with melee weapons (if you have) or further back to leave combat/avoid damage by enemies having lower accuracy with ranged weapons.
The game was a visual novel style game, so the story actually had multiple endings you could do, one ending was something to do with discovering a secret and you end up waking up in the future as the whole game was just a memory, and the protagonist freaks out. Another is to do with gathering materials to make a boat and escape. When you completed certain endings, you could unlock weapons to use in replays (like a LMG weapon you could find). Overall, the game did have a set story and set events on certain days, it only changed based on the decisions you chose.
At the start of the game, you wake up in a little shelter and have a bag of stuff, it is randomised on what weapon you get per run.

I'm at the part when Kiriyama has just killed Toshinori, the annoying spoiled violinist. The last passage of the chapter is:
"But Toshinori had never been a particularly good student. What's more, he died completely unaware-not that it mattered anymore- that his killer, Kazuo Kiriyama, had some time ago, from the terrace of his mansion- the largest in Shiroiwa and larger than Yoshitoki's- played the violin with far more grace than Yoshitoki ever had."
Yoshitoki definitely never had a mansion (he lived in an orphanage) and there has been no mention of him having played the violin. Did the translator really accidentally write the wrong name twice instead of writing Toshinori?
Itβs almost like video games donβt need Battle Royaleβs to stay relevant.
Hi all,
It is indeed true, the final version of the novel is complete. It contains the improvements to the text that I went over in my previous post, as well as chapter artwork for each era of the game. There are also some super cute little Babylonian lions used to separate subsections, which were previously just a centre-aligned dash.
The novel is now over here on the newer website. I did make a post about it at the time, but it was back during the lull. Suffice to say the old website is still up, though I don't know for how long as the company that owns the domain (and formerly published a couple of my books) is closing down. The novel, along with all my other writing stuff, is now at https://cadellinman.weebly.com/
It's something I had been working on throughout the summer, now that I have had some time to myself. What's next for me? I have another book called Tales from Aquis which needs some love- I'll also be starting my Masters in Visual Communication (art) in a month, which I am rather looking forward to. I will of course be hanging out here on the subreddit with y'all as we enjoy CBRX. I am not doing another novelisation for CBRX, mostly because I think the effort would kill me, but I'm looking forward to participating in the discussion here.
So, until next time, folks! Enjoy the novel!
;)
Edit: Some issues with text allignment for the lions should have been fixed.

Hello! Thanks for checking out my post, I wanted to do a bit of a show of Battle Royale Ultimate Edition volume 1 (and a tiny bit of 2). It's a series I personally LOVE and I feel like it's not super well known outside of manga collectors, especially the Ultimate Editions, and maybe this post will interest some people into giving the series a try.
Q: What is Battle Royale?
A: Battle Royale is an adaptation of Koushun Takami's novel of the same name which was published in April 1999 (and later published in English by VIZ Media). The novel was adapted into a live-action film the following year and became one of Japan's highest grossing films, though it was condemned by the National Diet.
The series was published in English by Tokyopop from May 13, 2003 to April 11, 2006. The Tokyopop version was extensively rewritten by Keith Giffen which eventually led to contradictions and plot holes in the later volumes. Tokyopop rereleased the series in 5 omnibus volumes under the name Battle Royale: Ultimate Edition from October 16, 2007 to February 10, 2009. It was also published in Brazilian Portuguese by Conrad from November 2006 to November 2011 and in Polish by Waneko since March 2012 to March 4, 2015. (MAL)
Q: What are the Ultimate Editions?
A: Answered a little above, these Ultimate Editions are the omnibus versions of the story, published in these absolutely massive books, it covers the event of the 15 single volumes in 5 giga books.
Q: Is there any advantage to the Ultimate Editions? Is it worth picking these up?
A: That's what I'm hoping to discuss below.
In my opinion, the Battle Royale Ultimate Editions are some of the flashiest collector items. The have bright red spines, and are absolutely massive. For a sense of the scale, I attached an album of photos comparing the Ultimate Edition 1 to various volumes of manga.
For dimensions, the table below outlines some details. It also compares to a standard volume of Shonen Jump, such as One Piece, and Vagabond VIZBIG 1:
Length [mm] | Width [mm] | Height [mm] | Weight [g] | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Battle Royale Ult. 1 | 155 | 53 | 231 | 948 |
One Piece Vol. 1 | 125 | 18 | 190 | 232 |
Vagabond VIZBIG 1 | 142 | 45 | 218 | 1208 |
Just to give an idea of how big these books are, they are bigger than VIZBIGs. These books are insane. One thing someone else pointed out to me that I'll comment on right now, these books are L
... keep reading on reddit β‘At last. Here we are. The arc that solidified my decision to start reading the novels. The arc that many said was handled so poorly, that they lost faith in the rest of season 3. The arc that so many have said was going to be hard to follow, and even harder to adapt. The arc with so many new and recurring characters, that it is extremely hard to keep track of all of them, especially when all their story lines intersect like a labyrinth. Let's see if reading the novel will untangle this massive knot that is the Battle Royale arc.
Volume | Arc | Page count | Adapted episodes |
---|---|---|---|
15 | Battle Royale | 224 | S03 E04-E06 |
The first thing I noticed when I opened this novel was how many parts each chapter was divided up in. Until now it had always hovered around 5-8 per chapter, but with this one each chapter had way over 10 parts each, except for the last chapter. And with each part, the point of view jumped from one character to another, and it felt extremely fast and at times a little confusing. It did get a lot better towards the end, where the points of view were reduced to only two or three, which made it far easier to follow and didn't give you mental whiplash as you were reading through it.
As for the story itself, I can understand why people have said that this one was going to be hard to adapt, because there's just so much stuff happening all the time, at least in the beginning. And there's so much supplementary information in the novel that is needed to keep track, that it would become either awkward to have the characters on-screen explain it all, or confusing to leave it out entirely.
So, just to summarize the Battle Royale, as simply as I can manage: Five underworld groups called GROUP, ITEM, SCHOOL, BLOCK and MEMBER are all up against each other on this one particular day, because BLOCK and SCHOOL have decided to cause some mayhem (independently of each other), and the other three are tasked to deal with them from the higher ups. MEMBER is very quickly destroyed, about as fast as they were introduced, so they were completely useless. BLOCK is taken out by GROUP, and soon after, ITEM is taken out by SCHOOL. All that's left is GROUP and the remaining SCHOOL members, and both the Level 5's in each group starts duking it out in the street, with GROUP coming out as the victor. As a result, one Level 5 is punched into tenderized meat, and another one loses her left arm and eye. Quite an eventful day. Keeping track of all t

Hey there folks, Itβs time for the 81st chapter of the ongoing Civilization Battle Royale novel! This week we are checking in on Agent Ishtar, who is observing Rio de Janeiro at this exact moment. I realised that it is a probably a bad idea to write these while hungry- but stay tuned for some local Brazilian cuisine and the unstoppable approach of the Carnival.
Sorry it's an hour late; I was held up at work this evening.
As always, the novel is available for free at the site:
https://cadellin.net/books/civilization-battle-royale/
Enjoy the new chapter!
Hey folks, just a quick public service announcement. I've decided to shift the novel over to Fridays from here on out.
This is simply because now that I work at the university, my schedule is a little different, and Thursday is now my busy day while Friday is super chill. Back when I taught at the college it was the other way around. This should hopefully be the final slot change for the novel, as we are approaching the end of our story.
Till next time!
Hi there folks, slightly early today on account of me heading out this evening during the normal launch window. Chapter 2 of the novel, for your reading pleasure. Cadellin.net now hosts up-to-date PDFs and eBook formats- you can read the whole book in one place over here:
http://cadellin.net/books/civilization-battle-royale/
Audio version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzAhpOGNCRk&feature=youtu.be
And of course, Cadellin.net also hosts a PDF with just today's chapter, for those who want to dive straight into the action.
Note that Britain's clocks go back an hour on October 30th, so the next release will be at 18:00 GMT rather than BST.
Enjoy!
Welcome back to the new Thursday slot!
This week, we turn our gaze to Oceania, where things are starting to heat up. Australia and the Kimberley are becoming increasingly aggressive, and Indonesia is in turmoil. Can Gajah Mada stem the tide?
As always, the novel is up for free on the site below; new chapters releasing every Thursday by 18:00 British time. Till next time, enjoy the new chapter!

No alliances between kaiju. The battlefield is divided into 5 areas. A desert, a biome similair to skull island, the city of hong kong, hollow earth and the sea. Kong gets his battle axe. N there is unlimited air space. All kaiju are not permitted to run away and they all spawn with 1 hour to get wherever they want. Male n femuto function as a pair. List of kaiju consists of all of them that we have seen so far including graphic novels n movies so far. Godzilla is able to use the nuclear pulse which he did in aftershock. List all kaiju starting from the ones who die first n work your way up. Who survives?
Welcome back folks, for the 76th chapter of the novel! This week we are checking in on Pedro of Brazil; he has a few plans that are just being set into motion...
I'm working late tonight, but I still have the single chapter PDF version up for today's chapter. As always, that's available for free at the site:

Enjoy the new chapter!
Welcome back to the new Thursday slot!
The mighty Eva Peron has fallen, becoming a legend beneath the ice. As the world continues to turn, she watches the last of her people carving out what living they can in the harsh terrain of the Andes.
A bit of an unusual format this week as I am away from my usual workstation- the big collected documents will be updated next week. For now you can enjoy this installment in the usual single-chapter pdf format. As always, the novel is up for free on the site below; new chapters releasing every Thursday by 18:00 British time. Till next time, enjoy the new chapter!

Welcome back folks, for the 74th chapter of the novel! It's time to hear from Em and Semiramis- what new wonders are they seeing on their mission?
This chapter corresponds with part 57 if memory serves, here is a map of the world as it was at that point: http://civbattleroyale.tv/storage/cache/images/018/790/02,huge.1514388219.jpg
