A list of puns related to "BRAT diet"
22 M 150 weight 6'0, I had pretty bad diarrhea for like 3-4 days, I then switched to the BRAT diet, yesterday morning eating a plain bagel with nothing on it, a banana, and a gatorade. Didn't eat lunch that day and ate rice, a banana, and saltine crackers for dinner. The next day in the morning I ate a banana and white bread, for lunch I ate some more bread and saltine crackers, and for dinner I will be eating a banana, rice, and saltine crackers again. I read online after 48 hours you should begin to gradually go back to old diet, my question is how slow should I go back to it? I usually would drink 1-2 coffees a day but haven't drank one in like 2 days. I think my poop was getting better the day before I started the BRAT diet, before it was pellet shaped, and I would poop, clean myself up, wash hands, and go to take a shower (I always shower after pooping) and then I would suddenly get the urge to poop again even though I tried so hard to before, essentially the poop would come in waves.
Hello!
Just got diagnosed last night with c diff. I feel like maybe I've caught it early? I was having symptoms for just right under a week and started vanco at the one week mark. I had a few bad days, but I never got a fever or blood in the stool. Even my stools had days where they were more firm and I only had watery stools for like half a day. I also had days where I just needed to use the restroom once. I did take a probiotic (albeit, a non-specific one) throughout the course of the rounds of antibiotics that caused the c diff, so maybe that helped it not be soooo bad?
Anyways, lots of good things on this group and I appreciate everyone sharing their stories and advice. I am taking Florastor and a new multi-strain probiotic (which I started a few days before my diagnosis).
My question is, how long before you moved from BRAT to FODMAP? I've been doing BRAT pretty much on an off for the past week and did it exclusively yesterday, but I just feel like I am not getting enough. Since I just started treatment, you think it's ok to start FODMAP or should I wait until everything is firmed up more? I'm assuming it's more of like a test scenario to see how you react, but wanted to get people's thoughts.
Thanks in advance!
BRAT: Bananas, Rice, Apple sauce, Toast... to SOLVE diarrhea π€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈ
What a mess.
But devouring all these miscreant kids in my neighbourhood has only made my upset stomach worse.
As title says.
I'd love to find options that are bland, easy and gentle on the stomach. The BRAT(bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) diet is generally recommended for upset tummies but that's not keto friendly. Does anyone have any suggestions for something similar?
I'm on a daily antibiotic that's been wreaking havoc on my stomach. I've had zero appetite and it's been a real struggle. I thought veggies would work but they absolutely tore my stomach to shreds. Bone broth has been my fallback but I'd love to find something to keep on hand going forward.
Thanks!
She's supposed to be using the BRAT diet to help her digestive system. She can't even do that for a week to try and fix her issues. Eating other foods defeats the point of BRAT. Fucking hell.
Since my gut has started becoming symptomatic, I just crave mild foods usually recommended for stomach flu so much more. My symptoms so far aren't debilitating (alternating constipation/diarrhea, sometimes low grade nausea/headache after eating), but it's been draining some of the joy out of eating lately (although my appetite is still ok). I'm not sure if this is my system telling me something about what it can process well right now, if it's just carb cravings related to my PCOS. Anyone else experience this?
I'd say it was three weeks ago when I first had diarrhea and I made the mistake of taking Immodium, then I took Senna (just one dose) because the pain in my abdomen was so bad I freaked out. I was then on the BRAT diet for five days. I thought I was in the clear, then it flared up again and went back on the BRAT diet for four more days. By then I wasn't pooping and the gas and bloating had settled down. I then began introducing fiber back into my diet (my god I was so hungry).
Things were great for about four days and then I started having the awful gas pains and urges to go to the bathroom. The first few bowel movements were weird; kind of like constipation but they were just loose and sticky. Then today it got more frequent and loose. I went probably three times today and each time were incredibly painful.
I don't know what's going on. Should I just keep living my life and hope it settles down or should I make an appointment with my doctor and get tested for food allergies?
I take the Nature Made Probiotic (30 billion CFU, 12 strains) and have been happy with that for a long time (2+ years). Just really lost and worried.
saw a post on fb about brat diet and this is for making your poop bulkier when you have bouts of diarrhea.
banana, rice, applesauce and toast.
shoild anyone have any experience with this diet, let me know!
I found that by switching to the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce and toast), I can prevent diarrhea. Seems like if IBS-D is a gut bacteria problem, then ANY foods I eat should trigger diarrhea. Yet when I'm on the BRAT diet, I do not have diarrhea.
I'm curious to find out if anyone else with IBS-D has tried the BRAT diet and if so, did it work for you?
No solid food in 8 days. What foods to try first? Stomache still very sensitive. Likely covid, waiting on result. Nightshade intolerant also so no potatoes.
Hello! I had been experiencing diarrhea, cramping and extreme gas (like had to run to the toilet each time) for about a month. Got tests done at the doc, didnβt see anything wrong. Iβm finally trying to the BRAT diet and it is helping. Now I only poop once a day and no more crazy farts. Does this seem like IBS-D if itβs responding to the diet? Thanks!
I have never been able to eat a banana on an empty stomach, let alone an upset one. Bananas feel heavy when you eat them and they're loaded with sugar. Why is this one of the four recommended foods to recover from an upset stomach?
Iβve been dealing with nausea on and off as well as fatigue and lack of appetite for about 36 hours now. I donβt have any part of the BRAT diet accessible to me, including bread. Anyone know of anything else I can eat that wonβt upset my stomach even more?
Bonus question I guess: should I get tested for COVID?
BRAT diet: bananas, rice, applesauce, toast
I've also been able to eat chicken soup. Thanks.
Without getting into the icky details, I've got an upset tummy right now. The BRAT diet is obviously not an option, so anybody have a recommendation of something to eat that will help keep things down without upsetting the other end of things?
I havenβt thrown up since well over 24 hours (most miserable day ever)! Can I start eating ham again and kool aid?
So, my partner has the flu, we think. She's having trouble keeping food down.
I'm worried I might get it too. Dropping out of Keto right now seems like a bad idea because it normally upsets our stomachs when we do.
The BRAT diet known to parents is Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast. It's good for folks who are throwing up.
Is there a Keto equivalent to that?
I'm worried I might get this next, and I'd like to stock up beforehand.
Best I can think at the moment is to make some kind of thin broth with heavy cream and a bit of almond flour.
You know pre-surgery when you had an upset stomach and you used the old wisdom of the BRAT (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) diet? Well, since most of those foods aren't recommended for WLS patients what is your new BRAT diet post surgery?
Edit: I am 4.5 months post surgery, so I'm not restricted to certain consistencies.
My husband has been feeling nauseous the last couple of days. He's starving, but most things will make him throw up right now. Normally, doctors would recommend a BRAT diet during this time; bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. They're bland foods that are easier to keep down. They're also all not keto. I got him these foods so he can eat, but what bland keto foods would you guys suggest in the future?
A week ago I ran out of hay AND pellets and for Amazon Prime membership reasons I couldn't order more online like I usually do. So I went to PetCo and bought a small bag of hay just to tide us over and a regular bag of the plainest pellets I could find, which have freeze-dried goodies like carrots in them. Apparently that's where I made my mistake because Buddy (my piggy) has not eaten hay in DAYS and keeps waiting for me to give him pellets. I know how important hay is to his diet so I'm hesitant to keep giving him the pellets at expense of the hay...does anyone have a similar experience, and can maybe help me hack this? Thanks Reddit. :)
I've been throwing up a bunch so the doctor put me on the BRAT diet- bananas, rice, applesauce, toast. She crossed off toast because I have celiac disease, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a GF alternative? I was thinking Cheerios, since I have some in my apartment. Or maybe potatoes?
Age: 29; Sex: female; Height: 5'6; Weight: 270; Race: white;
location: Arizona/stomach; medical issues: none
Duration of complaint: I first became sick on Sunday morning. I basically vomited five times that day, had a few accidents on the other side, and then went to Urgent Care. There, they gave me two bags of saline through an IV and some Zofram. I was told to start the BRAT diet about eight hours after I left the clinic - until then, only Gatorade and popsicles. The BRAT diet was supposed to occur for five days.
Two days ago I tried three bites of a homemade burger and felt nauseous, so went back to crackers and popsicles. Yesterday my MIL was having an awful day and asked for Mexican food, so I had a bite or two of a cheese crisp and some chips and mild salsa for her, and this morning it's like a dragon is in my esophagus. Back to popsicles. Should I just give up on normal food and stay on the BRAT diet for the next 2-3 days, as suggested? Any advice for transitioning back to normal food when my stomach hates me?
Thank you!
Since 2 AM Saturday, I've had serious tummy troubles. Like "everything I put in my mouth takes the express-train out the other end" troubles.
Immodium appears to have stopped that. I've kept a quart of applesauce and two bowls of dry Rice Chex down.
BUT, I'm ready to eat the house down.
Last night I tried a baked potato-- bad idea.
I might also have gall bladder problems since I have NO idea what triggered the initial GI distress.
What's the next step?
I have Diverticulitis, which is an infection in the colon. These tiny little pockets form and get blocked and bacteria start to grow and fester.
I'm on antibiotics, but my dr wants me to rest my colon. I don't really want to just eat bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast for 4 days.
Is there anything with nutritional value I can eat to have the same effect?
I've been suffering from IBS since I the first day of high school, now I'm eighteen and have learned how to cope with my problem. But I really want a solution because it takes a huge amount of willpower for me to get out of my house and attend classes sometimes I will get all ready head outside and as I have my helmet on and am on top of the motorcycle the anxiety takes the better out of me and I just go back inside feeling very upset and depressed. Since then my life became a toruture (some of my friends that don't know about the problem) stopped talking to me because I was always canceling things and going home earlier, I don't go on vacations if I know the flight will be longer than an hour and I don't even want to talk about my love life because IBS makes it impossible.
TL;DR: Sorry for the ramble is brat diet a good one or do you know some other with better results?
I called and talked to the nurse at my Dr's office because I've been having mild diarrhea (sry tmi) on and off for the past few days and she told me to go on a BRAT diet which is nothing but bananas, rice, applesause, and toast. I hung up the phone with NO intentions of following through with that. I'd rather keep crapping my pants. I figure as long as I keep enough fluids in me it's not that big of a deal after all.
Sorry for all the TMI I just wanted to get that out because I'm deff not telling S.O. About the symptoms or the diet nonsense.
Edit: S.O and I just got back from the grocery store with my brat goodies. Thanks for all the information and advice. Also, bananas and applesause are just yummy and I don't know why I didn't have any in my kitchen already.
I have some form of flu that is keeping me sick. Nausea meds won't touch it and I quickly become dehydrated. Went in to get it looked at and they rehydrated me and sent me on my way.
So now I'm on bed rest and the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce and toast) until it passes. I'm about 26 weeks hopefully this won't stay long.
After suffering some (ahem) intestinal distress recently, I was wondering, what are everyone's go-to keto foods for upset stomachs? Generally the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) is recommended, but both that and chicken-noodle soup are not options if you're trying to stay in ketosis. So what do you eat the day after you've over-indulged in adult beverages and/or Mexican food?
This might be a stupid question, and I apologize if it's been asked before, but I've been wondering what to do if I get sick on keto. I'm not talking about the keto flu, but an actual, sick to my stomach, flu. Before keto, if I got sick i would follow the BRAT (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) diet. Are there alternatives for keto?
Hello! I had been experiencing diarrhea, cramping and extreme gas (like had to run to the toilet each time) for about a month. Got tests done at the doc, didnβt see anything wrong. Iβm finally trying to the BRAT diet and it is helping. Does this seem like IBS/lactose intolerance if itβs responding to the diet? Thanks!
