Astroneer Puns

I have asked this question on multiple different gaming subreddits, none of them answered. Decided it would be smart to ask this question on a subreddit dedicated to the game.

I have an xbox one with a good amount of storage left, I am a big fan of games that include space exploration and such, so I was immediately interested in Astroneer.

Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of buying the game? and if it's generally worth buying?

After around seven hours of this game I've never felt so sick in my life. The controls are extremely janky. I love the idea of alternative UI but the implementation is really careless with a lot of screen elements being so tiny they're impossible to read in docked or handheld.

Moving items around and controlling the landscape editing tool is really quite difficult with the cursor sometimes jumping from spot to spot with lag or causing your camera to pitch wildly back and forth. Carrying larger items (which will not go in your pack) is particularly frustrating as you're forced either into a snails pace or to throw the item out in front of you then turn back around to pick it up and throw again.

If you walk ever so slightly too far before putting down a new tether, you'll need to use the right stick to pick it up and manually place it just right to get it to link to the chain again with no real visual indication of when you're going to hit the outer limits of air supply apart from the chain breaking and giving you a split second to place another. If you miss your chance, you'll be turning back around to manually reposition again. When the distance between them is so short, you'll be doing this a lot. Worse still is if you place one accidentally and want to put it back in your pack where it does not stack with the others and takes up a slot unnecessarily.

Linking base sections together is infuriating with the cables having arbitrary max lengths meaning that all of your base sections are placed super close together. All of the sections look identical so they're also difficult to tell apart. On my first session I made a research chamber which started glitching out which I was only able to fix after consulting Reddit which told me to reload the game for it to work. That was a success, but why is a bug that's existed since 2019 still present in this port? After it was finished, interacting with it was very finnicky because the focus defaulted to the cables on the side over and over again.

But by far the most nausea inducing part of the game is underground. Whilst using the landscaping tool and pointing too far up or too far down, the flashlight does not follow you and the natural light is way too dim to be able to work without it. If you inevitably fall down a crevace you might as well kiss your gear goodbye because there's no way you'll be able to build a way back up before your air supply runs out. Please help me decide if I should get Astroneer - there's a nice promo on steam at the moment.

I like playing games where I can explore, build, discover etc. Tech tree that can be advanced is a definite plus.

For example I like minecraft and valheim but I feel they could use more story / quests / goals. I mean I can set ingame goals for myself but I prefer games that have at least some of them included as it helps to decide on a direction.

I like games like factorio but feel that they're tad too complicated.

Good multiplayer would be a definite plus (preferably without pvp or with some options to limit trolling).

Just wanted to know

I've always been into open-world survival craft games. Stuff like no man's sky. And I've had my eye in astroneer for quite a while.

My main concern is if it's fun on your own, playing single player. Most of the gameplay I've seen has been of people playing with friends and I unfortunately do not have a single one to play with. I don't want to get this game if there's a ton of emphasis on having multiple players.

So from what I understand from just gameplay, Astroneer has more story now. And the story will continue to be added. Here's what I think the full story so far is.

The ESS Triton, a Xenobiology research ship is on it's way to "Luubos Prime"(most likely a planet they are heading to to further research the galastropods) when they are attacked by a mysterious thing that the logs do not specify. Dr. Yoh, one of the crewmembers releases the snails and the beginning cutscene ends. The ship was most likely destroyed and could be the cause of all the debris on the planets. Dr. Yoh was able to jettison the nursery though.

Some time later, you come along with the mission to expand EXO dynamics by going to that solar system. You complete missions, discover mysterious gateways, and then you find the nursery. you collect all the snails and keep them safe. Then you eventually discover all the cores and place the items on the satellite. A rift appears behind you and you walk in. The ship that you own can't find you, so it creates a copy of you using your DNA which supports why EXO wants your DNA before you leave.

Feel free to correct anything I got wrong or just comment what you think.

I was playing with my friends on PlayStation astroneer and I awakened sylva but my friend got the suit and palette and I didn't even though I awakened it I tried everything to get the suit but it doesn't work

Will the switch have limitations on performance or will it be the same overall?

I bought astroneer today i was looking around in the reddit and saw alot of posts about power or managment. Is astroneer like satisfactory? Will i need to craft items into more items and make a huge power supply, etc? Because thats not what i am looking for!!

I just picked up Astroneer on my Xbox and I love it, but my framerate seems to be around 20 fps. Is there some sort of frame cap that I am not aware of? The framerate appears to stay the same even when I switch high quality mode on and off. Is there any way I can improve my fps? Thanks!

Does anyone know where the name Astroneer comes from? My working theory is that it is a compound of Astronaut and Engineer, but it could also be something like Pioneer.

So i awakened a planet in astroneer and i got the atrox suit, even though the planet i awoken was Sylva, and then i awoken the planet Vesania and i got the Decolo awards, what do i do about this?

So a few days ago my daughter wanted me to play this with her, and for a buck I couldn't argue no. I dunno what about this game is so addictive, but the little factories and the auto-arms are really satisfying. Imagine my excitement 2 days later as well when I realised you can 'smooth' with ctrl and raise the ground with alt. Any other buttons I should know about?

I've seen this game get a lot of praise, and I was wondering if I should buy it, even though I didn't enjoy my time as much on ASTRONEER and No Man's Sky(I played for about an hour or two on each).

Is this game any different? Will it give me a better experience?

P.S I played No Man's Sky earlier this year, so I found the game in a good state, unlike its launch.

Edit: Well it looks like Outer Wilds its not comparable with those two. You live, you learn.
