Hi, I got a proper diagnosis of dyscalculia in my final year of uni but wondering if I should still got a needs assessment?
Iβve been trying to find out what the βassistive technologiesβ besides a calculator might be available for adults specifically but Iβll I find online is for childrenβ¦
Wondering if anyone had a needs assessment (or not) and uses the so called assistive technologies? If so what exactly are they?
Iβm a UK (England) student but maybe other places have similar processes? As Iβm a student all of this is being funded for me so Iβd rather not pass on an opportunity to get resources that can help me with maths. The job Iβm going to requires maths sadly so I will need support in the future.
Basically the title. I've been looking for some resources that might go over these things and it's surprisingly hard to find. I didn't know if I'm not searching for the proper terms or what...

Hi all,
Hopefully the last time posting, but we are so close to having enough responses for rigour, we just need to get over the line!
I am a practising Occupational Therapist and PhD researcher in assistive technology.
As you all know, there are some issues with assistive tech, and all too often, that has a significant impact on the users. With this, I am trying to see if we can use User-Centred Design, Design Thinking, and Human-Centred Design to improve assistive technologies.
To do this, I am speaking to Users of Assistive technologies, OTβs and Allied Health, and Designers and rehabilitation engineers. If you fall into any of these groups, your time is greatly appreciated!
For OTβs and Allied Health, please complete the survey below (it takes 10-15 minutes)

If you are or know an assistive technology user, it would be amazing to speak to you about your experiences with the scripting and use of assistive technologies. If this sounds like something you may be interested in, please flic an email to hphillips@swin.edu.au, this can be done online or in-person (if you live in Victoria, Australia)
For designers and rehabilitation engineers, please complete the separate survey below (it takes 10-15 minutes)

I for the most part am not too bothered by my speech issues, but sometimes on particularly difficult days it gets really frustrating. I went out for coffee a few days ago and blocked like crazy trying to say my order, I felt kinda embarrassed but mostly I was anxious that I was taking up a lot of time. Then I thought of how much easier that entire interaction couldβve been if I didnβt have to speak at all, and I remembered that text to speech exists! So I downloaded a free app and ordered my coffee the next day using the app.
I canβt see myself using the app very much, but I am glad that I have it! There have been a few times in my life where I havenβt been able to speak when I needed to (not talking about ordering coffee lol), now this is an option.
I am a new grad school based cota and I am wondering how I can advance in my career in the future as I gain more experience. I wonder if any cotas have gotten a assistive technology certification and how it has helped them advance in their career .
Hi there,
I was just wondering if anyone has found any assistive devices or technology that help them be successful in the workplace.
Thanks!
what technologies are used on a daily basis? for example; visual fire alarms, TTY, etc? iβm writing a paper for english and i am not deaf myself so I am interested in what daily technologies are used :)
The new version 94.0.2 corrects an error that can occur in the Store version in conjunction with assistive technologies such as the NVDA screen reader.
Hello everyone!
My name is Marius Mathisen and am the stepfather of a girl diagnosed as βmoderately mentally impairedβ. I have previously also worked as a so called fullstack developer and moved over to IT-management the last few years. When I first met my now wife and my stepdaughter, Angelina, 11 years ago I introduced Angelina to my first-generation iPad and we quickly learned that iPad and itΒ΄s touch surface was a good tool for Angelina to not only communicate better with us but also showcase her understanding of different concepts that we were not aware of that she understood.
Based on this I decided to develop my own app/game for Angelina to fit her cognitive needs at that point. The game was called βAngelinas verdenβ, which translates to βAngelinas Worldβ. The game was downloaded over 10 000 times from both Apple AppStore and Google Play store. It was also featured in different Norwegian media outlets, but also international media as IGN.com: https://www.ign.com/articles/2012/11/14/dad-makes-game-to-help-child
I used that media coverage to raise funds through GoFundMe that I later used to buy iPads that I donated to Angelinas school, that is a school for mentally impaired children. This kickstarted the use of technology and iPads at the school and benefited a lot of the students there.
In the years following we tried to use different kinds of application with Angelina to both assist her in her needs and for ourselves to help manage our day-to-day life as parents of someone with mentally impairment, but time and time again we felt that the quality of many of the apps was below what we would expect from professional software providers. The applications that we tried had low quality UI and not good thought-out user experience, they were lacking in the use modern technology as cloud synchronization, AI/ML, an interconnect ability with other applications etc. We ended up with a lot of fragmented apps that only partially covered Angelinas need and our needs as parents.
After working many years in the IT-business I saved up money over time and September 1th this year I quit my job and started a company called Pletly to try to address all of the problems I have experienced in my role as stepfather and someone with great insight into technology. I have put in a substantial amount of my own money and I am all in on the mission to help mentally impaired, their rela

Hi all,
I am a practicing Occupational Therapist and researcher. There is a huge issue in my industry with the abandonment of assistive technologies by the users. Much of the research currently points to issues with design, and as a result, I would love the design community to weigh in on this issue. While you may not currently work in health design, your opinion matters to push that design such as design thinking, user centred design and human centred design can be implemented.
To get this done, I need to prove there is a need to the industry and government. If you have 10-15 minutes, please help with the below survey (link or QR code).
