A list of puns related to "Alcohol consumption in Russia"
Yesterday saw 2 interesting articles in the intl news: 40+% reduction in alcohol use in Russia, reported by WHO, instigated by former president Medvedev--no more drinking the streets, higher tax and sales are regulated much more. Vodka no longer runs free down the street :). Just saw that 30% of Great Britain's youth don't drink at all, and that alcohol use is way down in GB! These are good signs and it both cases, it said a greater trend towards 'healthy lifestyles' is the cause. This is encourageing too, maybe good for the environment--who would have thought there's a connection!?

Thank you everyone for writing in β this has been a very rich discussion! Unfortunately, I am not able to reply to every question, but if you are interested in learning more about my work please follow me on Twitter @dhjalcohol or you can find a lot of our work on youth and alcohol marketing archived at www.camy.org. You can also find a project I am currently working on at www.cityhealth.org, where we are trying to encourage the largest cities in the US to adopt policies that are protective of health, including ones around safer alcohol sales.
I am Dr. David Jernigan, professor of health law, policy, and management at Boston Universityβs School of Public Health. The majority of my work focuses on an action-research approach to the issue of alcohol advertising, marketing, and promotion and its influence on young people. My work has helped to better advertising regulations and a provide a clearer understanding of the evolving structure of the alcohol industry. Throughout my professional career I have been very active in translating research findings into policy and practice. I testify regularly at city, state, and national levels around alcohol advertising and youth, alcohol availability, and taxation, and train advocates around the world on the subject matter. Ask me anything about:

Just read this in a recent article, the figures are provided by the World health organization. Is it really true? Because that sound way too incredible to reduce the consumption of a problem that plagued Russia for decades if not centuries so much in such a short time.
Here it is, take it or leave it (male, 30s).
*4 days off a week. Period.
*For the 3 days on (doesn't matter which days): No more than 4 actual 'units'/drinks per day (ideally 3,3,4 but that's level 2). For example: 3 ounces of 80ish proof whiskey which is 2 units + 2 White Claws.
Miscellaneous rules:
>>Once a month, one week, one of your days you get two extra tokens/units, so 6. Enjoy.
>>3 weeks a year you get a "week switch". Vacation weeks etc. This means you can borrow tokens from a week immediately before or following. For example if you want 5 days "on" go for it but the following or preceding week you only get 1 day to consume. Note: asuming you go over 4 units in one day, this counts as your 1/month splurge of 6.
>>3X a year you get a real party in, 2 more tokens, so 8 drinks allowed in 1 hang session. Never more than this. Nothing good comes beyond 8, ever. Note: you don't get a "6 drink" night on top of this for the month. This supercedes that.
>>>best part of this system, the days off! Different strategies. Week starts Monday... Do you do my personal favorite, drink Wed Fri Sun? Or take off all week then Thur/Fri/Sat.
Decisions decisions. This is my contribution to alcohol society. If you're in on this game, system, let me know. It's fun. Alcohol is fun, in "moderation". Enjoy it but control it. Mostly.
Have been seeing opinions of people that say Alcohol is or isnt haram but am not too sure, especially when it comes to the opinions of different madhabs. Anyone can answer in detail?
12/17/21 Update: Aside from one day where I gave in, I'm on day 17 no alcohol or coffee. I'm consistently sleeping 7-8 solid hours per night. Thanks for the info, r/sleep!
This December I'm going 0 coffee, 0 booze in hopes I can get better sleep. I don't crave coffee anymore, but having trouble ditching the vodka at night to help me sleep.
I'm looking for advice here. Should I continue to try for no coffee, no alcohol or give up and enjoy my drink?
I ate a mix between plant heavy standard American diet, vegetarian, and vegan off and on for most of my life. I've been in pain since I was 11 years old, with cramps, joint pain, migraines, fibromyalgia, arthritis, restless leg syndrome, nightmares, night sweats, and of course hot flashes now because age sucks. For a while, the only thing that kept my muscles relaxed so I could fall asleep was some kind of alcohol like wine, a shot of vodka, or rum. I depended on this nightly for 20 years. If I skipped the drink for a couple of days, my muscles would tense up to the point where I could not move my neck, hips, etc. I've tried to quit in the past, but was unable to do so.
I've been on the carnivore diet since 04/01/2019. Much of the pain, cramps, and tension does not happen anymore, and people have told me that coffee and alcohol make hot flashes worse at night. I have noticed a reduction in night sweats and hot flashes since ditching the coffee, and I believe this time I'm healed enough and brave enough to say goodbye to booze.
I tried Melatonin on the advice from a friend, and I wish I had not. 1 pill a night for 4 nights, and today I'm sick. Really bad Asthma, aches, fever, gut issues, nausea, dizziness... I'm lucky I had asthma medicine nearby or I would have gone to the doctor. I read (in the middle of the night while I couldn't breath) that Melatonin can cause muscle spasms in the bronchial tubes.
My room is already a sleep cave, with no light, perfect white noise, the most restful bed, sheets, and pillow, no glowing clocks...literally everything about my bedroom is perfect.
I was just visiting /r/ireland and saw a discussion about new minimum prices on alcohol and whether it'll make people start using drugs. Made me wonder about Prohibition in the US.
Throughout the pandemic, I have (anecdotally of course) seen a rise in colleagues significantly increasing their drinking to deal with the ongoing challenges we all face through the pandemic. From colleagues showing up to daily activities buzzed to a self observation that my own consumption has increased; have you observed something similar? To this end, does this realization concern you/what are your experiences with regards to this topic?
