A list of puns related to "Afrikaans Wikipedia"
Hello, the volunteers of Wikiproject Cannabis are holding a month-long collaboration in April to expand Wikipedia's coverage of cannabis issues. I am asking for translation support as an individual Redditor, and I don't represent Wikipedia, but the WikiProject is made of Wikipedia volunteers.
I'm looking for any volunteer person/people who are proficient in English and Afrikaans or Zulu to proofread a short machine-translated article and correct the language. All formatting, "coding", etc is already done, all I ask is proofreading. You do not need a Wikipedia account or any experience in editing Wikipedia. If you're interested, you can find the Draft article here:

Please feel free to make edits on your own, or to DM me for advice. Thanks for your time!

This report's data was pulled from this Wikipedia site: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP), which references the following April 2021 IMF data: https://www.imf.org/en/Publications/WEO/weo-database/2021/April/weo-report
Methodology:
I only considered native speakers. I didn't consider L2 speakers at all. If greater than 50% of a country's native population were L1 speakers of a single language, then I assigned that country's entire GDP to that language. If no single language achieved that figure, then that country's entire GDP was assigned to the "Other" category.
I grouped all dialects together, even though some are mutually unintelligible. This is especially notable for Chinese and Arabic. However it's worth noting that even if I broke off Hong Kong and assigned it to Cantonese, it would still not be big enough to make the top 20 list. The same goes for Catalonia, and ex-Yugoslavia, and all the other Chinese/Arabic dialects.
In previous editions of this report, I made exceptions for India. In the last report, I assigned 42% of India's GDP PPP to Hindi, and 8% of India's GDP PPP to Bengali. I decided to remove those exceptions this year, so India's substantial 7.2% of world GDP PPP is now allocated to the "Other" category.
I made an exception for Indonesian and Malaysian. Both of those languages are way below the 50% native speaker mark to claim their countries GDP. But they cover large economies, and they've achieved 95%+ literacy rates, and they do function as lingua francas within their respective countries, so I decided to combine them as a macro language. I think this is reasonable considering that there are many Creoles included in English and French's numbers, as well as some only partially mutually intelligible dial
... keep reading on reddit β‘Okay. Iβve been thinking about this and I donβt get it. WHY is Rekiβs name given an βRβ sound in English but Langaβs name is an βLβ sound?? Because in Japanese there is no distinction between those sounds. Is Langa supposed to be likeβ¦ a Canadian name or something? His name is written with katakana instead of kanji so maybe thatβs itβ Is Langa a βrealβ English name that anyone has ever heard before, because I sure havenβt heard of it.
I guess the concept didn't work
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB
Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"
I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual
So check out r/jokes for all types of jokes
r/unclejokes for dirty jokes
r/3amjokes for real weird and alot of OC
r/cleandadjokes If your really sick of seeing not dad jokes in r/dadjokes
Punchline !
Edit: this is not a post about NSFW , This is about jokes, knock knock jokes, blonde jokes, political jokes etc being posted in a dad joke sub
Edit 2: don't touch the thermostat
Do your worst!
How the hell am I suppose to know when itβs raining in Sweden?
Mathematical puns makes me number
Ants donβt even have the concept fathers, let alone a good dad joke. Keep r/ants out of my r/dadjokes.
But no, seriously. I understand rule 7 is great to have intelligent discussion, but sometimes it feels like 1 in 10 posts here is someone getting upset about the jokes on this sub. Let the mods deal with it, they regulate the sub.
They were cooked in Greece.
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.

Now that I listen to albums, I hardly ever leave the house.
Two muffins are in an oven, one muffin looks at the other and says "is it just me, or is it hot in here?"
Then the other muffin says "AHH, TALKING MUFFIN!!!"
Don't you know a good pun is its own reword?
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
If you notice how belter creole has influences from French, English, Portuguese and Spanish colonial languages it makes sense.
Every time you hear βcopayβ itβs from Haitian Creole βcopainβ, French for βfriendβ. βTiresteβ is βtristeβ or βsadβ.
Beltalowda is Belter βleuteβ (pronounced loy-dβta) which is Afrikaans Dutch for people/persons. Itβs also modern German for the same idea.
Belter is a mix of different creoles from a people brought together from several origins for one purpose : mining asteroids. It is a resource colony in the purest form. Would make sense that colonial creole from all origins would become the dominant mishmash language.
It really does, I swear!
And now Iβm cannelloni
Because she wanted to see the task manager.
And boy are my arms legs.

Heard they've been doing some shady business.
but then I remembered it was ground this morning.
Edit: Thank you guys for the awards, they're much nicer than the cardboard sleeve I've been using and reassures me that my jokes aren't stale
Edit 2: I have already been made aware that Men In Black 3 has told a version of this joke before. If the joke is not new to you, please enjoy any of the single origin puns in the comments
They just donβt work!
Theyβre on standbi
BamBOO!
A play on words.
After extensive research, I have found many Duployan systems for different languages. I have no plans to learn most of these (with the possible exception of Greek), simply because I don't know the languages concernedβI speak Latin and French, but not Esperanto or Turkish, for example (Romanian and Afrikaans are a different story).
Turkish: https://archive.org/details/benaroya-turkish-duploye and https://archive.org/details/Stenografi (different systems so far as I can tell)
ben Aroya is a notable person in Bulgarian, Greek, and Turkish history, so it seems fair to link to his Wikipedia page.
Greek: https://archive.org/details/ellenike-stenographia
Esperanto: https://archive.org/details/stenografio-duploye-esperanto
Romanian: https://archive.org/details/sfintescu-margareta-stenografie-fara-profesor
Dutch/Afrikaans/Flemish: https://archive.org/details/luyckx-duploye-kortschrift-nl
There is also a much better scan of Lockett's Duployan for English: https://archive.org/details/lockett-duploye
There are Duployan systems for German, Latin, and Danish in the pipeline (though the Wawa Shorthand is perfectly usable for Latin, as is Brandt's Duployan). There's also a Spanish DuployΓ©βunfortunately, it's an autograph copy, and Ameghino (its creatorβhe's as famous as Ben Aroya, with a wikipedia page and everything) has objectively terrible handwriting. It got published in Argentina, found a fair amount of use, and there's a (properly typeset) copy of it listed on Mercado Libre, but there is no international shipping... :( unless I can get an obliging Argie to take delivery of it, there's no way I can get a PDF. Finally, there's another book on Romanian DuployΓ© (same system as Sfintescu's) but the book hasn't yet been processed (there are the usual marks from xeroxing on a flatbed).
Another one for u/sonofherobrine u/brifoz u/acarlow...
Calcium, nickel, neon
We told her she can lean on us for support. Although, we are going to have to change her driver's license, her height is going down by a foot. I don't want to go too far out on a limb here but it better not be a hack job.
