A list of puns related to "Aeotec"
New (HomeKit/HomeBridge) Guy here... I'm getting off of SmartThings...
One Z-Wave device for which I haven't found a good alternative is an Aeotec Heavy Duty Switch which controls a pump and is triggered by leak sensors.
Anyone have experience with this switch via HomeBridge? Specific recommendations on plugins/configs? My hope is automate the switch on/off based on leak detection from one or more HomeKit-native leak sensors.
Running HomeBridge on a Pi 4, and I have a Zooz 700 Series Z-Wave Plus S2 USB Stick
Thanks for all replies!
Sorry for the newbie question, but can someone tell me why the Samsung branded hub sells for so much more than the Aeotec hub when it's an identical product, correct?
Why the price difference?
Thanks.
Hello,
I have been recently looking into expanding my smart home from just having Alexa turn on the lights to actually do something a bit cooler. For that, I was looking into buying hubs.
However, doing my research on the SmartThings ecosystem (which would be my favorite one to go for, since I own a Samsung phone which has SmartThings built into it, and I like the Galaxy ecosystem), I read that its longevity may not be too great. Furthermore, with the introduction of Matter, I am afraid the hub I would purchase - not a little investment, especially for a student - would get old and useless rather quickly.
Is it now a good time to buy a SmartThings hub? Also, while we're on it, is it compatible with my already owned Wifi stuff? Wifi bulbs and other smart devices? And are zigbee/z-wave alternatives available?
Thank you in advance!
I've had a Aeotec Z-wave controller attached to my HA VM (KVM) forever and never had an issue. Since the latest core-2021.11.1 and zwave js 0.1.46 USB passthrough no works for me. The USB device initially shows up and something exists in /dev/serial/by-id but then just as quickly disappears. When I revert both of these back to core-2021.11.0 and zwave js 0.1.45 I can get the device /w passthrough working again. I've tried reverting one or the other but it has to be both. Has anyone else seen this? I am not sure how to troubleshoot this?
I just got a response from Aeotec Home on Amazon that the 700 series Z-Wave controller will not be in stock for "several months".
In case anyone was hoping it would be in stock soon. I think it has been out of stock since sometime in September if I'm not mistaken. Really wish I purchased it earlier.
I've been trying to get a Pi3b+ to work with a Aeotech 5 stick for days, but I now realize that my linux skills are too non-existing to manage it and any future troubleshooting would be a pain.
So, I'm now looking for the best and most user friendly alternative to control Z-wave from HomeAssistant.
I'm running HomeAssistant as a VM on a VirtualBox and I'll have just a few Z-wave units to begin with so I need to be able to place the Z-wave controller somewhere central in the house (WiFi).
I prefer to keep things as local as possible.
Is Fibaro HC3 the best alternative for this or are there others I should look at?
Not everything is available in my country, just the most known ones.
Thanks guys!
I've used the Samsung SmartThings Button for a couple years and would like to buy a couple more of them. However, it looks like they've sold the hardware side of their business to Aeotec and discontinued the current product. Does anyone know when we can expect Aeotec to start selling their version of the SmartThings Button? It's listed on their website, but when I click the "buy" link, the seller list never appears.
Alternatively, does anyone know if there's anywhere I can still purchase the Samsung version? I can't find any retailers who still have it in stock. EDIT: I'm located in the US.
Thanks!
My closet has a old school pull string to turn the light on and off, well I put a smart bulb in the socket and thought about a way to turn it on and off remotely. I looked up the wireless switch Aeotec Wallmote 7, unfortunately not stocked anywhere. Next thought was Aeotec Motion Sensor, took only a few minutes to register and program it, mounted it above the inside closet door frame. Motion - light on, No Motion - light off. This is just way too simple!!
The hub literally has me looking for smart things to add to it around the house, lol.
Hope someone can tell me.
Will this (link below) work with my Philip hue zigbee hub or do I need to get a aeotec one?
SmartThings Aeotec Zigbee Multipurpose Sensor - Window-Door Sensor for Burglary Alarm Security including Temperature Sensor, Window Sensor with Vibration Detection https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08RG4NVM9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_V2CCNDQJD8VNS1F9R65W
I have been using the Nortek HUSBZB-1 to control my zigbee and zwave devices. I have been having some issues with the Zigbee responsiveness but the ZWave seems to be working fine. I'm upgrading my zigbee controller and figured I might as well upgrade the zwave controller while I was at it.
I thought I was ordering the Aeotec 7 series Z-stick, but when it arrived I realized that I had ordered the Gen5 stick.
Is there any difference in performance or spec between the ZWave radio in the Nortek and the Aeotec G5?
I am looking to fit almost all my house switches with dimmer switches, and they all seem to need Zwave.
Inovelli seem to be the consensus top of the line for dimmer switches (especially where non-neutral wiring is considered), so unless I'm way behind on the times, I plan on plunging in with these guys.
That means I need to add Zwave to my configuration.
So I am just looking for a quick confirmation that the Aoetec usb zwave stick is still top of the line? Seems pretty pricey compared to zigbee sticks, but if I'm going into the zwave hardware, I don't want to mess around.
I plan on going with Zwave2MQTT, because that's how I route all my Zigbee already, and it would be nice to have everything going through MQTT. I'm open for suggestions, though.
Hi all, I'm seeing the Multisensor 7, Switch 7, and Nanomote One, things like that, available overseas but not in the US. It's getting pretty annoying as everything has been out of stock for months. Can anyone recommend alternative high quality motion sensors or is this just a "wait" situation?
Context: I have 100s of insteon devices but am slowly moving over to z-wave instead because now that i'm on HA + Insteon-MQTT, i don't even really have a need for insteon native.
I've been looking for several weeks, and haven't been able to find it anywhere. Amazon has been sold out and the other recommend site Popp.to is offline. Is there no inventory anywhere?
Are there any other zwave Gen 7 plus USB sticks that have been tested to work well with Home Assistant?
The aeotec site says their backup/restore tool works for any 700 series stick. Has anyone tried migrating to aeotec from a non-aeotec stick?
https://help.aeotec.com/support/solutions/articles/6000247479-backup-and-restore-z-stick-7
I'm tempted to get the zooz and get the re-pairing over with so that whenever the aeotec stick is back in stock it's a simple backup and restore.
I currently have a nortek and it doesn't support s2 and of course is fairly outdated. It works but it is definitely noticeable that it's outdated as it struggles to communicate with my innovelli strips whenever I try to use the color wheel. It can only send out specific messages not spinning the wheel or it freezes. I also can't trigger a motion sensor and go open a door without a delay in the network.
I have a few of them in the barn, and mice regularly chew on them. These cables are fairly special, and so far I was unable to find a replacement. Does anyone know of a source?
Iβve tried Aeotecβs links for Amazon and Popp/to for a couple of months but no luck. Iβve also tried ebay with no results. Are there any other reputable sites where I can search/purchase from for the US version?
Has anyone been able to find the US frequency Aeotec z-wave 7 stick? Iβve been trying to find it for over a month and itβs been constantly out of stock. Have they actually started shipping them yet?
Do I need to buy a Lutron Castea Bridge hub to use Lutron Casteta switches with Aeotech Smartthings?
I know the answer with the old Samsung Smartthings was "yes," but the Aeotech website implies that the new Aerotech Smartthings hub is compatible with Lutron Castea without an additional hub.
I just bought one of these devices to setup a Z-Wave network in the house. Primarily, I'm going to try to fix my issues with my August Wifi Lock Gen4 (looks like they added Z-Wave support) - and remove from wifi.
I found this old thread from over a year ago : https://www.reddit.com/r/homebridge/comments/gpbjye/aeotec_zstick/
Has anyone gotten this working with RPi 4, and also with Homebridge? I'm finding a lot of differing information on Home Assistant and other forums. I'm unclear if I need to have this plugged into a different computer, and how to use the Domoticz software, and potentially the homebridge-edomoticz plugin.
Anybody know what's going with Aeotec and their Smart Hub? Sold out everywhere. I found a bunch of Samsung V3 units on eBay, not sure if they are grey market or not. I heard since Aeotec took over the hubs they are better.
I have a Z-wave Aeotec Nanomote Quad, which I use to control lighting in a room. It works, but it is really slow, and I believe that is because execution is handled in the cloud, confirmed by checking the status in the IDE
Is it wrong to expect that a Z-wave remote should operate locally? (especially one by Aeotec, who seem to be the primary ST hardware vendor)
For reference, this nanomote quad is using the "Z-Wave Multi Button" device type, which feels generic enough. The devices I'm controlling are
Could it be that my one cloud-based light forces the whole device to use cloud execution? Am I using a wrong DTH?
Want to confirm it can be done before committing to buying the wrong model for my region and wasting time & money. The US model is sold out everywhere...
Bought (2) of these switches but can't get either one to pair. Third Reality wall switches are listed as compatible without custom device handlers. Any tips?
Ready to get downvoted into oblivion because I'm either an idiot or it's just not possible. Bought a new cheap motion sensor from Amazon, compatible with Smart Life. Smart Life needs a Zigbee gateway to connect the device. I have an Aeotec Smart Home Hub v3, Zigbee good to go. But I cannot pair Smart Life to the Aeotec hub for the life of me. Have searched everywhere to try and figure out how to put hub into pair mode. Alexa found this device and it's ready for routines, but I really prefer to use it for automations on Smartthings, Smart Life, or sharp tools. Any one out there have any ideas, or am I about to get roasted for my stupid question?
Question for group. I have a v2 hub. Is there any reason to upgrade to the Aeotec hub?
