A list of puns related to "1820"
His neighbors would describe Joseph and the Smith family as a family full of lazy drifters with an alcoholic dad, kooky to the max, believing in folk magic and spells and animal rituals, magical spirits and visions. They would charge money to dig up treasure that they never found. And Joseph was thought of as a liar and a conman and cheat. And a womanizer.
I don't think that is "religious persecution".
Think of the wackiest family in your neighborhood: they don't own their house, the parents don't really have jobs, they move around a lot, they are always in on the next scam (essential oils and magic crystals), the kids are a chip off the old block, nobody who has their head on straight respects them....would you join a church started by a kid in that family?
That is the Joseph Smith family. Go read about what their neighbors thought of them. It's no wonder Joseph had to keep moving the church around.
Note: vice presidential nominations welcome in comments.
Recovering from resounding defeats in the elections of 1816 and 1818, the Federalist party meets to choose its next presidential candidate from a wide field of potential nominees.
DeWitt Clinton served a single term as President and is the current Governor of New York. Although he led a controversial term and lost the previous general election, he won election as Governor in his home state in 1817. He dealt with the 1819 recession with an unsteady hand, however, and only narrowly won re-election to the governorship earlier in 1820; many have doubts as to his electability.
John Quincy Adams served as Clinton's second Secretary of State and has been Senator from Massachusetts since 1818. He is well regarded by many Federalists nationwide, and quickly rose to leadership of the party in the Senate. Adams was also an ally of Thomas Jefferson when he was president, which may help his image with the overall electorate as Jefferson remains widely popular.
Richard Rush served as Attorney General for all four years of the Clinton administration. He also served for several years as ambassador to Great Britain, helping to negotiate the Treaty of York. Rush's positions are moderate for a Federalist, advocating for strict oversight of the national debt and moderate tariff rates as opposed to high tariffs and large government spending.
Daniel D. Tompkins served as Secretary of War for the first half of Monroe's term. He broke with the President over funding for internal improvements and the structure of the standing army, and his faction boycotted the Republican caucus. His supporters instead sought his nomination by the Federalist party, though did not renounce the Republican one.
With four candidates in the field, the Federalist party seeks to field a strong enough nominee to topple President Monroe.

... keep reading on reddit β‘The Revenant is a great film, and one that I would call a historical fantasy. Hugh Glass was a real person and he was attacked by a bear but the script was very much Hollywoodified.
He didn't have an Indian relationship or son, and he didn't kill Fitzgerald in the end, just found him and recovered his rifle.
So in 200 years what people or events will be Hollywoodified?
In the midst of an economic recession and following the aversion of a Union-threatening crisis, the nation must choose the president for the next four years.
Republican caucus
With his undisputed leadership role in the party, President Monroe was nominated for a second term unanimously. The nomination up for grabs was the vice presidency, with opposition to conservative Nathaniel Macon being expressed in a protest candidacy by William Crawford, the incumbent Secretary of the Treasury. Opposition proved especially strong, with the first ballot resulting in a tie. Administration supporters managed to convince a few electors to change their votes before the second ballot, giving Macon a two-vote majority for the nomination.
The Republican platform showed the influences of the conservative domination of the administration. The party stood against internal improvements and opposed the national bank, seeking to subordinate it to the Congress, and opposed tariffs. It also endorsed expansionism to the west, opposed foreign alliances, and encouraged immigration. Notably, any mention of the expansion of voting rights was neglected.
Republican ticket: President James Monroe of Virginia and Vice President Nathaniel Macon of North Carolina.
Federalist caucus
As the caucus convened, there were four candidates in contention. The presumed front-runner for the nomination was the former president and current New York Governor, DeWitt Clinton. This notion was dispelled on the first ballot at the caucus; Senator John Quincy Adams, the second Secretary of State during the Clinton administration and son of former President John Adams, clinched over 45% of the votes. Clinton placed a distant second, with only 23% of votes. Richard Rush, the third place candidate with 16%, encouraged his supporters to vote for Adams. The second ballot gave Adams an easy majority. In gratitude, Rush was nominated for vice president.
The Federalist platform reflected the influence of moderates in the party. The national bank and internal improvements were both endorsed, with a moderate position on tariffs. With Rush's influence, the party adopted a vigilant stance agains

President Monroe was re-nominated with very little opposition, his opponents having boycotted the convention. The question for the caucus to decide is who will run with Monroe.
Nathaniel Macon is the sitting Vice President. He sits in the conservative wing of the party, and is one of the more important members of the administration. He is seen as a staunch Jeffersonian with his record in both houses of Congress and as vice president, voting to protect the rights of the states and opposing executive power. No wing of the party that hasn't broken with the president would be opposed to his re-nomination.
William Crawford is the current Secretary of the Treasury. Many tend to see Crawford as nothing more than an ambitious politician maneuvering to ascend to the presidency; however, they cannot deny his administrative skill. In his six years as Treasury Secretary, only one of his budgets has been a deficit, and he helped Monroe accomplish a reduction of the national debt.
With a minority of Republicans having broken off in opposition to Monroe to try and defeat him, the majority of the party meets to select the vice presidential candidate.

Fun fact: The top result when I searched "fun fact" on google was:"A mushroom is neither a fruit nor a vegetable; technically mushrooms aren't even plants. They are a special type of fungusβa notion that puts some people off. If you don't mind the fungus part, though, mushrooms are a great addition to a healthy dietβnot to mention totally delicious."
