Long idea: Yantai Changyu Pioneer Wine (200869 CH)
  • China’s largest wine producer, with a domestic market share of 11%.
  • 128 years of history and the brand is well-known across the country.
  • Upgrading product quality through investments and co-operation with European partners. Has built new production facilities using state-of-the-art European equipment.
  • China’s per capita wine consumption in litres is 1/6 of that of the United States and only 1/25 of that of France. Young consumers are more open to drinking wine, thanks to perceived health benefits.
  • Suffered from the post-2013 anti-corruption campaign as sales to restaurants used for government or SOE related receptions plummeted. Also suffered from lower import tariffs and a large increase in imports from Australia and Chile. Revenues were also weak during the pandemic.
  • Changyu reported a decent recovery in the third quarter of 2020.
  • China just imposed punitive tariffs on Australian wine of 107-212%, essentially shutting out roughly 19% of the supply. Some of this demand will flow to Changyu.
  • The Changyu B-share trades at 2022e PE of 7.9x and a dividend yield of 5%+ and trades at a 68% discount to the A-share, close to a record high.

Would you live in Yantai or Weifang?

I am hopefully going to teach English in China next year as soon as the world somewhat goes back to normal.

The company I am interviewing with has given me a choice of Yantai or Weifang, but I feel like I haven't been able to find enough information on either to make a decision.

I like shopping, nature, and history. I do not drink or party, so nightlife isn't a big factor in my choice. I would like to be close to a big city that I can go to on weekends if possible. I also really like spicy food. Which would you choose?

Living in Yantai ?

I have a job offer teaching English in Yantai for once borders open up. I'll have a fair bit of spare time in the city, and I can't find much information about what is available in Yantai. Are there any places I can go to play sport casually (basketball/football etc) or any pool/snooker bars? Also wondering if there are any video game cafes or places with gaming pcs to use. Otherwise, any general suggestions of good places/ways to spend free time in Yantai would be appreciated.

Nintendo is one of the companies impacted due to high demand of Switch. Recently they have been looking to ramp up production at the Yantai, Shandong (China) plant to meet demand. Shortages in Japan are already common. Impact in the West will be more clear in Q2. twitter.com/ZhugeEX/statu…
