A list of puns related to "Visual Novel"
I suppose this can equate to boobs mostly, but you can consider other parts, or even the whole figure. For what it's worth in the VN scene I basically considered "Extra Thicc" those women with ridiculously large unrealistic sized boobs.
I voted Medium.
For me it all started when i played mass effect. I remember i love that game a lot and it also has a romance in it. Of course i picked tali. And then after i finished the third mass effect. I began to search what games that have romance in it. Oh man i remember searching a lot of game for example persona series, trails of cold steel series. And i tried to play trails of cold steel but i just cant get into it. So i dive deeper and then i remember there this thread where this guy ask the same question as me that is what game has romance in it. And i read all the answers and then someone answered that "if you ok with adult stuff then here is my recommendation". I read and then i stumbled across game name kamidori alchemy meister. And i search it up on youtube if it really has romance and then it really does have romance in it. So i download it and played it. First i thought the adult stuff was like mass effect where they just kiss and then fade to black. But i was shocked. There is a literal wiener on my face. And tbh with you all. I covered the entire h-scene with my hand while clicking lol. And then there is so many h-scene that i just said f**k it lets just watch it. And then i beat the game. And then i search for more like that. And then i discoveres sakuranomori. I tried reading it and tbh it wasnt that good for me. And then i dived in deeper until i discovered a genre in game called visual novel. I searched it up trying to see what it was. And thats where i started to read my first ever visual novel no rpg mechanic in it name sharin no kuni. And i love it to bits. After that, i started found out about vndb where you can search for visual novel. And thats where the journey start for me.
So..what about you? Please share i really want to know.
For context the only visual novels I have beat are steins gate and steins gate 0 and I was curious if you guys had any other recommendations.
As the titles says!
Mine would be... Kimi to Kanojo to Kanojo no Koi/You and Me and Her a love story.
I've seen some people argue about how the "VN medium" is dying. The arguments on both sides on whether it's dying or not make sense but outside some companies closing or losing employees I can't really confirm either way.
What I can talk about, is how visual novels can improve their storytelling so the medium doesn't become too complacent, and I think applies to both Japanese-made VNs and any made outside it. I'd like to make a video about it but what wanted to get some feedback from other people in case I missed any major points below.
General Improvements
Narration/Monologue padding. I know one of the main reasons you read a visual novel is specifically so you can have narration, monologuing, and more time to build up to something. However, unless part of the is narration is specifically building up to something, I think a lot of this padding could easily be trimmed or removd to get to the point(s) a lot quicker.
Protagonist voice acting. I know there are many reasons why you wouldn't include it, whether it's costly, or you want to increase the "self-insert" factor. The self-insert factor would make more sense in a nukige or even a romance-heavy story. But if part of a story is to have some semblance of a story or even emotional drama parts, it would make sense for the protagonist to be voiced in the non-18+ content.
Protagonists with actual personality. The "plain" protagonist thing works in romance-heavy VNs where the focus is on the love interests. However, in anything with any semblance of plot or character development it would be nice if more characters had... any personality. I don't expect them all to be amazing, but I'd like more writers to at least try more. Some may complain they'd rather have a plain protag than an annoying/whiny protag, but I disagree, as I consider that a test that can go well depending on the story, or if not just a lesson learned and to try something different.
More post-high school settings. Some story-oriented visual novels have ventured into post-high school age characters. But a vast majority still at least have implied high school age characters at the same minimum. And moege very clearly uses 18 year old high school trope vast majority of the time. It says something when Making * Lovers is one of the most popular moege out there now, popular enough to get a sequel in name.
Moege/Charage
I don't think I've ever been obsessed with a story as much as I am with 13 Sentinels right now. So many plot twists and details, even with 13 separate characters to keep track of, the game makes you want to know more. How are they all connected? What is the true motive of any character? What is going to happen next?
As a casual gamer who usually just like one runthrough of a game to get the complete story, I find myself reading over all the unlockable texts. Going back to events to see the alternatives. Rereading scripts if I felt I missed something.
Even the battles in between are fun! They're not the most challenging thing in the world, but its a fun break if you feel a bit bogged down by too much text at once. I find myself running through them so I can unlock more of the story.
I see its on sale (as it is frequently), but I would totally give this game a shot if you were on the fence about it. Gorgeous visuals, outstanding english VA work, and such an amazing sci-fi story. Just had to rave about this game!
As the title has said!
When you think of visual novels, does any developer specific come to mind?
As for myself, I'd say Nitroplus because of the way they tell their stories! always so... interesting!
Lately I've been seeing quite a few people taking the one-ending-and-done approach to VNs, and while I don't mean to judge or reproach anyone doing so I do wonder how common this playstyle is. I'm aware that not all VNs have a true ending or even multiple routes, but for the sake of this poll let's consider one that does. I'm also aware that it's fairly common to stop playing a VN after one ending because the game just isn't clicking or maybe that one ending was satisfying enough, but what I want to know is not when you are done with a VN but rather when do you consider you have completed it. For clarification, by optional routes I mean routes that aren't needed to reach the true ending or routes that unlock after reaching the true ending.
Iβve tried digging but I couldnβt find one. Itβs kinda hard to find a good one that isnβt Coming Out On Top!

I've seen many people who want to read visual novels in Japanese but are afraid it'll take too much and time and grinding to get to a good spot. This video will show the bare minimum to read visual novels in Japanese. You will be far from fluent, but you will know enough to at least get by through lots of word lookups.
In short, this video will cover hiragana, katakana, and grammar and why you need to know them. I will also cover actually buying and setting up a visual novel to read in Japanese, including getting text from the visual novel so you can look things up.
This is what I personally consider the 'fastest' way to learn Japanese to read visual novels specifically. I would also include tips on how to get text from visual novels, whether it's through Textractor or various other sources out there.
The description has some links to resource I talk about both for Learning Japanese and setting up Text Extraction from VNs in various ways.
This video leans towards beginners, but if any veterans has anything I missed, feel free to point that out:
so, recently, i found out that VNDB actually tells you which VNs have fan translations, and with that realization, i found out that a lot of VNs that i wanted didnt have translations :((((((( so here are some more VNs which i wish had translations
same rules as last time
also, you may notice it says part 1. its because there are a LOT. so im dividing it
Exile Election (An Apocalyptic Death Game Vn in which the protag want to kill some of the people by using the game in his favor because they killed his sister)
Getsuei Gakuen Kou (a guy with the help of the student council tries to kill monsters that attack people. by the people that gave you Blazblue)
DMLC Death Match Love Comedy (a game in the same universe as Raging Loop in which a guy has a curse which makes him explode if someone confesses his love to him)
Occultic;Nine (a part of the SCIADV Series (sorta) about a occult group discovering something that could change whats considered common sense in the world)
Jack Jeanne (a girl enters a male theatre school in which she has to not let anyone find out she is a girl. i think its written by the same guy who did Tokyo Ghoul)
Gunjou no Sora o Koete (a Political War Drama)
Trianthology ~Sanmenkyou no Kuni no Alice~ (a witch threatens to H.R. gige his friend and in order to not die he shows her some stories. has some connections with the When They Cry series)
Paradise Lost (the game that started the Shinza Bansho Series, about a city in which death is pretty common)
Kajiri Kamui Kagura (A sequel to Dies Irae, about a group of people trying to conquer a continent full of demons)
Date a Live: Ren Dystopia (a Dating Sim of Date a Live)
Hayarigami - Keishichou Kaii Jiken File (a paranormal cop mystery VN that for some reason reminds me of Spirit Hunter NG)
Tenshi no Nichou Kenjuu -Angelos Armas- (angels fight ghosts with guns)
Gleam Garden no Shoujo -Witch in Gleamgarden- (a guy goes to an academy for girls with superpowers and tries to help them control their powers)
Soranica Ele (theres some tournament to become something called an Ark and the end of the world is close)
... keep reading on reddit β‘Hello everyone! I am an aspiring visual novelist, and currently I am working on a project called The Tribe of the Sacred Fox. I need someone to draw 10 total characters as well as some shadows/silhouettes for side characters. I would like them to be in an anime style - it will be a relatively innocent story, however I have a character that has a scar. I would like these all to be clear PNGs. I will be using them in Ren'py.
The 3 main characters are all middle school children. I would like them to be waist-up, 10 expressions, 2 poses, and 3 costumes. I am willing to pay $60-$80 for each character.
The last 6 characters have various costumes/expressions, though they are much less than the main characters. I am willing to negotiate price for them.
I have no deadline for this but regardless I would still like it to be completed in a timely manner (as in just don't take forever)!
I do have references for all the characters and am willing to provide as much information as you would need. When contacting me all I ask is you send me a sample of your artwork. Please let me know if you have any questions!
The best way to contact me is through Discord (Linkulous#4947) but you are welcome to comment or message me through Reddit (r/Linkulouss). You can also email me at wolflover75@gmail.com.
I'm willing to pay you through PayPal, Venmo, CashApp, Zelle, or pretty much anything else you would like.
Thank you very much and I look forward to seeing what you have!
Everytime I see someone comment under good Vn like Subahibi or Aokana something like "dOeS iT hAVe H-sCEneS?" I want to break my screen. Some visual novels are written better than 95% of anime and they get degraded on the same level as hentai which is annoying af. Imagine how the developers feel lol.
Edit: After reading the comments I have realised that I'm indeed in the wrong here. I should respect other mediums as well.
Hey Reddit,
I'm 19/f from eastern europe, so please forgive my poor english. Also forgive talking about self so much, but I hope to find others with similar stories :)
My autism has always made friendship maintenance hard. Spontaneous things are difficult for me or cope with uncertainty in plans with others.
I spend a lot of my teenage years replacing social interaction with media consumption. Last year, I found visual novels after watching the Higurashi anime. Wow! Gradually, my way of thinking begin to change.
When before, uncertain situations defeated me, now I see them as multiple-choice scenarios. The paths behind these choices may be uncertain, but that is okay. Whether good end, or bad end the uncertainty in the stories of our lives is what makes them worth living :) Maybe this obvious to normal people, but for me it was an important discovery
My country is closed because of pandemic. But now, I have plans with friends for when it is open. Have anyone else experienced mental change from visual novels?
Hello reddit,

I plan on buying a PSVita sometime this year, but I know a lot of the games on there are visual novels or RPGs and I don't like either of those (only RPG on the Vita I have interest in is P4G, but I do like Action RPGs). I'm not too familiar with the Vita so I don't know too many titles besides Uncharted: Golden Abyss. Leave any notable games or hidden gems in the comments please!
Does anyone know any good Visual Novels where the mc wants revenge?
