A list of puns related to "Use Your Illusion Tour"
From a recent interview with Brando, host of the Appetite For Distortion podcast:
>Roberta: And I remember one particular thing that... I've never said this in an interview before, because, you know, it could keep me from work, from getting work, for saying this. But I think now is the time to speak out against injustice. At the time we were on tour with Metallica, and James [Hetfield], Slash and Axl were talking. I remember passing them in... I donβt remember where it was, but it was some outdoor venue, and they were in an area and I had to pass them to get to my dressing room. And I heard James say about Ice T - because Ice T was supposed to join us on the tour β and he said, βI donβt wanna share my stage with a n-word.β And I was like, βWhat did he say?!β - you know, like, I couldnβt believe my ears. And Axl was just like, you know, βItβs my showβ β I donβt remember what he said, I mean that was such a long time ago and I think my whole brain was clouded with such anger that I just kind of blacked out, you know, I just saw red.
>
>Brando: I understand. Did he say βthat...β, or did he say βa...β?
>
>Roberta: βIβm not sharing my stage with a... n-word.β

This sheds light to a reference in Axl's rant on Metallica at the show in Sacramento in 1993:
>Axl: I watched the man named James prove that - you know, since Iβm supposed to be the βrock racist,β cuz I used a word once? I watched the man show me that he was a motherfucking racist. He got a real big problem with Ice-T and any black man, actually. βOh, rap is really terrible. Black men [?]β I watched him be really shitty at black people who worked with us. That wasnβt very enjoyable.
(Of course that rant was also -or mainly - triggered by what Hetfield had then said about Axl in the press and on the Metallica home video.)
I helped set up the stage electronics and equipment, and lived and toured with the band. Lots of stories and memories, so ask away!
No matter how awakened you are, we still gotta play the game. Just play it wiser and more compassionately and things will flow. Your ego is something to understand and work with, not something to deny and bury.
If Use Your Illusions had been released only as one album what would be the ideal track list for you? Itβs a tad long but trying to keep it at the length of a single album this is what I came up with. Obviously thereβs some weird spaces between songs because theyβve been rearranged but I think it has a good flow to it. Share yours! Feedback welcome.
This applies to players but I really want to stress this to DMs when controlling the enemies in combat. I've been re-watching a certain VERY popular DnD stream and the DM always gives the opponents a free Investigation against every illusion that party creates. It's frustrating to watch because the majority of illusions usually say that you must use an action to inspect it; to determine if it is real or not.
The party often times creates decent plans that incorporate their illusion magic pretty well. But their plans almost always fall to pieces because the enemies get free Investigation checks the instant an illusion is used. This is without using an action, and without a valid excuse to suspect that it may be an illusion in the first place. Illusions can be so useful both in combat and out. If an enemy believes an illusion is real, you can usually make them waste an entire turn (or even more) trying to attack it. I feel bad for the players because it is just about worthless to use illusions under the conditions that the DM handles them.
DMs, let your enemies be bamboozled by a good use of an illusion, and make them use their action to inspect it once something fishy happens.
"Wow, kids are really gullible these days," I thought to myself, watching them lining up at the window, which is on the 9th floor
Anything in the works?
Edit: fixed the broken link.
I was commenting on a TIL that mentioned "magnetic Hills," and it reminded me of my experience in Shaqlawa, so I thought I might as well make it into a post on /r/Kurdistan.
In 2012 when I was touring the Kurdish part of Iraq, our driver, who was also our guide, took us to an arid hill. Climbed up half of it and turned off the engine, we freaked the fuck out, but the car kept on going forward instead. I even asked him to pull up the handbrake and let me ride at the driver's seat to see it for myself, and it was wild.
It wasn't until years later that I found that it was an optical illusion! Here's the study.
#14. 'My World.' What the hell?
#13. 'Shotgun Blues.' This song isn't that bad, but, it seems like Axl is trying way too hard to roast someone. I still listen to it, though, and its chorus is beautifully catchy.
#12. 'Breakdown.' This isn't great, but it's good, I guess..? It's just kind of boring, so I don't have much to say about it.
#11. 'Knockin' On Heavens Door.' This is the best GnR cover I have listened to. Axl's vocals throughout the song are cunning, and the guitar solo is great. One of the best breakdowns I have ever heard in rock history.
#10. 'Get In The Ring.' Now, unlike shotgun blues, Axl actually made a song that doesn't sound cringy (well... sort of). Showing a bit of GnR's more pissed-off side, the song starts with a beautiful guitar solo and makes its way into a fast-paced, badass feel. The chant from the audience ('Get in the ring! Get in the ring!) adds to this experience.
#9. 'So Fine.' One of the more meaningful love songs on the album. I personally think this is extremely underrated, as I feel every single band member put their heart and soul into creating it. Also a very rare calm song by the band. I feel that half of the emotion in the song is given by the beautiful piano tunes.
#8. 'You Could Be Mine.' A perfect way of representing the Terminator. The drum intro at the start really catches my attention (probably 'cause I'm a drummer), and any part after is amazing. The guitar solo is extremely creative, and during the bridge, Axl sounds like he's pouring his soul out.
#7. 'Yesterdays.' I don't think I can explain how fun listening to this song is. The steady drum beats and beautiful piano rhythms build the meaning in this song. And the lyrics, especially;
'Cause yesterday's got nothin' for me
Old pictures that I'll always see
Some things could be better if we'd all just let them be
'87-'93 will always be the greatest era of Guns N' Roses.
#6. 'Pretty Tied Up.' This is an extremely amazing Guns N' Roses song that has no reason to be as underrated as it is. The intro is amazing, the lyrics are nice, and the chorus is... funny? I guess. The guitar solo is amazing, and the outro is really fun to listen to. An all-around solid song that needs more attention.
#5. '14 Years.' I really love GnR songs sung by Izzy Stradlin because he is such a good singer, and gives a whole different vibe. I don't really have anything else much to say, which I hate because
... keep reading on reddit β‘I co-host a fairly popular all Metallica podcast called Metal Up Your Podcast. We occasionally do episodes that are βMetallica-adjacent.β
Weβre all huge Guns fans and thought it would be fun to scale down the Use Your Illusion albums to one, 15 song record and re-sequence it. Weβve done a similar thing with Metallicaβs Load and Reload.
Anyway, hereβs the episode for anyone interested in a fun deep dive into these albums. A song had to get a best of 3 votes to move into the next round. It got a little heated at times, but all in good fun. You can find the podcast wherever you listen to podcasts and the episode at the link below. Cheers!

Yeah the Chinese Democracy album wasn't as great as those stellar albums 30 years ago but it had a few good tracks. There Was A Time especially is a banger.
If that was on UYI tell me that wouldn't be considered a classic
As a lifelong GNR fan, I really enjoyed the not in this lifetime tour, but I was a bit disappointed that there weren't a lot of deep UYI cuts. We all love the hits and the classic Appetite material, but also, we've heard it. Personally I'd love to see GNR do a UYI heavy setlist. Although not a popular opinion, I'd like to hear them do away with all the traditional hits, i.e. jungle, paradise city, scom, don't cry, november rain. I love those songs, but I want to hear the weirder stuff. I want to hear right next door to hell, the garden, locomotive.
Is this something that gets discussed? A lot of bands will do classic album tours where they play the entire record the whole way through. Can we get an Illusions tour where we hear UYI1 and UYI2 the entire way through? I'd be in the front row for that.
Am I wrong?
