When is it okay to get off uric acid medication?

So I had a gout flare up after I had a few pints and red meat for almost 3 consecutive days about 6 months ago.

I was also training regularly and was on a high protein, high fat and low carb diet. I had just started taking BCAAs.

It was bad and I immediately stopped having dairy, red meat and alcohol. I am a smoker though (trying to quit).

The uric acid peaked to 12.27 after when I got tested right before another flare up 2 months back. I started taking allopathy and homeopathy in December and I got tested again for uric acid and the serum levels dropped to 5.25.

I did have alcohol and red meat one night after the results came in, and the gout affected joint felt slightly sore the next day.

My doctor has asked me to stay on meds until March (which I feel is alot), as I continue minding my diet. I’m just too conscious about having excessive medication in my system, but if someone has been in the same boat, when did you come off meds, just curious and how’d it feel? Did the uric acid levels fluctuate as you switched your diet?

Soz for too much text! Thanks!

Breakthrough gout with low uric acid level

I have been on 300mg allopurinol for a little over a year now. My uric acid level as of last August was 4.3. Yet I still have gout flareups from time to time. My rheumatologist changed me to 400mg allo. I have colchicine for flares as well as prednisone (which works well).

What I don't understand is why, with such a low uric acid level, I get any flareups at all. When I went from 7.6 four years ago (non-medicated) to 4.3 now I thought that I should be just about immune to gout, yet still it happens.

Any thoughts on why this is?

Thanks.

Soda can reduce uric acid?

>KOMPAS.comΒ β€” Minuman berkarbonasi alias minuman bersoda selama ini sering dihindari karena dianggap kurang sehat. Padahal, minuman yang punya efek menyegarkan ini juga bisa membantu mengurangi tumpukan kristal asam urat.

Translation: Carbonated drinks are often viewed as an unhealthy drinks. However, these refreshing drinks can actually reduce the build-up of uric acid.

This source says otherwise: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18163396/

>Serum uric acid levels increased with increasing sugar-sweetened soft drink intake. After adjusting for covariates, serum uric acid levels associated with sugar-sweetened soft drink consumption categories (<0.5, 0.5-0.9, 1-3.9, and >or=4 servings/day) were greater than those associated with no intake by 0.08, 0.15, 0.33, and 0.42 mg/dl, respectively (95% confidence interval 0.11, 0.73; P<0.001 for trend). The multivariate odds ratios for hyperuricemia according to the corresponding sweetened soft drink consumption levels were 1.01, 1.34, 1.51, and 1.82, respectively (P=0.003 for trend). Hal tersebut sesuai dengan prinsip kimia, senyawa basa dicampur dengan senyawa asam akan menjadi netral ditambah garam.

Prof Made Astawan needs to learn a concept named buffer solution, a weak acid + conjugate base mix that changes the PH very little when a small amount of acid or alkaline is added to the solution. This solution is present in blood in the form forms of carbonic acid and bicarbonate. This ensures that blood retained its preferred PH, and won't be affected by what foot we eat (to a certain extent). In fact acidosis sometimes actually

To help monitor my progress, I looked into home uric acid tests.

Did anyone else invest in one of these? And did you find it useful in monitoring your levels?

I bought one on Amazon and it should arrive today.

EDIT: I had a suspected gout flare up on my left toe about 2 weeks ago. Toe was super inflamed and pain was unbearable. It cleared up after 2 days but I'm still having lingering effects. Dr. thinks it's gout but hasn't done nor is recommending to do a definitive analysis to confirm if it's gout or not.

But as my wife says, if you hear hooves, it's probably not a zebra - unless you're in a veldt.

Uric acid and keto

So I am in the process of losing weight. Started my journey at 315 and now I weigh 265. For the past 40 days I have started doing keto . I’m on a limited budget so I eat as clean as I can afford . I had previously experienced many gout flairs and now it’s been consistent pain for a couple weeks. Not severe like before but it hinders my workouts . My general routine is a black coffee or coffee with heavy cream if I’m not doing a fast day In the morning . I proceed to the gym then will have a protein shake with almond milk , I break my fast with bone broth and some butter and a half a cucumber before the shake. Then a little after that I make a green tea to sip on with 2 tsp of coconut oil and 1 tbsp of organic lemon juice . I usually add a little cinnamon and turmeric . Then I have roughly 200-275g of protein for my supper and broccoli and cauliflower or green beans (butter on everything lol ). Usually some Shredded cheddar but I tried removing it for the past week and I still had gout pain. Also I have a sip of pickle juice occasionally for some electrolytes . And supplement with a solid multivitamin and zinc , vitamin D , as well as omega 3’s .

So I have a few questions . Is there something I should change? Does this eventually subside? I know whey protein has less purines and I was also wondering if I increased my protein intake into 2 shakes as my source of protein and cut down the meat ?

Sorry for the massive post but it’s a massive journey right :)

Should I persuade my doctor to prescribe me allopurinol/refer me to a rheumatologist with a normal uric acid level?

I was diagnosed with gout mid-August. I have no idea how I got it: I work out at least 3 times a week; eat a healthy diet primarily composed of chicken breast, rice, and vegetables; hardly ever eat beef or seafood; drink hard liquor straight 2-3x a month; and lack a family history.

The episode was debilitating and took me about 3 weeks to fully recover. A combination of the pain and restriction to my range of movement kept me nearly bed bound for those at least 1.5 weeks and greatly interfered with my quality of life for the rest of time.

I saw my doctor who prescribed me indocin which helped a lot but gave me the worst stomach problems even when I took my omeprazole beforehand. I would often wake up in the middle of the night from the pain and be forced to eat something. Wanting never to go through this pain in my life, I talked to my doctor about putting me on allopurinol but my labs just made it into the normal range for uric acid after weeks of me drinking gallons of water and eating only porridge and vegetables.

This morning I started to feel a flare coming on and took my indocin which is helping, albeit I don't know if it's merely treating my symptoms. I'm glad my classes are over for the semester, but I'd rather not go through pain and immobilization of a gout episode and indocin side effects. Should I pressure my doctor to refer me to a rheumatologist or straight up prescribe me allopurinol?

Is Uric Acid bad?

I made a post before about my uric acid levels.
I am now on my 3rd Month on keto diet and really the only value that really worries me is my uric acid.

I drink 4L Water a day my macros are a bit off balance with mostly only 50% Fat 45% proteins but I don't really see why I should intake more kcal by adding pure fat even thought I am already full just to complete the makros.
Kcal I am also often in a deficit and doing 16/8 IM.

Now the Uric Acid Levels are high, I somewhat irregular self tested them with a blood sugar device and got readings above 12 mg/dl
One morning I tested I got a pretty nice value of only 6,3 mg/dl were I thought I am finally over this but a week later I measured in the morning again and got 14 mg/dl again.
I read a post of someone fasting for 15 days and he got insane UA levels too so I am really wondering if most is only my body disassembling itself thats getting me my UA values, but is that bad?
I am really happy with the keto diet as I lost 14kg so far and otherwise feel really great.

So for the record, I'm 18, had left knee pain for 2 years but ignored it for an year altogether. Got it checked last year, turned out I had high uric acid levels in my blood. I was advised to avoid eating protein rich stuff and start exercising. The levels dropped down in 6 months, and I was put off medications. However the levels recently shot up again and now I'm on medication for 3 months, and the same dietary advise. Problem being, I can't go to gym without feeling sore when I eat less protein stuff. I have been eating the slow carb diet for the last 1.5 month and the results have been amazing, lost 6cm of waistlline, lost at max 10kg and keeping around 6kg in lost weight, went down a size in clothing, and looked and felt better.
However, my routine serum uric acid came out rising from 6.0ish to 8.3ish while taking the same medication, gout flare-ups have never been a problem throughout my life just serum uric acid levels, my main suspicion is the rapid weight loss but family members is concerned with the amount of beans I consume and showing recent study linking high serum uric acid levels and insulin resistance also didn't ease of their worry.
My take is that if I increase the number of vegetables in my diet therefore increasing fiber and also increasing protein intake to offset the beans would achieve the same effect, is my logic correct? any other help would be appreciated.
