A list of puns related to "University Of Manchester"
If you've got any questions about the uni, feel free to ask them here.
I'm applying for computer science undergraduate.
I don't really enjoy the nightlight (parties, music, concerts) but I do like the city on having a lot to do outside. On the other hand, I really like Aberystwyth due to the environment although I know there is not a lot of shops around. Which university is better and which one would you choose.
Any feedback from previous graduates of the universities would be appreciated.
Can anyone help me out please? I want to know when certain modules are offered for semester 1 2019
Hi to everyone,
This September I'll study international management in one of these 3 universities: -LSE; -University of Manchester; -University of Bath.
I know LSE is the best option, but I am still waiting for an offer; then, if I am rejected, I'll have to choose between UoM and UoB. Ergo, which of these two universities is more internationally recognised and is better academically in the Management/Economics field?
Thank you in advance.
Hey! I'm an international student applying to UK universities for Chemistry. I've gotten offers from Durham and UoM; still waiting for UCL to get back to me. Personally, I'm leaning more towards Durham and UoM as London has a more expensive cost of living. However, UCL is seen to be more prestigious in Singapore (my home country), which would probably help in employment prospects (as I will be returning back to SG to work).
Can't go for any of these unis' open days since I don't live in the UK, anyone able to offer insights as to the:
also heard that UoM is (infamously) known for its drug problems. is this an actual issue in the uni or is it simply a rumour?
The feeling sucks!!
An article about the running community at Manchester University and Manchester in general. They've done a lot of work for the homeless so just though i'd highlight the article.

I'm sure there's going to be a lot of new students coming to the University this September, please feel welcome here to post any questions or comments you may have!

Hi all,
University of Manchester has nerfed it's in house pensions (UMSS instead of the country wide USS), they've removed the final salary section (frozen at current level, for me this is 10 years at finishing at Β£30,000) and the previous CARE section (which was 1/80th) and replaced them with a new CARE section that is 1/100th (for existing members) alongside a new DC section for any new starts or transfers in from CARE.
This new CARE 1/100th section is possibly the lowest accrual rate I've heard of. I'm rapidly learning about pensions because of the turmoil going on, but I'm fairly sure this is pretty bad? Normally the advice is that DB trumps DC, but this accrual is so low, it sounds to me like the DC is better! Am I missing something?
1/100th CARE

DC section
sliding employer contributions depending on employee contributions, I would go for the max:
Min: 0% employee gets you 9.5% Employer
Max: 7% employee gets you 16.5% employer for 23.5% total
The pension calculators I've seen do put the DC one ahead in a safe(ish) withdrawal drawdown situation (need to play with cfiresim a bit more), and even in an annuity situation but it feels like I'm missing something. Are there any questions I should be asking here?
The details are not all released yet (goes live Jan 2019), but it mentions you can choose your investments from managed pension funds. I assume this means you can choose your risk level, but not choose to invest in Vanguard LS 80 for instance.
There may be an option of moving to USS in the future but I understand this one also has issues!
For info I'm expecting salary to rise to Β£40-50k over 20 years, looking to retire early (60 or earlier) using SIPP & ISA funds.
Hi, I am interested to know your opiniond on the Chemical Engineering programmes in UoM before I apply into it. Would be great if you are an alumni or current student in it.
