A list of puns related to "Unemployment Benefits"
The $1,500 in lost pay was only part of it.
While the symptoms were indeed mild. There was also almost $200.00 for various cold and sore throat medications.
Sadly, there are zero unemployment benefits available , and I did not have the PTO available for the 2 weeks.

McClain, who left USC for Jackson State last November, was charged with 10 counts of mail fraud and two counts of aggravated identify theft. McClain has pleaded not guilty.
USC was not listed as part of the indictment. It lists only a βUniversity 1β, but McClain was enrolled at USC from July 2020-Sept. 2020, the dates given for when the scheme took place.
Fraudulent EDD cards were sent to addresses near USCβs campus, on Jefferson and Lincoln Blvd.
Approximately 36 fraudulent claims were made for PUA benefits as part of the scheme, per the U.S. Attorneyβs Office. Those applications sought more than $900,000 from EDD, but ultimately totaled losses of nearly $228,000.
I have a couple of mechanical engineering degrees I never put to use (took too long to realize that I did not enjoy it). Instead, after graduation, I became a personal trainer and worked at a commercial gym for a year. It was a very toxic work environment and I made peanuts (30k/year).
When COVID hit, gyms were the first to shut down. I got some COVID relief of about 2k a month. With a steady stream of livable expenses and all the time in the world, I decided to teach myself how to code.
freeCodeCamp, Udemy, blogs, documentation, and YouTube, that's all I used to teach myself the basics of HTML, CSS, JS. Built a few projects with React and Firebase, made a portfolio website, and started networking via Meetups. Got an opportunity to interview at a startup within a week.
Went through 3 rounds and they offered me a contract position for 2 months (6500 $/month). I immediately jumped on the chance and worked my ass off for a month. I was offered a full-time gig immediately after and was offered a 75k salary. Since I knew they liked me and needed me, I negotiated for 90k. They countered with 80k since I didn't have any experience. I renegotiated asking if they can review my salary based on my performance after 6 months. They agreed.
I used these 6 months to take initiative and bust my ass off. Basically learned a bunch and took more responsibility from senior devs. I made it a point to meet senior execs once a month and tell them about my work. I was mostly doing this to make sure that my work was not going unnoticed.
It all paid off when my CEO emailed me about the salary raise and set up a meeting. I was expecting a 10% raise at max, 88k was pretty sweet I thought.
Little did I know that he came with a 31% hike, raising my salary to 105k. He acknowledged all the hard work I had put in and told me that he sees me as a part of the team long-term.
I still cannot believe that this is real. This industry has changed my life!! I have met some of the most empathetic, kind, and brilliant people. I cannot wait to see where this journey takes me next!
With out of control Omicron spread, and CDC advising isolation for at least five days, people should be allowed to claim unemployment while their company complies with government advice/requirements.
Many may not have the PTO available to cover this forced time off. Even if they did, they should not be forced to needlessly burn the puny amount of PTO they get.
This could be tied to a verified positive case to curb any concerns with abuse of the program, it just seems fair that if someone is trying to comply with the rules and slow the spread, they should not be financially penalized.
In the latest bout of pro-Covid insanity, Republicans are passing laws to incentivize people to refuse vaccinations. I'm not going to repeat the whole article, but in states in which it is exceedingly hard to get assistance for legitimately losing your job, they are carving out a special class of citizens β mostly Republicans β who get unlimited unemployment benefits as long as they keep refusing to be vaccinated. Our grandkids won't believe this happened.

The need for some families unable to work is great.
It does seem unfair for workers impacted by events to get no assistance, and restaurants to get another round of free help.
They could have gotten 2 PPP and help from the first restaurant revitalization fund.
Now they want a fourth round of help.

Now you would have to qualify for unemployment under the regular UI rules of your state, which in some cases is only 12 weeks.
Just started working again, and have a covid closure, you might not qualify, if your base wages are insufficient.
Amid another Covid surge, schools and businesses find plans disrupted once again
Earlier in the pandemic you could get benefits if you have covid, but that went away. There was also a provision that provided 80 hours of paid sick time for those that got covid, that is also gone.
These particular provisions ended too soon, and now those who get covid, even if they followed the rules and got vaccinated, are losing money.

Portland, Oregon. I've got tattoos covering my arms, hands, neck and part of the left side of my face. Nothing vulgar/obscene/controversial.
I worked for the same door and window company for almost 15 years. Had a great relationship with the owner. Never any employment related issues. Started at the company when I was only one of three non-family members. Company had grown to almost 50 full time employees. Company owner (the dad) passed away last winter and one of his sons had been running things. The wife (different marriage from about 5 years ago) and him had a falling out several months ago and she took over. I never really talked to her but she has always come across as ultra-snobby (maybe religious?) and wants to "change the image" of the company. I often wear slayer and megadeath shirts and in August she announced several policy changes, including a uniform and non-smoking (in company vans or on job sites) policy.
At the beginning of the month she announced a zero tolerance policy for visible tattoos. This affected 3 people including myself. This meeting was on Monday, I was fired that Friday November 5th for "company policy non-compliance/violation." I applied for UI the following Monday (8th) and received notification last week that my application was denied due to "Company policy violation." Is this legal?
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
EDIT: Want to clarify that I did conform to the uniform and smoking policy and was fired because of my tattoos. I did appeal the day I was denied (15th) but have not heard back from anyone. I have kept in touch with the other two employees fired and they were both denied as well.
I am currently considering quitting my full time job nearly after 3 years of continuous burn out. I have also registered voluntarily as a sole trader for my side hustle 6 months ago. The side hustle is more of a hobby and nearly doesnt generate anything to make a living out of it. My question is since I still need to find a proper job, would I be entitled for unemployment benefits even though I have registered a business?
So basically itβs fraudulent, right? Coz Roland lied about his working for him and lovestruck Marnie probably fudges the paperwork.
The combination of factors is really hurting the poor and recently unemployed. Even those who found jobs are often trying to recover from pandemic related economic issue, and inflation in food is impossible to avoid.
Around 35 million people still are rated food insecure.
A slewΒ of factors βΒ including poverty, inflation and CovidΒ βΒ have placedΒ tens of millions of Americans at risk of food insecurity.
It is unfair that someone in Florida will now only get 12 weeks of benefits, when the pandemic still rages on.
If someone suddenly loses a job, it will takes more than 12 weeks to land a position under the best circumstances.
Having only 12 weeks, during a pandemic, is terrible
Why YSK: because, contrary to popular belief, you do not have to be fired or laid off to apply for unemployment benefits. You have to be able to prove the workload demands were unreasonable, but you are allowed to quit and receive unemployment. With droves of people quitting and employers shifting the workload to other employees without adequate compensation, this is important to know.
At the start of the pandemic, I lost my job and applied for unemployment. I was truly in need, received about six months of payments, and they helped out my family tremendously.
About a month or so ago, I received a letter that my state (Washington state) had overpaid me in benefits. Today, I receive another letter that my repayment amount has gone up by 3k with no explanation.
Ive sent mail from my unemployment account, called (there is no one to talk to), and even drove down to the capital to visit to office to only be told that they were still closed due to covid.
I havenβt been given an explanation for why I need to repay. The notices are scary β pay or have a lien placed on your house or have wages garnished.
I just want to bring this to the attention to the antiwork crowd β this is happening to many all over my state and across the country. I have really taken all I can take. I hate this country so much. The best thing about antiwork? You wonβt ever have to beg for scraps, and then have to repay those scraps with no way to repay.
Many of the states that ended pandemic unemployment benefits are expected to allow those who refuse to be vaccinated to collect unemployment benefits.
