A list of puns related to "Unbanded"
So about a week ago, as I was moving stuff around, I inadvertently put two similar looking unbanded cigars together. Looking to avoid that in the future, so was spitballing some ideas. Right now I have thinking I will use a label maker and stick labels on the cello. But open to other ideas as well.
(Lighthearted)
Iβm on my ward-based FY1 rotation and ngl Iβm really feeling the pinch especially as things are opening up again (hence spending more) and locums have completely dried up. I was so excited to finally have money after Med school when I started on my better paid rotations that I spent it all lol.
I wish theyβd distribute pay equally through rotations, why bother to chop and change, surely it would be easier. When you have the money you canβt have a life, and when you have the time you donβt have any money.. (insert grumble about shit nhs pay and disregard for employees)
Just wanted some reassurance that itβs not just me who hasnβt managed to save £££ like many of my colleagues living at home π bring on F2 rotations with heavy out-of-hours π
I am new FY starting in August and i recently received my rota and realised that all of my jobs were unbanded. It seems great because I am only working from 9-5 but I feel like i wouldn't have picked this job had I known that I would only receive the basic pay.
When choosing our jobs we were not told how much we would get paid and we just had to blindly pick our rotations.
Does anyone here have any advice on what I can do about this ?
I'm extremely curious, because I just got a few resistance bands recently, if banded progressions are as good as (if not, better than) traditional leverage progressions?
Keen to hear all opinions!
This morning I got to start off the day with a mystery stick from u/ThisIsMyRobotVoice.
Jace and I agreed on one unbanded cigar accompanied by two bodyguards. He sent me a Viaje β Leaded Double Edge Sword and a RoMa Whiskey Rebellion along with an envelope that is sure to hold all the answers to the mysteries of the world.
I am paring this with a Dr. Pepper and some SuperChief (music) in the morning.
At glance this slightly box pressed robusto is a milk chocolate brown with a bit of tooth on it. I am going with a straight cut and it has a nice smooth draw. Time to put some fire to the foot.
The first few draws I am getting wood notes and plenty of smoke. If I didnβt know any better, I would say we may be just shy of DE levels of smoke. This cigar reminds me a bit of the CAO Flathead series but not as dark. After doing a bit of looking I am thinking this may be a CAO Mx2 but not sure.
Around the first third mark I start to get a sweetness that I canβt put my finger on. So far the mystery cigar is smooth and enjoyable. I mentioned to Jace that I was not a huge pepper fan and this stick is right up my alley.
Around the end of the second third I noticed that there was a small crack in the wrapper, I am guessing where the band was. I find it odd that the majority of cracks I have seen in cigars just so happen to be under the band. Once I had a HdM Epicure 2 and I couldnβt figure out for the life of me why it would not draw, come to find out there was a piece of the wrapper missing under the band, once I plugged that hole I was able to enjoy it.
And the mystery isβ¦β¦ La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor!
All in all the cigar was enjoyable but not very complex. I would definitely smoke another one.
Thank you Jace for the experience, it was fun to try and guess what it was throughout the smoke, I hope you enjoy your side as well.
iβll be getting out the splint and the rubber hands tying my jaws shut this coming wednesday, when itβll have been 18 days post-op (double jaw surgery). i was wondering, how much were you able to open your mouth when you were unbanded? how did it feel? the sudden and probably irrational fear of my jaw muscles not responding and not being able to open my mouth just gripped me.
i know that thereβs muscle loss so I wonβt be able to open my mouth much, but could you fit a spoon into your mouth? drink from a cup? iβve been drinking from a syringe and while iβve gotten used to it, iβd much rather not use it.
iβve also grown tired of the liquid diet: iβve been drinking ensure milk, soups, juices and smoothies over the past two weeks. i miss solid food so badly. iβm guessing i still wonβt be able to chew for a while but what soft food can i have once iβm unbanded? anything youβd recommend? iβve been craving mashed potatoes for a while. what soft food did you eat and/ or enjoy? i know iβll probably be advised by my surgeon but iβm curious about othersβ experiences and suggestions and iβd also like to know what to expect so i donβt get my hopes up too high for wednesday!
Nik gave me this at our first herf back in September. I can't for the life of me remember what it was, now that I'm getting around to labelling everything.
It's the unbanded lance with the point on the end (is there a name for that?)-

If not, I should probably smoke it, for science.
edit: yes I've asked Nik, he has no memory. What would have been floating around last summer regularly?
Would anyone be interested in trading an unbanded cigar with the intentions of writing an review then taking a guess at what the cigar was and its wrapper, binder and filler?
Once the review is posted I would reply with a photo of the cigar before the band is removed to see how close the reviewer is.
Since it is a trade I would do the same with the return.
I am thinking the unbanded cigar plus two bodyguards to keep it company on the trip.
Does this sound like fun to anyone?
I just discovered cigarbid.com. It took me a total of about 5 min to make my first purchase in the "freefall" section.
Now I'm looking at this auction - http://www.cigarbid.com/Auction/Lot/1262627/Nicaraguan-90-Rated-2nds-Toro-Mazo-of-15/
It looks to be an unbeatable deal (I'm a big fan of Nicaraguan cigars), But I've never heard of 2nds before and wanted to see if anyone here has purchased them before.
So, GF and I were choosing cigars for Friday night, and she asked, "Do you have any contests going on now?" And I told her about the blind cigar review contest, and chose an unbanded mystery cigar I got with a Small Batch order some months ago - if you bought a five or six cigar sampler, you got an unrelased Caldwell cigar as a bonus; so I DO know that it's a Caldwell cigar, but I don't know anything about the blend, wrapper, vitola, etc.
I put it next to a known Warped La Hacienda Corona Gorda at 5.62x46, and estimated the length to be 5.75 or 6". I guess I could have measured it, but I had another cigar with me of known dimensions, and did not have a ruler or tape measure, so this was lazier easier. I guesstimated the ring gauge to be about a 52 in my traveldor, but in holding it in my hand and then in my mouth, I'm thinking it was more of a 54 or 56.
Pre-light draw was hay and a little barnyard (a clean barnyard, not a manure smell) and specifically this sweet hay called Sweet Timothy Hay that I used to feed to my pet rabbits when I had them. Cap had a tight little pig tail. Wrapper was light to medium brown in color, and had some moderately sized veins. No big honkers, but some medium sized ones.
Used a punch to punch the cap and pigtail, and toasted it with a Jet Line triple flame torch.
First third had a surprising peppery flavor, that I wasn't expecting from such a light brown wrapper, so my first thought was that it was a Habano wrapper, since I usually get pepper from those. I held it up next to GF's known Connecticut wrapped cigar, and it was definitely darker than her Connecticut.
Second third the pepper abruptly disappeared, like one puff it was there and literally the next puff it was not, and this pleasant, mild nutty taste emerged. Almost milder than nuts, more like unsalted shelled sunflower seeds.
Third third a spicy flavor emerged, not like the pepper from the first third, but a more flavorful and less peppery spice, but that only lasted the first half of the third third (the fifth sixth?); the second half of the third third (the sixth sixth?) returned to the sunflower seed flavor of the second third.
Overall, a very good cigar with good flavors, decent complexity, and excellent construction and burn. No touch-ups or rotation were required; the veins that were present did not cause any problems.
Would I buy it or smoke it again? Don't know if I can. If these were unreleased, they may never be made again or ever off
... keep reading on reddit β‘Hey r/cigars, I have an update on the sampler and something to say, let's talk.
I decided to see what that 20 for $20 sampler had, I picked out an unbanded Nicaraguan (At least I think it was). It had a slightly tapered figurado head that made for easy handling. I can't find out what it was on the website. Anyway, it had a superb burn and great depth and nice tobacco flavor, I enjoyed it more than some of the expensive cigars I've had recently. This unassuming unbanded cigar which I got for only $1 proved to be excellent. In short, don't just a cigar by it's band or lack their of.
Also, A representative for La Aurora said on camera that he prefers a smaller ring gauge like a corona or a lonsdale because of the ratio of wrapper to filler/binder being different than in larger cigars. When you are not smoking so much filler/binder you taste more of the wrapper and it makes for a great smoke. The problem is many people scoff at coronas and thinner ring gauge cigars because they believe bigger cigars taste better which is not always the case. Coronas were the first size cigar I started smoking so it's always been something special to me. I guess that's why.
Your thoughts, r/cigars?
This question might be extremely specific, or it may be applicable to many different records... I don't know.
I have been wondering about this for a while, on this page they state that the quality of the banded first pressing of Strictly Personal is superior to the unbanded first pressing. What are the identifying factors? I'm guessing that it is something very obvious that I am blanking on.
http://www.beefheart.com/datharp/albums/official/strictpers.htm
The reason I ask is because I finally purchased a copy for myself. It hasn't come in the mail yet, but here is the auction listing if anyone can help with identifying from those photos.

Obviously banded would be preferred... but I'm guessing its unbanded since they seem to be more common. I'm just happy to own a first pressing of this album.
Anyways, thanks for any help that is provided.
