What do you mean 'Pre-Recession'?
After the year 2000, but before the economic recession of 2008, GM was making some weird cars. Retro styled cars, cars with high performance trims (for seemingly no reason), cars with LS motors mounted sideways, and of course, Saabs.
Why these cars came about is complex. If somebody is willing to offer a theory, I'm all ears. However, I'm not here to explore the roots of this issue, only what fruit it ended up bearing. While many of these cars may have continued production after the recession of 2008-2010, most if not all were born of the white heat of stupidity that lost GM $82 billion before this time. I say stupidity of course, because most of the following vehicles I would like to own one day.
The GMT360 Platform
Platform sharing is a common thing to do in the auto industry, especially in the United States. A good example is Ford's Crown Victoria, a car that had two other nearly identical siblings sold by Lincoln and Mercury (three if you include the P71). I don't think three cars on a single platform is unreasonable.
What about seven?
The GMT360 family is as follows:
Buick Rainer
Chevrolet Trailblazer
Saab 9-7x
Oldsmobile Bravada
Isuzu Ascender
GMC Envoy
Chevrolet SSR
Some of these cars stand out, primarily the SSR. It is the only vehicle that is not a mid-sized SUV. When I say "all of these cars", I'm not going to include the SSR (it will get its own article). All of the other vehicles in this class are nearly the same. The only quirks that make a few of them stand out are the engine options.
All of these cars were available with GM's LL8, a 4.2 liter, naturally aspirated, DOHC inline-six producing 273 horsepower, and about the same torque. All but one (the Olds Bravada (sad in both appearance an demeanor)) is also available with a 5.3 liter third-gen SBC, producing about 300 horsepower, and 330 ft/lbs of torque (there were several updates to this engine over the course of it's production, so I'm paraphrasing a bit here).
Although it's cool you could get a small V8 in a mid-sized SUV at the time (I would kill for this now), it gets cooler. Available in two of these cars (the 9-7x Aero and the Trailblazer SS) was the 6.0 liter, four-hundred horsepower LS2.
The Trailblazer SS
The Trailblazer SS could be had in either a base, 2WD trim (starting at $33,600), or a higher level 4WD trim (starting at $39,200). Unlike many other GM 'SS' vehicles of th

I say stupidity of course, because most of the following vehicles I would like to own one day.
The Chevy Malibu Maxx
The Chevy Malibu was a very normal car for GM. Sharing the Epsilon platform with seven other cars (not including the extended wheelbase vehicles), it was a mid-sized, front-wheel-drive sedan offered with a 2.2 liter four cylinder, or 3.5 liter six cylinder. It initially had a center chrome strip along the entire front fascia. This was to make it look more like GM's trucks, because they apparently believed this was the secret to their impressive sales. It was thankfully removed when the Malibu was facelifted.
The Malibu came in either a regular sedan variant, or a very strange looking hatchback called the Maxx.
The rear end of the Maxx looks... uncertain of itself. I'm guessing they stopped the roofline a few inches short of the rear fascia so they could use the same taillights as the sedan. Interestingly, the Maxx could be had with not one, not two, but three sunroofs.
Each rear passenger got their own 'skylight', that could be obscured with a sunshade. I say 'skylight' because they couldn't open. The rear seats also slid back and forth and reclined, with a choice of three positions. With the nicer upholstery options, the back seat of this car was probably the best spot in the house. The center armrest looks pretty soft--nice and wide. The rear legroom was measured at 41 inches, only two inches shy of a new S-class Benz. This would probably make a great Uber or Lyft car, actually.
The Chevy Malibu Maxx SS
In 2006, of course, [this car got an SS trim](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi

The Chevrolet SSR
I know the intro blurb says I'm not going to explore the roots of the issue, but it doesn't say anything about wild speculation. I like to think that the SSR made a lot of sense.
"We're making retro-styled cars. We're also selling a lot of pickup trucks. Lets make a retro styled pickup!"
"Okay!"
"We can't just style all our pickups like that though. It would be a huge risk. We should make it lower volume."
"Right!"
"To save some money, why don't we put it on the GMT360 platform. We already make like eleven other cars on that platform."
"Sounds good."
"But the GMT platform isn't really rugged like a pickup frame... So it cant be like, an actual truck. What if its more of a street machine, like a lowered truck?"
"Yeah that makes sense."
"If we're making a lowered street machine, maybe we can attract some Corvette buyers and weekenders if it's a convertible. A hard top convertible, though. Has to look like a regular truck."
"Sure."
"Right, and we already put a few V8s in cars on this platform, so why not have a V8?"
"Of course."
"So we're making a retro-styled, convertible, pickup truck sports car, on the GMT360 platform, with a V8.
"...We are?"
"Yeah, look. It's rolling off the assembly line right now."
...
The Red Headed Stepchild of the GMT360 Family
The GMT360 platform is actually a little wider in scope than I first let on. Really, it's not seven cars. It's twelve. If you include the SSR, and the Isuzu Ascender's seven passenger variant, the GMC Envoy XL, the GMC Envoy XUV (the weird looking one), and the Chevy Trailblazer EXT, it's a full dozen.
The SSR's underpinnings are most closely related to the se

The Children of the LS4
I'm sure many of you are familiar with the LS4; If you are not...
The LS4 is a 5.3 liter, sideways version of the Gen. 4 smallblock. Its sideways because it drives the front wheels. It's aluminium, it has Gen. 3 LS6 heads, and the water pump is located remotely, which means it has a funny looking manifold to connect it back up to the engine.
It makes 303 horsepower, and 323 lb/ft of torque. It's not a ton of power, but it's still an LS (right?). It was available in four cars, some weirder than others, but they all have front-wheel-drive LS', so they all kinda qualify. They are the children of the LS4.
The LS4 debuted in the 7th generation Pontiac Grand Prix (the GXP trim). In every application, it was mated to the four-speed, 4T65E tranmission. In order to create this gearbox, GM spent years in development perfecting the art of making a transmission out of glass. It's notoriously fragile, even on stock levels of power. In order to harness the raw power of the LS4 more effectively, the GXP's transmission had paddle shifters called, "TAPshift".
Projected onto the windscreen was a bright green HUD that displayed various performance information (pretty cool for '06) including G forces and your current speed. The car got vented, cross drilled brake discs with better calipers, and new suspension that was half an inch lower.
As with other performance GM models of the period, it got new front and rear fascias, as well as cooling vents on the front and rear fenders. Spicy. Also tacked on

It's been haunting me ever since they started playing Christmas music, its a version that sounds pop esque, female vocals , and the song just gets weirder sounding as it goes on, like how day 11 just gets really echoey
its a very weird question but my words cant explain to my friends how weird this cover is that I just need to show them
Can you only get the 12 day items if you spend $50 or can you purchase them separately? There are 3 figures that I really want but not sure I want to spend $150 right now (since I am going to spend 4x that amount on Bones V).
I like the Dragon Hoard, Wrapping Dragon and Cat Dragon in the tree. I know I can spend $50 for one figure, just wondering how to get the others.
Thanks.
....and not a single one of them is in fucking November.
:edit: overheard at a gas station line. figured I would share.
I am having extremely serious Javascript fatigue from being a daytime webdev and I am learning Rust to make myself more powerful.
When I went to do this exercise:
> Print the lyrics to the Christmas carol โThe Twelve Days of Christmas,โ taking advantage of the repetition in the song.
I first wrote it recursively in Javascript. It was comfy and easy. Learning Rust is making me regret putting all my skillpoints in one basket for so long, but I have a working solution now that I am posting for feedback. Thanks for pointing your eyes!
