A list of puns related to "Tudor History"
"One of the wives had a son" is banned as an answer because all are overused (I'm guilty of that) ((Although I don't think anyone's mentioned Katherine Parr or Anne of Cleves having a son? You could go for that if you want))
I think I've read most of them but there must be some I've missed, LOL. Please recommend some. Medieval, Tudor, Monarchs, Czars, etc... More non fiction than not. Thanks!!
Personally I think the life of lady Margaret Pole has been completely overlooked. She had (arguably) a stronger claim to the throne than the Tudors. She comes from royalty yet has led one of the most tragic lives. Iβd like to hear people who you think are not given enough recognition for their colourful/eventful lives.
What is your experience of these if you have taken them?
To accompany economics, maths and further maths.
Iβm not sure what I want to take for a degree but likely something in the social sciences such as econ/ppe/law.
I got 9s in all 3 for gcse so Iβm not better at any one than the other.
I really struggled with the Series challenge about Elizabeth I making her famous speech at Tilbury. (If you don't know, in this speech, Elizabeth inspired her men to their famous defeat of the Spanish Armada. She was a kick-ass queen who refused to yield her power by marrying.) Of course, there were gorgeous options available, but even with borrowing, those options plus the jewelry would have cost me about half my cash! No way was I going to do that.
So why can't the other options be reasonable for the challenge? Two sleeveless dresses, one of which cost $3K and would have looked terrible with the necklaces, and a duster? Really? Even if you don't imagine the woman as from the Tudor era, who makes a speech in a duster? And of course, if you're invested in doing the whole series, you aren't just going to skip this challenge. I feel like at times Covet makes the cheaper choices bad to pressure you into the expensive ones.
On the plus side, paired with red hair, the model's makeup really does kind of look like Elizabeth! I really wanted to put her in the Tudor clothing! But in the end, I borrowed one of the other dresses and bought the lovely tulip jewelry. I doubt I will do very well, but at least I am still in the series. π
I saved a photo before I submitted my look to include with this post, but I can't figure out how to attach it. Oh well.
OK, my first Covet rant is over!
If theres any pdfs of books that arent from zlibrary or pdfdrive as i have everything of there that would be awesome
Anything else that has helped people study or will be useful
Hey guys, this is really just out of curiosity but Iβve found in many media portrayals of the Tudor era (not always the most reliable, I know), there is a trope that when a woman miscarries, the people at the time basically accuse her of having a miscarriage on purpose (the most common being Henry VIII and his courtiers alleging/insisting that Catherine of Aragon and/or Anne Boleyn intentionally miscarried out of spite or anger).
I was wondering if there is any historical basis for this? Did people in the Tudor era really believe this was something women were capable of, willing a miscarriage?
TL;DR: Though Iβm certain people throughout history have been (whether falsely or accurately) accused of inducing a miscarriage through medicinal means, was there really a time when people believed this was something women could just force to happen by willpower? Or is this an invention of cinema?
(Sorry for the ramble and I apologise if itβs a daft question. Iβm a little tired. Iβm just very curious aha).
Hope youβre all having a great week βΊοΈ
title sums it up really. got a B on a recent mock and i would like to know of any book recommendations or other sources to help revise and improve my grade.
Iβm obsessed with the Tudor reign; itβs perhaps my favourite historical era to research and study. Iβm doing a history minor (U1) and was wondering if there are any courses that discuss this time period, or the Middle Ages in Europe. Anything close to this time era within England would also be great!
Iβve recently expanded my interest into the alternate history realm. I have read βThe Six Lives of Henry VIIIβ by Leigh Jenkins, as well as the Boleyn trilogy by Laura Anderson. I would absolutely LOVE to read more- do you have any suggestions for me?
I think she would prefer a fictional story. Books that she enjoyed were all by Kiera Kass and Victoria Aveyard. Anyone has a gift idea? I think it would be cool if it was somehow historically accurate but it isnβt a must :)
