Would we as humans be able to transcend our biology and if so to which degree should we allow it to take place?

At a very fundamental level the human species is nothing more than a large herd of irrational apes.

Most of us are anxiously driven by the consumption model that is ingrained in our society,
which is not weird considering the mental & physical burdens we all have to carry in order to manage a sustainable life.

As a nihilist I don't think the human race has any big role in this universe, but that doesn't mean I don't find the human condition to be intriguing & fascinating because I very much do.

I think being alive is very special but at the same time, our biology is very tricky.

Most of our daily actions & aspirations are driven by our primitive survival instincts, which isn't necessarily a bad thing unless you're not aware of it. Because this also the place where conflict arises, feelings of doubt, fear, selfishness, uncertainty, jealousy, anger, hatred, aggression etc.

At our current day of age we are nowhere near of understanding the complexities of our own brain so this is all still very hypothetical.

But if doctors would ever fully understand the capabilities of the human brain, and therefore would be able to fully numb certain circuits or fully control certain thoughts or impulses, to which extent should we as a society allow it to take place?

The idea of "numbing" or "controlling" might sound very conflicting with the ethics of being human and the idea personal expression.

But if the concept of destruction as well as creation is inherent in our nature, should we still allow these tendencies to persist when we would have the option of filtering them out?

I don't think there's a right or wrong answer, but I do feel that the world would be better of with less selfishness and hatred & more compassion and empathy towards one another.

THE LAW OFF ATTRACTION WORKS!!! Here's why you shouldn't use it.

So I'm not going to tell anyone what to do or what not to do, but these are some points that may be worth inquiring into. The law of attraction is a psychological phenomenon in which one can reprogram their subconscious mind by producing the feeling within themselves as if they had already achieved their desire, through methods such as conscious affirmations, visualizations, etc. Once this is done they can go about their day with the happiness and confidence required to manifest these desires into a reality. While this phenomenon can certainly work for its intended purpose and is a phase many people go through on their spiritual journey, and it can be an appropriate phase, it can at one point begin to actually hinder on liberation. The reason I say this is because this law promotes some kind of attachment to material desire or outcome. One's happiness is still subtly depending on what goes on around them and not within them. You might say "but its not, the happiness was created before the outcome". While this is technically true, that happiness is only brought about by imagining that outcome, convincing yourself of that outcome. thus still subtly depending on it. If I am sad now because I am single, and I trick the subconscious into thinking I already have a loving partner, I am really just replacing an unpleasant illusion with a pleasant illusion, it is not "true happiness", true liberation. It can turn into another form of running away from the what is, looking for happiness "out there". I would suggest rather being with your current situation, feelings, thoughts, so totally, without trying to run, distracting yourself, identifying with them, labelling them; just be with them so totally that in that awareness they dissolve. To fully understand the process of desire, the process of mind, not only on an intellectual understanding but experientially, is to then be liberated from it. Then perhaps manifestation will happen, life will take care of life. Action may still take place, but it will not be so pre-conditioned by some idea, it will be direct, spontaneous. So maybe it produces what appears to be a similar result, but the differences in the implications of the "method" (I would not call the latter any kind of method at all however), actually make the biggest difference in true liberation altogether. I'm not against having nice "things", but if we are rich, we should enjoy richness fully, if we are poor we should enjoy poorness fully. Either way then, yo

I Took My Influential Nazi Conspiracist Dad to a Family Therapist: This Is What I've Learned About Conspiracism in America

This is the script of a video essay I posted on YouTube for the one-year anniversary of the January 6 insurrection, which also happened to be my 30th birthday. The essay covers my dad's career as a prominent force behind the scenes in American conspiracism for the last 20 years, and it's inspired by the stories I found here on QAnonCasualties. I hope it can help people understand what's going on in the hearts and minds of their Qs and what we can do to fix what's happening in our country.

You can find the video essay itself on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/5-bDdogszyI

My Dad

My dad refuses to wear a mask. He can manage leaving it drooping under his nose when he sees a sign outside a store, but he’s unwilling under any circumstances to let it cover his face. Naturally, he’ll never get vaccinated either. So, to stay in line with state mandates, the family therapist he had agreed to meet at my request needed to get creative.

I made the hour-and-a-half drive back to my hometown to pick my dad up on a fall afternoon, and, for the first time in nearly a year, we spoke together on our way to the park where the therapist was waiting. Once there, she led us to a pair of wooden benches, far enough from the paved path to keep us from being overheard but still able to see grad students jogging with their dogs and retirees taking an afternoon walk.

This was family therapy in the time of COVID. A few sandwiches short of a picnic, confronting the culmination of my father’s 20-year career as an influential conspiracy theorist.

My dad’s life story is a diorama of the Boomer experience. He grew up in California’s 50s and 60s, the son of an abusive father, with no ideology until he decided to prove himself by joining the army during the Vietnam War. Between basic training and receiving his first deployment, he befriended a hippie college student who first flipped the switch on his political awareness as an anti-war liberal.

He went AWOL, running away to Canada, on the way meeting a young woman who was herself on the road with a carnie from her home in the midwest. Leaving the military and carnie boyfriend behind, the two settled north of the border for a while before returning to his wife’s home state as a married couple.

Back then he was a skinny, bearded vagabond and fiddle player, but after having his daughter and divorcing his first wife, he wanted to get an education. He picked what looked like an interesting bachelor's de

An Outcast In Another World (Subtitle: Is 'Insanity' A Racial Trait?) [Fantasy, LitRPG] - Chapter 95 (Book 3 Chapter 23) (PART 2)

It was grotesque in every sense of the word.

Ragnavi shriveled her nose in disgust as the Blight's miasmic stench assaulted her senses. The more she examined it, the more she regretted how cavalier she'd been in suppressing their uprising. Nothing that offended her sensibilities to that degree should be allowed to exist in this world.

She welcomed the distractions from its hideous visage that soon followed. To her bewilderment, the Blight was perched on top of an enormous spherical barrier that covered the entirety of the old Human city. The barrier consisted of a type of magic she'd never Sensed before, yet based on the way it continuously burnt away the Blight's flesh, seemed constructed specifically to repel them.

Her mind racing, Ragnavi flew closer to get a better look at the barrier, the Blight momentarily forgotten. Had one of the other races created this magic without her knowledge? Surely they wouldn't have been be so petty as to invent an anti-Blight spell and keep its existence a secret from the rest of Elatra. Tylrud's teeth, not even she herself was that petty. Ragnavi activated Hawkeye's Vision and magnified her eyesight tenfold, hoping to glean some physical insight from the barrier that her magical senses were unable to.

For the third time in so many minutes, Ragnavi was struck speechless. Through the barrier's translucent exterior, she could see people scampering around inside the Human city, stampeding like they were a panicked mob running for their lives. Most were Elves, but some were Fiends. Fiends. Members of both races ran next to each other without complaint, and several of them were mingling with each other. By talking.

How the fuck. Ragnavi shook her head. I believe I've found your Deserters, Sylpeiros. And they've committed a greater betrayal than you could possibly imagine.

She flew closer, making sure to keep a safe distance away from the Blight. If Sylpeiros' turncoats were here, then the Human was probably with them, although the presence of Fiends muddied that possibility. Wouldn't the Human and Fiends have attempted to kill each other on sight? Granted, the Elves and Fiends should be tearing each other to ribbons instead conversing as allies, so this was clearly a situation where logic was to be hidden in a shelter and let out only when the world made sense again.

All of a sudden, her nostrils flared as the Blight's stench intensified. The abomination's thousand of centipede-esque legs be

TAEMIN is the definitive King of K-Pop and it's time everybody properly acknowledged it

Now to start- I know that it's an extremely competitive and (over)saturated space, but the verdict is pretty damn clear if we just simply lay everything out on the table to examine in the most objective view possible with all aspects of inflation (numbers; sales, streams, charts, views, etc) set aside from the main factor of pure raw influence.

As often stated, "literally nobody is doing it like him." Not a single other soul in this same way.

    • I could and would honestly need to make a whole 'nother post to cover even a fraction of their impact in complimentary to my argument for why I believe they're the true owners of the "Kings of K-Pop" group title, but basically to put it concisely for here- Taemin coming out of SHINee is like Michael Jackson coming out of The Jackson 5 but on another level.

Serious post about Sufjan's year end recommendations

Hi everyone, I know many of us enjoyed how absurd/outrageous/tangential Sufjan's year end lists were--I know I did!--but I've also since been listening to some of his genuine recommendations (albums that aren't actually movies or books he mentioned, lol). I hope this isn't too adjacent, but I wanted to talk about 2 of his recommendations that I've since been listening to for the 1st time, and am absolutely loving:

  1. Up by Peter Gabriel
  2. Keyboard Fantasies by Beverly-Glenn Copeland

Up by Peter Gabriel. I'm sure we all know his work to some degree; I was absolutely wild about the album So at the time it was released, but he really fell off my radar for a long time (decades). I had a faulty or at least incomplete impression that a lot of his later music was 'easy listening.' This album is really a sonic delight and very elegant in its wisdom. The songs are somehow both lush and spare. They tend to emphasize drum/base, and voice. The middle seems almost carved out, but in a good way. It's like the drums and voice are just symbolizing heart and breath--just the essentials to human functioning. And yet, as fundamental or almost basic as the arrangements are, the song construction and melodies are complex and rich. He's really dealing here in some gorgeous and beautiful contrasts; at many points the way he balances all the tensions reminds me of aspects of The Ascension. For example on the songs 'I Grieve' (which changes tempo; changes from minor to major key—as happens in “Tell Me You love Me”; or on 'Sky Blue' where the lyrics at first listening seem simple (but they're not; the whole album is deeply symbolic/deeply Jungian), or in the way “More than This” builds up.

Keyboard Fantasies by Beverly-Glenn Copeland. This is a wild one to talk about. This album was originally released in 1984, sold ~50 copies and faded into absolute obscurity. About 4 years ago, a Japanese record store owner had found a copy and wrote to Beverly-Glenn to ask if he had more. He did, because they never sold. The Japanese record store sold something like 100+ copies in a few weeks, and suddenly indie record labels were clamoring. After decades of silence! Beverly-Glenn is a Black American raised Quaker, but who has long since become a Buddhist, has been living in Canada for 50 years, identifies as trans, and is, at present , 74 years old. Keyboard Fantasies was remastered by his new label on its re-release; and a tribute/cover album was just released with a ton of indie

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

A Summary of Flavius Josephus on Jesus: An Independent First Century Source of Jesus of Nazareth and John the Baptist Outside of Bible

Josephus is typically seen as having referenced Jesus of Nazareth twice in his book Antiquities (93/94 C.E.). While the reference to Jesus in Antiquities 18 as we have it now has probably been doctored by a later Christian scribe in a couple or a few areas, most of the passage as we have preserved now is authentic, according to most critical scholars (though the tone of the passage has been debated upon). Paula Fredriksen for example says in her book Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews (1999):

>"Most scholars currently incline to see the passage as basically authentic, with a few later insertions by a Christian scribe."

Likewise, Fredriksen reverberates something similar about the state of scholarship in her 2018 book, where she assumes that most take the TF (the Testimonium Flavianum) as authentic in it's core:

>"... most (though not all) scholars assume that Josephus’ originally brief notice on Jesus has been partially rewritten by later Christian scribes."

(Paula Fredriksen, When Christians Were Jews: The First Generation, Yale University Press, 2018, pp. 80-81)

Bart Ehrman likewise says in his book Did Jesus Exist? (HarperCollins, 2012):

>The big question is whether a Christian scribe (or scribes) simply added a few choice Christian additions to the passage or whether the entire thing was produced by a Christian and inserted in an appropriate place in Josephus’s Antiquities. The majority of scholars of early Judaism, and experts on Josephus, think that it was the former—that one or more Christian scribes “touched up” the passage a bit (pp. 49, emphasis mine).

Regarding the reference to Jesus in book 20, Alice Whealey writes,

>". . . Josephus’s passage about James the brother of Jesus (Ant. 20.200), the authenticity of which is in any case accepted by most contemporary scholars . . ."

(Alice Whealey, "The Testimonium Flavianum" in A Companion to Josephus, Honora Howell Chapman; Zuleika Rodgers, Wiley Blackwell, 2016, pp. 353).

[WP] You are a student in the most prestigious magic academy in the kingdom. No one knows how you got in, sure you have amazing magic potential, but you’re “magic blind” meaning you can only feel the presence of magic and not see any magic. [Part 32]

I could see Atlas's lips moving as he started toward Leo, but I couldn't tell if he was speaking or if he was casting. I heard a clap next to me and turned to see Axle with his hands clasped in front of him. He was attempting to zero in on Atlas.

"Any luck?" I asked.

"Rrgg... No dice. Too many people here. Even trying to narrow it down to just him feels hopeless," he said as he leaned back in his chair. "We'll have to ask him ourselves after the fact."

"They're definitely having a conversation right now," Fena said as she leaned forward. "I wish we could hear."

"If you want," I offered. "I was invited to watch from the cages. We could go down there. Maybe we'd be close enough."

"No way," Axle shook his head. "I don't want to be anywhere close to what's about to happen down there."

"The glass is warded," I countered.

"So was the glass in the hymnasium," he shot back. "The headmasters thought it would be a better idea to kill him."

"Is he... really that powerful?" Asked the girl behind us. "Leo is ranked number one in his school. He's favored to win from what I hear."

"Just watch," Fena said as she stared intently into the arena. "Whatever's about to happen... you'll never forget it as long as you live."

Suddenly, Atlas lifted his arm toward Leo. We all watched with bated breath as he held his hand out, seemingly for a handshake.

"Is he... trying to shake hands with Leo?" Axle asked.

"His magic has settled down," I reported. "It seems like he's calmed himself. What is he doing?"

Leo reached forward as though he were about to shake hands with Atlas, then his arm quickly shot forward and he picked him up by his throat. All of us lurched forward and the crowd gasped as Leo lifted Atlas off the ground. Atlas grasped at Leo's hands and kicked his legs as Leo began saying something to him.

"He's about to cast something point blank!" I screamed. "What was Atlas thinking??"

"Can he cast kinetically??" Axle yelled.

"No!" Fena shouted back. "He's a verbal caster! If Leo has him tightly enough..."

I gritted my teeth as I watched him squirm. Leo wasn't casting though; he was speaking something really close to Atlas's face– likely taunting him. Atlas's heart really was too big for this. Had he attempted to crush the grudge before the battle? To make amends first for a clean fight? The crowd began to rain boo's down upon Leo as he strutted around the arena holding Atlas by his throat. He held his free hand to his ear and smirked at everyone before t

The question of Sephiroth's Identity (Ore vs Watashi) was present in the Original game - Ultimania Discussion #2

I have decided to post important Tidbits for the Ultimania books that may have been overlooked by much of the fandom. This is post #2.

Previous Post: Cloud and Sephiroth Carry the Burden of the "Universe of Creation & Destruction" - FF7R Materials Ultimania Discussion

In the Final Fantasy VII Remake Ultimania (the first one they released) , in the section discussing the 4 different ways Sephiroth manifests himself, it mentions that the Sephiroth at the Edge of Creation addresses himself in a peculiar way:

>IMPORTANT NOTE FROM THE BOOK: THIS Sephiroth addresses himself as "ore 俺" (me) instead of "watashi 私," which is the pronoun he used 5 years BEFORE he met Jenova...
>
> https://twitter.com/aitaikimochi/status/1256221924532916228?s=20 (thanks /u/aitaikimochi)

Many have speculated that this means that Sephiroth is currently not under the spell of JENOVA and instead has maintained his own original identity. We'll explore what this could mean later. However, I want to point out that this development of Sephiroth starting off using "ore", then using "watashi" after his JENOVA awakening, and then here at the EOC suddenly reverting back to "ore" is not actually a new concept. FF7 OG also seems to have had this distinction in mind. Thanks to u/TurquoiseHammer for his amazing translations of the FF7OG Ultimania Omega. See below for an important excerpt:

The Eldwurms in Dota dragon blood super LORE.(warning long post)TLDR at bottom

>People seem to thinks that Eldwurms maybe not as important in dota lore, compare to the like of Elder Titan or The Fundamental, or at least in game origin lore which I can see. Some might lead to believe that the 8 Thunder Eldwurm maybe just The "fundamental avatar" but there maybe something deeper than that. To put on a perspective of what 8 thunder are in dragon blood. First we need to know what the writers of the series thought about the 8 thunder and dota lore in general.

Ashley miller the show Creator state in twitter that Ddb drove the game to add marci in, but have no control over it, Valve decide it same with davion persona, thus you can say maybe not all Ddb are cannon but I'll suggest otherwise. All davion persona line have pretty much stay consistent with the show, and it feat and cosmology. But nothing that in Ddb have "contradict the the source materials" and this for concept of cannon for a fun read.

This is the beginning of the jouney to understand The 8 Thunders. First we need to understand these concept.

Am I Being Honest? (Feat. Joshu, Linji, & Foyan)

A word of warning: This is a hell of a lot of useless information about someone you’ll probably never meet.

97 >A monk asked, “What is the fact of ‘handing on the robe’?”

>The master said, “Don’t deceive yourself”.

(From Green’s The Recorded Sayings of Zen Master Joshu, as usual.)

For the better part of two years, I’ve had a wonderful time studying the Zen tradition, reading from one text or another almost daily. It’s become one of the most important things to me in the world. However, I’ve recently felt a new sense of impatience, even frustration, when reading Zen texts, and I think it’s because I feel like I shouldn’t be tripping over myself this much after reading and engaging with so much material.

Don’t get me wrong; I can think of a million rote answers to the question, What is the Way? I find many of them both beautiful and personally meaningful. But they aren’t mine. When I answer that question, it is always an experiment, never something certain; it never feels like it comes from something foundational within myself, an understanding or otherwise. Like Linji says, it’s just like different clothes I’m putting on and taking off. Here’s the passage I’m referencing, from J.C. Cleary’s The Recorded Sayings of Linji:

>When someone comes seeking, I go out and look at him, but he does not recognize me. I then put on various kinds of ‘clothes’. Students give birth to interpretations, and always go for my words. How painful! Blind monks and people without eyes take the clothes I am wearing and recognize them as blue, yellow, red, white. I take them off and enter into the realm of purity. As soon as the students see this, they feel happiness and desire. When I take off [the garment of purity] too, students lose heart, and run off in crazy confusion saying I have no clothes. I say to them: Do you recognize the person in me who is putting on the clothes? Suddenly they turn their heads around and they recognize me. “Good people, do not accept the ‘clothes’ [as the person]. The clothes cannot move: it’s the person who puts them on. There is the garment of purity, the garment of birthlessness, the garment of bodhi, the garment of nirvana, the garments of the buddhas and patriarchs. Whatever has to do with words and names and phrases and texts is all a matter of changing ‘clothes’. Words are formed by being brought forth from the ocean of vital energy at the navel and coming out through the teeth. Obviously they are all illusory transformation

Ryze's 11.24 Build Paths

TLDR: I created a system to judge item strength involving kiting, HP, and cost as DPS modifications (I call it a "combat score"). I look at some possible 2-item and 3-item build paths. I also looked at Crown vs. Everfrost as well as Seraph's vs. Fimbulwinter. There are pure DPS charts at the bottom. The graphs/charts summarize results, but they may not make sense without reading the context.

NOTE: You will most likely need to open the charts/graphs in a new tab so that they are legible.

--------------------------------

I've been exploring potential S12 build paths for Ryze. Assuming that 11.24 is completely locked in, an item hierarchy is tentatively taking shape.

There are a lot of different factors that are (and aren't) included, and I'll try to cover as much as I can.

I chose to stop at 3 items, because that covers the vast majority of games. If there is some item combo that isn't mentioned, let me know and I will include it for a future post (I want to compare based on fight duration and enemy DPS later on).

--------------------------------

Relative Stat Values: AH and Magic Penetration vs. AP

First of all, I want to talk about the relative value of combat stats. Items have shifted power from AP to AH, HP and Magic Penetration.

A lot of people, including myself in previous posts, use gold value as a rough substitute for combat power. However, as soon as I deliberately tested that assumption, it fell apart. Relative to other stats, AP ends up being a lot worse than gold value would suggest.

https://preview.redd.it/2cy3jzrb29381.png?width=1392&format=png&auto=webp&s=39968b2c2af45f5d7353393e233924130373bf8d

The graph above shows the marginal increase from 1 AP and 1 AH for Ryze's DPS (I'm using EQs cast off-cooldown as well as Ws cast for a rough measurement). If Ryze kites more in between casts, the value of AH is reduced (since cooldown reduction removes a smaller portion of the total downtime).

If we go by relative gold value (26.67 for AH & 21.75 for AP), the expected marginal increase should be at the large red dot. However, Ryze is not going to kite for 2.5 seconds on top of the actual E/W cooldowns during combat, especially with his current durability. If you look at items (like new vs. old Seraph's) through the lens of gold efficiency, AH is undervalued. This is even more applicable to other champions; Ryze is a poor AH user (in terms of its damage amp function) because of his prominent cast times.

The Game

Structure fire. Empty house. Thick gray smoke puffing out from under the eaves. Not a good sign when it’s puffing out in spurts like that, instead of just tendrils of it escaping steadily. It means the thing’s been burning for a while now.

If a fire starts inside a structure that is locked up tight and unventilated, as this one was, and goes unchecked, it will eventually consume the available oxygen inside, and the flames will die down into a smoldering stage. Picture a hearth fire in which the wood has been consumed and only glowing embers remain.

And by that point, the place will be full and become fuller still of dense smoke. And the heat inside will continue to build, for it, as with the smoke, has no good means of escape. Pressure inside will build, and the smoke and heat will begin to be forced out of any available minuscule opening.

Any combustion requires three things: fuel, oxygen, and an ignition source (I get any of this stuff wrong or leave something out, some of y’all in the know correct my ass. I ain’t proud).

ANY combustion works that way, be it an engine, a firearm, high explosives, whatever. An explosion is nothing more than a burn happening very rapidly. Take away any one of those elements, and the burn cannot continue. That’s the way a dry chemical fire extinguisher works. It smothers the flames by separating the fuel from its oxygen source.

And in a situation such as this, that same thing has occurred. There is no longer enough oxygen present in that closed environment to support a free burn.

But the fire is still there. It’s not dead. It’s just waiting. And so The Game begins.

And it Is a game, with always only one winner in the end.

Fire is a sentient thing. It is Alive. It thinks and schemes as we do. Anyone who has been on The Job will know what I mean.

And that’s what makes the game so interesting, and holds much of the Job’s appeal. The challenge: who will win, and who will lose? Life without some risk can become a dull thing.

The red-eyed dragon is always thinking, you see, and always trying to outwit you. Trying to surprise you; and in this game as in few others, having a surprise sprung on you is the last thing you want. It might be the last thing you ever see.

So that’s why it’s so important to learn and understand the way it thinks, and the moves it might make. It’s like a chess match between two skilled opponents, winner take all. You already know its goal. It wants to

Areajugones - Víctor Rodríguez - Spanish - 9 / 10

>‎Deathloop is a video game that maintains the characteristic elements of Arkane games: an outstanding level design, exceptional gameplay, an interesting story and a spectacular artistic section. A work with very few buts that has hooked me and fallen in love from beginning to end.‎

We seem to have a bit of a bump in the number of people who are under the mistaken impression that there isn't a massive amount of Zen to study:

I'm not expecting everyone to have a college degree... but we at least should all be on the same page that "heard from a Buddhist church" isn't a reasonable starting point...

Soto Zen Master Dongshan said, "If you would experience that which transcends even the Buddha, you must first be capable of a bit of conversation.

There is no mention in there of sitting meditation being a requirement... but guess what you have to do to have a conversation?

Just One Drop - Chapter Three

I want to thank Bluefishcake for the same reason as everyone else – it’s a treat to play in someone else’s sandbox, and he’s made one that’s really great!

Particular thanks go to XaphOs (The Piano Man) HollowShel (Cultural Exchange) and RandomTinkerer (City Slickers and Hayseeds) for their help, goodwill, craft, and encouragement. Without them, this story would stay in my head, and if you haven’t read their stories yet, I can’t encourage you enough.

Special thanks to XaphOs for use of his characters Ta'nu, Axia and Olea. I couldn't have come up with better, and would have been hard pressed to find their equal. I’m grateful he let me add a bit to their stories.

Special thanks to HollowShel for being an amazing person to bounce ideas back and forth with! Seriously, a few talks have filled out whole chapters!

Finally, special thanks to RandomTinkerer. I’m not worthy!!!! (Over three exclamation points may be the sign of an unhinged mind, but I cant express my thanks enough.)

Thank you all for reading, and for any and all comments.

Just One Drop

Chapter Three -- Turned Into a Hawk

Oh, goddess, no! Please don’t let me die like this! I have too much to live for!’ Ta’nu leaned against the wall to avoid staggering, his arm wrapped around his stomach. The pain in his side was awful, and he bit his tongue to regain his focus as he squeezed his eyes shut. ‘It hurts! It hurts so much!’

The agent leaned against the wall as the pain receded, panting with the effort of containing himself and trying not to picture Axia's dumbstruck expression.

The interrogation studio that he and the two Shil'vati women occupied was carefully soundproofed and contained a host of equipment to study every aspect of a subject on the other side of the one-way glass. The adjoining interview room itself was small, giving a close side view of the Human who sat in one of the two chairs. Things had started well enough when Axia had settled Miv’eire into the observation room, but then the comments started. Miv’eire might hold a minor title and she was certainly an instructor at the AYL, but staring at Tom Warrick just a few feet away seemed to have overcome any inhibitions Miv’eire had, and she was proving to be rather… zesty.

“… and maybe you can’t see it, Axia, but he so looks like Chander. I just can't help it! I know you never knew him, but if you changed this Human’s coloration and gave him tusks he would be a spitting image…” Mil’vere sighed as she gazed wist

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.

This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.

If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.

Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.

Guide to Psion - Walking through the abilities and discussing playtest character builds.

Hey Folks-

This is something of a "rough draft" for Kibbles' Guide to Kibbles' Content (a silly thing I promised a while back for the Kickstarter). This will walk through the basics of Psion, some of the nice starter builds for it, and some of the keystone features to consider. I'm starting with Psion because I think it sometimes has a reputation for being more complicated than it really is, there's just a few mechanics it uses that are more obvious in play then they are in to read, and it also has a wide range of flexibility.

The Basics of Psion

The first thing to understand about the Psionics of the Psion is that the class works something akin to a Warlock. It can be thought of as a "short rest caster", and is equivalent to a full caster, but works in a somewhat different way. Just as a Warlock might use Eldritch Blast to be consistently useful, and than can use their spells to supplement their Eldritch Blast damage (with Hex, Darkness, or Shadow of Moil for example) or to toss out some big effects (a Fiend Warlock dropping a Fireball for example), Psion shares a very similar model, but with a few key differences. They will, typically speaking, use the Psionic Power most turns, and then spend their Psi Points either further empowering those powers, or to cast spells through "alternate effects" of the Disciplines they select. The main difference is that they have a lot more flexibility in how they use both of their powers and points, though in exchange they give up a little bit of the consistent reliable damage.

Psionic Powers & Psionic Mastery

The most important thing about a Psion will always be your Psionic Powers. You can think of them like your cantrips or weapon attacks. They are designed to be something you can use every turn reliably and effectively, but also be something you'll feel good about using every turn. While a Wizard might use Firebolt when they have no better option, for a Psion using your Power should often be your first choice, not your last choice. Let's walk through some of the details on them:

  • Why are powers better than cantrips? While a power does the same damage as a cantrip on the surface, they all come with a useful "rider" effect, meaning that in addition to doing damage, they will typically do something else. Sort of like Vicious Mockery, but if Vicious Mockery also did high damage for a cantrip. This is because they aren't balanced against classical cantrips, but more against something like Eldritch Bl
