A list of puns related to "Thrash Metal"
Mine is that Razorβs 1988 album βViolent Restitutionβ is the greatest metal album of all time.
So I want to know what kind of guitar pedals can help me get a good thrash metal tone. Like a Megadeth/Metallica kind of sound. So what guitar pedals are good for thrash?
How influential has punk been in shaping these subgenres of metal?
Mine are:
Honorable mention to The New Order by Testament. I'd also mention The Crusade by Trivium coz I really love that album and it's pretty much a thrash album even though Trivium isn't a thrash band.
I mean God damn that is an epic opening riff. I think it may be the best metal riff of the 80s. And easily one of the best riffs of all time, at least in metal, I put it in top 10. The speed, the adrenaline, the ferocity and the rhythm, are just endlessly re-listenable. Hetfieldβs rhythms are so hooky, so head-banging, I could easily see him being a good fit for a funk band in an alternate universe. Iβd argue heβs one of the top rhythm guitarists of his generation during this era of Metallica.
Anyways thatβs my rant. I wonβt be surprised if I get lectured or ranted at by metal purists. But itβs jut my opinion.
is this a weird thing ? i donβt care if it is but what do you guys jam to on a trip??
"Control and Resistance" by late 80s Texas-based prog/tech metal band Watchtower is by far one of the most interesting and musically impressive albums Ive ever listened to. Its a quirky sound i can almost only really describe as a mixture of thrash metal and jazz fusion. The incredible mixture of acoustic and electric drums, the crazy harmonic tapping of the guitar, an absolutely booming bass and a singer that could rival Geddy Lee just absolutely floors you sonically when you put this album on.
There is so much to this album that could be said between the constantly changing time signature changes and off-beat rhythms to the use of negative space in music, this album is so so so far ahead of its time. Please if you enjoy anything Proggy/technical, give this a listen!

The 4 with the most votes Is gonna decide. If you have any other bands to recommend, make sure that they are very popular, To an extinct overrated, and have at least 4 solid albums ( or more ). I chose these 6 cause they are all of these.
Self explanatory. Infest the rats nest dominated my playtime on Spotify last year.

Just curious
I recently discovered Death this week, and have been listening to their albums while at work.
I have been wondering, is their early work considered Thrash Metal?
Wiki has them labeled as "death metal", and credited as being one of the creators of the genre. However, their debut album, Scream Bloody Gore, sounds thrash as hell.
If you put them side by side with Havok or Power Trip, I feel like the gravely vocal style and speed match up very close.
When I think of death metal, I think of Cannibal Corpse and gutteral vocals, but Death doesn't really follow any of those genre styles.
Am I the only one? What did Death consider themselves when they hit the scene?
We are searching for an Artist who can provide art for our first album (album cover + maybe inlay). For reference you can take a look at album covers of bands such as Nuclear Assault, Toxic Holocaust, Sodom, Destruction, etc...
If you feel comfortable you can do something similar i can provide you with more details.
PS: You don't have to be the next Ed Repka, it's ok if you bring in your own style :)
Edit: Just a heads up for everyone commenting: I'm meeting with the band on the weekend and we will decide then. Thanks for all the recommendations so far :)
Iβve wanted to be in a band for ages and now finally worked up the courage to make an attempt, planning to call it Segador, if anyone would be pleased to join just let me know
well im not really new to thrash but i need new bands. ive been stucked to the old 80's or 90's ones.
So, I love thrash metal, itβs one of my favorite genres, and so is deathcore, so Iβm wondering if thereβs a band out there that mixes the two. Is that even a thing?
Outside of shows, I have never met another human being (especially a fellow Gen X'er) who likes metal, nevermind thrash. My age group is a bunch of boring "my family is my life" types and those younger are into either new country or whatever rap turned into. Wtf happened?
End rant.
And why is it "Absence of Light" by Testament?
What I mean is, Iβm talking who had similar success, fame, popularity, lyrics, sound, lyrics, or style of music to MotΓΆrhead.
I don't know how many people listen to thrash metal nowadays, but I absolutely love just getting super stoned and listening to some Metallica or something thrashy. Metallica is just the absolute best to listen to, they have so many melodic and super structured out songs that when your super high just sound like absolute masterpieces of metal! Literally every album sounds really melodic, Kill Em All has a super aggressive firey passion feeling. Ride The Lightning is a really fun one, besides "fade to black" and "escape"...I personally don't really like those ones because they are either overplayed or just not my taste. Master of Puppets is a 11/10 listen, front to back it's super hard hitting thrash thats melodic and just fun to listen to. And Justice For All isnt my absolute favorite, and I believe that would have to be for the bass and the drum sound. I really do love the guitar work and concepts of the songs on the album but the album doesn't feel complete to me for some reason. I know James was going for a different guitar sound but still it feels rough. Megadeth is also another one I love to throw on, Dave Mustaines voice is absolutely amazing and really just fits the attitude of the way the they play the songs. \m/
I am from India so I don't know a lot about music from US/UK.
Ride The Lightning is my favorite Metallica album, but I have a question, is it actually fair to consider it thrash metal album, since half of the songs on it don't really fit it the genre? I'm completely sure Fight Fire with Fire, Ride The Lightning, Trapped Under Ice and Creeping Death are thrash metal songs, but the rest songs on the record seem too slow to be called thrash
