What is Titanfall?

In case you haven't heard of it, Titanfall is a first-person shooter developed by Respawn Entertainment, comprised of former Call of Duty developers, and released in 2014. It was relatively well-received and would go on to spawn a (dare I say) legendary sequel and a couple of spin-offs.

Well, what happened to the game?

Starting around May of this year, both Titanfall (and Titanfall 2 to a lesser extent) became essentially unplayable due to an onslaught of DDOS (Distributed Denial Of Service) attacks. This became a huge issue for the game because the entirety of the game's content was online-exclusive, you could not access any of the game's content without a connection to the servers. That includes both the co-op story portion and the competitive multiplayer portion. The point is the game was not playable. But EA, the publisher of the game, was still selling the game on all storefronts. This, naturally, angered a lot of people because EA was well aware of the attacks (the developers even made a statement about it on Twitter, although nothing really came of it). Dedicated fans decided to retaliate.

And now, a brief interlude about Apex Legends

Apex Legends is a battle royale game set in the Titanfall universe, also developed by Respawn Entertainment. This game is one of EA's most profitable products, and has been since its intial release in early 2019. Apex is incredibly popular. I think you can see where this is going.

On July 4th, 2021, hackers broke into the Apex Legends servers and wrecked havoc. While the game remained (somewhat) playable, the hackers made a message appear to every player after every match, linking a website titled savetitanfall.com. This website, now down, detailed the motive behind the attack, which stemmed from the unplayability of Titanfall 1. This brash move effectively tore the Titanfall fanbase in two, with some supporting the hackers and some against them. Supporters argued that the only way that Respawn, and more importantly EA, will listen is to hit them in their pockets. Those against the attack argued that

Today is my final official day in the Air Force and wanted to leave some words for the E-6 Mafia and the Godfather that will take my place.

I made E-6 on 1 May 2011 and hoped to continue being promoted before I retired. After the first few years of being passed over I felt like there must be something wrong, I never received a negative EPR and never received paperwork. I chose several off-base organizations to be involved with and even played/captained a base sponsored sports team. Through all of this I had managed to complete a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree. All boxes ticked in my mind.

Then one day there we were, all section chiefs lined up in the E-9’s office asking why we had failed to meet a mission. Everyone had an excuse for the failures of this short sighted E-9 and when it was my turn to talk I explained that everyone had a roll in this failure including themselves. I explained that we had sent several emails months ago warning of this situation if we continued down this path. The E-9 was furious to hear someone provide negative feedback in a closed office and immediately I was given feedback for allowing the failed mission. This was the moment I decided that I will never allow anyone to run over my Airmen like this.

This is the meaning behind the E-6 Mafia, we are the few that stand up to leadership and tell them exactly what they need to hear. We will be the honest individuals that give our opinions even though our opinions are not popular. We do this always with respect and in the appropriate locations, then salute smartly and carry on outside.

We do not shy away from promotion, I would have loved to be an E-7 before I retired. However, we do not step on our fellow Airmen to get there. I spent every quarter submitting my people and teams for awards and at the end of every year I would submit the strongest package for an annual award. I trusted my supervisor to do the same for me. Unfortunately I only had one supervisor where this happened and they tried their hardest unfortunately they were unsuccessful.

This is my charge to the E-6 Mafia, until promotion or retirement, you will look after those placed in your care and the well-being of the Air Force without kowtowing to those above you in order to be promoted. To further show the resolve of the E-6 Mafia to stand up to criticism I have posted this on my actual account and not some burner one created to cause a stir. I look forward to having a discussion in the comments below.

Recently, I finished the original Mafia and loving my time with it. I didn't really feel like playing more of Mafia 2 after a few hours with it, so I moved onto Mafia 3.

First off, I want to congratulate Hanger 13 on the music selections, and combat design. Back in GTA SA, my favorite radio station is KDST, for those unaware, it's a radio station that plays songs made around the period Mafia 3 is set in. It's a fantastic selection for a person like me who loves classic rock songs. But it's a shame that there were no songs from The Who, and Toto, because Hold The Line, and Eminence Front are two of my favorite songs from GTA SA.

For the combat, it's fantastic, the shooting is satisfying, enemy reactions to being shot at for gratifying, and the sound design is great. I really love that the game encourages an aggressive playstyle with the 2 weapon limit, and low ammo count.

Also, bravo on the voice actors, and facial animation in the cutscenes. Some fantastic work right there.

But now I have to get into my biggest problem with the game. I don't like most of Ubisoft games, because so many of them push me to grind just to progress the story. It's a shame that Mafia 3 is stuck in the same hole, because after 8-10 hours, I'm just done. The formula is always: Talk to Donovan -> Talk to contact -> Cause damage to rackets -> Kill/Recruit underboss -> Kill the main boss of that district -> Repeat.

From what I've seen of Mafia Definitive Edition, it sidesteps this problem entirely by focusing directly on its main story, no bullshit filler. It looks like it's a tight 8-10 hours experience from start to finish, while Mafia 3 feels like a 20-25 hours experience that could have been improved so much, had they just cut out 50% of the "side" filler missions.

If you love the Ubisoft Open World Game™ formula, you'll love this game. If you hate the formula, you'll hate this game. I really wish it could have been different.

I tend to avoid mafia romance novels because of this. The Heroes abusing the Heroines, most of the time, it's even romanticized. Like, he's hitting her or forcing himself on her or locking her up and stuff. I don't care if he's a villain. He can burn the world to ashes, for all I care. I just want him to be loving and sweet to the heroine, is that too much to ask?!

Cruel Paradise by J. T. Geissinger is the first mafia romance I read where the MMC was a ruthless villain to the world but he never once, even once, so much as tried intimidating her. There was this one scene where he thought he hurt her [He didn't] and he panicked and was like, did I hurt you? PLEASE tell me I didn't hurt you! I couldn't bear it if I did! He's smitten with her but she hates men like him. He wants to kiss her but she says no and he listens. He's always honest to her. Even though the FMC was still convinced he's a villain, she thought to herself that he was a gentleman.

If you're like me your Facebook feed has been spammed with post from big pages (Top Commentaire, Derrière Chaques, all the 1001 groups etc...) begging people to follow some Instagram page, it became apparent that they're all controlled by the same person/group and it was all a big paid marketing campaign.

After some inside info and cross-checking the groups admins I've found the owner of all these pages (nicknamed Yajoura) and it was effectively all planned.

Then today after commenting to an admin's ad on one of the groups (1001 business), saying that the post had no relation with the group's theme I was promptly banned from all 1001 groups.

The problem with all this is the huge influence these pages and groups have on the population, people are quick to trust posts they believe are from other people but these are calculated and planned, plus the admins and mods remove any comment that doesn't fit their narrative so they manipulate the public opinion.
