Hank Stram's 1969-1970 Chiefs team was known as "Hank Stram's Wild West Variety Show". He was well known for his innovative pre-snap motion offense and semi-circular huddle that would confuse defensive players.
Here we are 50 years later and the Chiefs once again have a head coach in Andy Reid who is well known for his innovative pre-snap motion offense which confuses defenses, gadget plays, and fast screen plays.
The Chiefs are fresh off an AFC title game loss where they were an offsides and later on a coin toss away from getting to their first Super Bowl in 49 years. They broke the home playoff curse last year, but what if it takes one more year to break the Super Bowl appearance drought?
The AFC usual suspects Broncos and Steelers are down, the Colts and Ravens are wild card teams, the Chargers are..well..the Chargers; and will continue to be a challenge to the AFCW, and our bitter rival the Raiders are waiting to get into their stadium in Las Vegas. The Chiefs will have to battle the Patriots for AFC supremacy this season and if there were ever a season to get over the hump this would be it.
Here are the teams and number of times they've appeared in the Super Bowl since 2000:
The Chiefs and AFC have been plagued by Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and Ben Roethlisberger for the better part of 19 years, but their time has or is coming to an end. Manning already retired, Brady may play a few more years until he's 44 or 45, and Big Ben has maybe another 4-5 years left. Meanwhile, the Chiefs have a young MVP QB in Patrick Mahomes that is already turning into the face of not only the AFC, but the NFL as a whole. The Chiefs have the opportunity to set themselves up as the premier AFC team for the next 5 or more seasons.
To say we are excited for the season to get underway is an understatement. The similarities of Andy Reid's offense to Hank Stram's offense are quite something and maybe 50 years is enough time to wait for the Chiefs to return to football glory once again.
As much as I enjoy Tom collecting rings, Iβm rooting for the bengals
How about the rest of you?

tl;dr- Highest quality version of the full game that you will ever see. The insights into the game granted by this version led me to a number of realizations about that team and the stars of our first SB-winning squad.
In the lead up to the big game I decided I needed to watch, in full, our last win, SB IV in 1969 against the Minnesota Vikings. It took some searching, but I believe I have found the greatest reproduction of the game available.
The Sources include:
The latter two sources have been edited and incorporated into the full game at chronologically-correct positions. This editing provides needed sprinkling of color to help break up the sometimes monotonous framing as well as excellent camera perspectives for key plays. Last but not least, The cut-aways to Stram go way beyond the clips we are used to seeing throughout the years and give a very real insight into his personality, his genius for play calling, his leadership as well as doing magnitudes of service to really feel the flow of the game.
The editing has also provided a good chunk of the pre-game and post-game broadcast including the halftime performance. The incredible efforts to incorporate field audio impart a taste of just how physical these two teams were.
In a broader appeal, this game is cemented in NFL history as the one that proved the AFL was on-par with and could even surpass the NFL as the dominant league.
Having never watched the full game I was very surprised and impressed by a few things. First is just how disciplined our OL was in the timing and coordination of their resets- creating a sort of play-action snap that Stram could use to exploit DL anticipation and readiness. No wonder this tactic has been ruled out of the game. Second, I could not believe just how physical the Chiefs were against the infamous Purple People Eaters, by the time the first half was coming to a close, they were just downright whipping them. Whipping is the only word that comes to mind for the relentlessness with which we just brought it to them. Third, Stram used a ton of bootlegs and rollouts to mitigate the physicality of that
... keep reading on reddit β‘Is there a team you really don't want to face? Is there a match up that will make you sick?
I have 2 that are so narrowly similar I can't decide what would be worse.
1a) Bucs vs Pats Super Bowl. This isn't a slight on either team and I'm sure it would be a good game. However, the Tom vs Bill narrative leading up to it may lead to me dying.
1b) Bucs vs Chiefs Super Bowl rematch. Again, nothing about the game itself worries me I just dread the thought of the narrative leading up to it.
We're all football fans here. Whether your team is in the Super Bowl or not, you're probably gonna watch it.
But what 2 teams, if they met up in the Super bowl this year, would be your nightmare scenario? By this, I mean there would be absolutely no excitement for either team to win, or any of the storyline leading up to the game?
I gotta go with Packers vs Chiefs. Thinking about Nick Wright being obnoxious over his favorite team (chiefs) with a whole 2 weeks of build up being stupid gloating.
Also, the fox sports and espn talking heads would be insufferable with their Rodgers/Mahomes is the GOAT talk.
Plus, the 2 teams don't have that long of droughts, and I'm already bored of the chiefs winning the afc I want new blood in there.
Man this stat makes me happy
Edit: people in the comments are correct but since you can't edit Reddit titles here's what the title should be
The eagles have won more Super Bowls in the last quarter century than the cowboys have won divisional round games
101 The Fox is currently playing the radio broadcast of Super Bowl IV. Really cool to hear Bill Grigsby calling the game and describing things that line up to today. Red over white uniforms, the start of a new decade. Hopefully the result is the same 50 years later.
Letβs get this done and bring home the trophy. Our Town, Our Team, Our Time, OUR TROPHY.
Hope this post is ok in here! Some friends and I are having a party / get together to watch the upcoming super bowl. As the host, Iβd very much like to offer some event-appropriate snacks, but not being American (weβre from Scandinavia), I could really use some input! Any super-bowl-snack-must-haves? And maybe why?
Both teams have won 4 games in the last 25 years. Texans are 4-6 all time but 4-2 in WC games with only 2 βone and doneβ appearances. The Cowboys have 7 such appearances in that time with 4 WC wins as well.
