A list of puns related to "Spanish Escudo"
ALL ITEMS SOLD - Thanks for your interest!
These coins would make for fun Christmas gifts -- gold older than your country would make quite the conversation item. You don't see these often due to the hurdles of getting gold out of Spain (export taxes and export approvals). I've found significant interest in these coins, so I hunt them down! Reselling and writing these posts gives me the incentive to dig into the history, which I really enjoy. Escudos were minted in seven mints spanning 6k miles (Santiago, Chile, to Madrid).
See videos for many coins below. As a frequent buyer of gold coins I'm often surprised as the reality vs. the pics (often pleasantly). The videos are here for you to know what you're getting. All coins below come with Airtite capsules.

Escudos are both U.S. and world gold. Coinage in the British colonies was scarce since it was illegal to mint coins and to export them from Britain. As a consequence, Spanish silver reales and gold escudos were an integral part of colonial America trading, and the early decades of the U.S. (here). Spanish gold was legal tender in the U.S. until the mid-1800s, after the U.S. began to mint its own gold in quantity. NGC graded coins of this type (here) carry the label βUS Legal tender Until 1857.β This was necessary because the U.S. minted few gold coins until the mid-18th century.
An escudo (or "shield," referring to the reverse) was minted in 1/2, 1, 2, 4 and 8 escudos denominations. In the 18th and early 19th century, Spanish coinage was bimetallic, 1 escudo (gold) = 16 reales (silver). Initially, were pieces of precious metal with the appropriate weight struck with the design, know as "cobs" (here). Cobs were irregularly shaped, but quick to produce, which was useful to ship the metals back to mainland Spain. Beginning in the 1730s, Spanish gold and silver was produced using modern production techniques (machining). A standardized planchet

The Latin Monetary Union (βLMU") was a monetary union in Europe established in 1865 based on coinage standards originating with Napoleon I. Officially, it included France, Belgium, Greece, Italy, Spain, Venezuela, and others. Many other countries (Russia, Finland, Poland, Serbia, etc) matched the standard and minted coins in the same denomination. The U.S. considered joining, minting a pattern coin ($5/25 francs). It was the first 'euro' -- you can find posters identifying the coins that were official members. The LMU fell apart with the onset of WWI, but you can find several coins with the same size in the interwar period (Poland, Yugoslavia, etc) and beyond.

Hi all,
Do any of you know of a book that focuses on 'new world' spanish gold? I just bought a great Colombian escudo (dated 1762) and I'd like to know more about it and similar coins.
Thanks!
I think this is some sort of spanish escudo. It looks fake to me. My wife found this while cleaning up. She said her dad gave this to her a long time ago. http://imgur.com/a/4exQ9
(A little something I decided to put together. Some cases have more detailed descriptions than others. I hope to do this for every continent)
ALGERIA: Boumehraz (Early 1960s - 1967)
Boumehraz real name Daho Said was a serial killer constantly beaten by his mother who engaged in the occult and fortune telling and was often described as a "witch" Daho would beat her to death with a mehraz after reaching the breaking point and would flee to the Algerian city of Oran. After settling in Oran he would start to kill various women who reminded him of his mother with a mehraz however in 1967 he was arrested after his last victim fought back and the residents beat and restrained him. He was executed by fire squad and urinated before being shot dead.
ANGOLA: A Luz do Mundo (2007 - 2016)
A Luz do Mundo was a cult/sect founded in 2007 by a man named JosΓ© Julino Kalupeteca after he was expelled from the Seventh-day Adventist Church. A Luz do Mundo would come into conflict with authorities as early as 2012 when JosΓ© urged and instructed his followers not to take part in the Angolan elections and also urged followers not to get vaccinated or take their children to school, not to eat certain foods and to sell their belongings and homes to live closer to the sect's base.
He also told them not to take part in the 2014 Angolan census however in late 2014 an agreement between the government and A Luz do Mundo was reached. This agreement soon broke down and in April, 2015 the police arrived at their compound to arrest JosΓ© on unspecified charges after several clashes between police and members of the sect caused the death of a police officer. JosΓ©'s private security guards would open fire on the police killing 9 officers.
The compound was soon raided which led to an official death toll of 13 all being JosΓ©'s security guards and the arrest of 90 members. JosΓ© was sentenced to 28 years for the deaths of the nine officers and also due to illegal firearms and weapons being discovered in his compound. Clashes between police and the sect continued into 2016.
The trial and arrest has been criticized for it's irregularities and many accused the police of human rights violations w

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Hello all! This is my first post on here, I am looking for a very specific coin, the description of which can be found on pages 9 and 10 of this book (its in Spanish, my apologies) https://www.google.com/books/edition/Descripcion_hist%C3%B3rica_de_las_estatuas_m/qMF8CirMwMgC?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=escudo+de+armas+de+aguilo+tarragona&pg=PA9&printsec=frontcover
It is coinage for the Principality of Tarragona during the reign of Prince Robert d'Aguilo and his heirs. The description of the coin, according to the book, is
"The coins of Tarragona that are attributed to the prince of Aguilo bear the head of an Eagle represented on the obverse, emblem of that noble and ancient family, as can also be seen in the pantheon that was erected in the monastery of Santas Creus and on the reverse. the Tau or Greek cross of Santa Tecla, patron saint since ancient times and true Lady of the City, without any inscription,"
The book goes on to say that examples of this coin still exist, but are rarer than later examples that have the modern wavy coat of arms of Tarragona. What I am looking for specifically is any photo of this particular coin. I have searched online but I cannot seem to find any photos of it. Any help would be tremendously appreciated!
