A list of puns related to "Southern Adventist University"
My local SDA college has a very nice looking Visual Arts Department with decent animation equipment. Iβm talking wacom cintiqs at each desk and rtx 2070 pcβs and even has a film set for future filmmakers but i havenβt heard from alot of graduates from their animation program. They say its a good program but Iβve only met one graduate from the program so if anyone in the SAU animation program could share there experience. I canβt tell if this is a good program either any tips on how to spot a good program?
Curious if thereβs anyone here from the Collegedale area or have previously been there and wouldnβt mind sharing some stories.
I grew up in the church, but now I consider myself atheist. I have gotten a full ride to Southern Adventist University, and am seriously considering going there for financial stability (also some pressure from family). However, I am feeling very anxious going into such a religious setting, and want to know if anyone here knows if it is worth it.
Will I be singled out for being atheist/discriminated against? I know they live a very strict lifestyle which is fine with me, but I just donβt want to be coerced or pressured into their beliefs. I want to know about the studentβs there aswell, and if anyone has insight it would be v much appreciated.
Are they tolerant people, and will I be able to make friends as a Bi-sexual and left leaning person?

So we're prohibited from wearing all types of jewelry, but we're forced (in college) to wear ties to vespers? Ties, that serve no purpose other than looks and slightly choking you, thus distracting you from the message. And we're forced to go to vespers every Friday but we can skip church every week? I know it's conservative but seriously. /rant

Rumors include:
-Shots fired in the guys dorm
-Bomb threat for either the guys dorm or the main admin building
Hashtag on twitter is #SAULockdown. I'll monitor it and give updates.
An hour ago, https://twitter.com/johnmadewellNC9/status/426396862984118272 says that there are more schools on lock down. It might not be related?

... keep reading on reddit β‘Why do a lot of SDAβs think itβs not acceptable to go out to eat on Sabbath, but will go to the University (Southern) cafeteria for lunch? The principle is the same. Someone is working and getting paid to cook your food, the caveat is that itβs all just taking place under the roof of an SDA organization vs out in public somewhere. Whatβs the difference? Iβve been there on Sabbath afternoons and have seen families eating, who arenβt going to school there, but they must just feel like itβs a safe place to go since itβs an SDA environment.
I had a friend during my time at SAU, who would prepare her own food in her dorm on Sabbath, or go to the cafeteria and get something to-go. I suggested one day that we go out for lunch somewhere and she refused and said she didnβt feel right about that, so I asked her what the difference was about going to the cafeteria vs somewhere outside of campus and she couldnβt really answer it besides βI just donβt want to do thatβ. I respected her choice but it had me puzzledβ¦
So I know this is an ex Adventist Reddit buuttt I wanted to take a leap of faith and see if there are any at my school or former Oakwoodites that I can meet !!
Has it something to do with "saving even those that don't deserve to be saved" (in the same way like other religious fundamentalists cry oppression whenever they try to outlaw "sinful behaviour" like biblically uncondoned forms of sexual activity between two consenting adults, abortions and dancing bans for everyone else)?
PS: The probably most influential and dangerous member next to Ellen G. White herself, John Harvey Kellogg, apparently also co-founded the white supremacist eugenicist "Race Betterment Foundation" and massively promoted genital mutilation of boys and girls as a "punishment" to prevent masturbation.
"Cereals" are an invention of him believed to dampen the desire for masturbation too, marketed by his brother Will Keith.

Correction: I can't change the title anymore, but it's Loma Linda, not Linda Loma.
Adventist schools were the only ones I could afford except state school, so Iβve decided to try Southern out. If I hate it, Iβll just come back and go to state school but I wanted to explore a new location, get away from my family a bit. Iβm dreading it but also excited because the location is great and I have a lot of friends going. Iβm queer+ agnostic+ liberal. Iβm not interested in partying type stuff but I am concerned about the anti-atheist and anti-LGBT sentiment of administration/ teachers/ students, etc. Just wondering if anyone has any advice/ would want to share their experiences, especially if you attended one recently and/or attended southern. Eg: should I try and engage in actual discussion in class about evolution, LGBT issues, etc, or will that cause more problems for me than it will be productive? How strict are the worship requirements, will they really put me on probation if Iβm a few short? How do they treat LGBT couples?
Edit: I am going. Not looking for βdonβt goβ.

I'm thinking about applying here, because I think I want to live in Dallas, Austin, or Houston. Can anyone speak to the Black experience and life in Dallas/Houston in general?
I have been in the middle of a search for where I want to attend college. Iβve been looking at several options for what has the major Iβm pursuing and one that has the right size, the right atmosphere, and as I said the right major, Itβs not too far away compared to other options. My only concern is that it is an Adventist university, and my mom and her family are devout Baptist. Where as Iβm kind of indifferent to those kind of indifferent when it comes to different denominations no matter how different. Iβm just worried about what her reaction would be if I suggested this to her, and what the reaction of my extended family.
Iβm considering attending an Adventist university for college, my mother is Baptist and Iβm non-denominational, I was wondering if anyone who knows a thing or two could give any advice on if I should apply, and if I do and get accepted should I attend?
Has anyone interviewed at Southern Illinois University? I would appreciate any info about the interview! Thanks!
Trying to take Biochem with a lab component online. Seems like SCUHS is the only place that offers that. Wondering if anyone took the class and if you took it for the synchronous or asynchronous option, and how your experience was. Any recommendations on profs or other options would be appreciated!
They're located in Stafford, Texas. Their building is literally right next door to a senior living facility. The only memorable thing near their campus is a Bed, Bath and Beyond (which is memorable because of how many have closed in Houston.)
According to their history section of their website, they were granted Bachelor and Master degrees through December 2017, which is weird that they haven't updated it since.
I then took a look at the Student achievement section and some of the stats I saw concerned me. For example, for the years 2019-2020, their MS in Computer Science had a 50% graduation rate, yet had a 100% Employment rate. They also stated that their BBA had a 37% graduation rate.
As for the degrees the school offers, they only offer 4 Bachelor Degrees: A BBA, a BS in Computer Science, a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies in Education and a BS in Criminal Justice.
Now, you may be thinking: What does it take to join this wonderful university as a freshman?! Well, I can tell you that if you took the SAT after March 2016, you would need a 480 on the Evidence Based Reading/Writing or a 22 on the reading section or a 440 on the Math section. If you took the ACT, you would need a composite score of 15 or a 19 in Math or English.
In conclusion, this school feels a little like ITT Tech, except it's in a fancier building and has sports teams.
