The vast majority of society doesn't understand how introverted minds work

I come from a country where everyone is extremely extroverted, Brazilians are known for being talkative, touchy, sociable and a lot of other things and for an introverted person that's a living hell. I noticed how extroverts don't understand or at least don't want to understand how introverted people think and act, they are always trying to talk, to convince us to go out multiple times, wanting to touch us and that's just so disrespectful, when you live in a society you must understand that not everyone is like you, and although you like to touch and talk and go out some people don't like those things and that's ok. Society doesn't know how to deal with introverts, I've seen a lot of people calling introverts egocentric, rude, weird and other stuff and that's just not true at all, just because someone doesn't wanna talk to you for 40 minutes straight they are rude? Introverts don't think they are better than everyone, they just wanna be left alone but for extroverted people wanting to be left alone is... Weird and rude? I don't think extroverts ever took time to read a little bit about introverted minds and how they work cause if they did they wouldn't act so disrespectfully towards introverted people. I've seen extroverts saying "oh I'll adopt you cause you are an introvert" I don't need to be adopted, I don't wanna be like you, not everyone likes to be sociable, if I want to I can be talkative... I just don't want to.

The worst part is, when we are young, society creates this chaos in our mind that puts us in a constant state of anxiety.

Most of us go on living that way. School is a fucking tool to put us in that fight or flight mode.

Always gotta be alert! Gotta do the work! Gotta this gotta that. It just makes us so damn anxious, depressed all kinds of stuff. I, myself have GAD and OCD and recently I started when realizing when I get a panic attack, it is not really the way it used to be. I understand that it's the bodies way to protect me, but I really did not give a fuck if I die in that situation because it just is not worth worrying anymore.

Fuck anxiety, there is nothing to worry about.

If you can, be happy.

If you can't, just say fuck it and roll with it.

Dear Reddit: The respect you have for homosexuals, the politically oppressed, drug-users, and the general outcasts of society, you mind being unilateral with that towards those who actually are somewhat religious?

I have been on reddit for almost 6 months now, and one thing in particular has really attracted me to reddit. That is the respect it shows to everyone and how it permeates all genders, social levels, and cultures.

There however, is one major exception to this. I notice that if anyone mentions anything positive about religion in any way this is immediately downvoted and a string of comments come of this poking fun and mocking the person who said this.

Now I understand some people need to be put into place (IE: the secret santa denizons)... but really reddit is this necessary for people who have their personal faith?

Is it right for me while even typing this thread to fear the reprisal that this will bring for bringing up a legitimate point in my mind?

It would be one thing if I was going into the Atheism subreddit and "preaching the gospel of JEEEEZUS", but I am not. Also, to most atheists surprise, there are actual normal christians/hindus/muslims out there that dont picket outside of dead soldiers funerals or blow people up with bombs inside of shopping malls.

Anyways, just my thoughts... more than likely no one will read this because it will be downvoted before anyone actually gets to see this.

EDIT: When I said secret santa denizons i meant the people that were trolling it by not sending gifts in return or sending garbage to their SS partner. I did the secret santa and loved it, but was bummed out and reading what happened to others who got matched with the trolls.

EDIT 2: Wow, I never expected this to be frontpage top story material. But I am glad there are people out there with a similiar line of thought on this. Also, yes I agree, beer > lemonade.

EDIT 3: I am amazed at the amount of atheists that are coming here and doing exactly what I have described as a problem. This entire thread is self-fulfilling. I do not feel a need to correct internet-atheists as to why they are wrong. Why do they feel the need to say that to me? How am I hurting you in any way? What are you going to achieve by telling me why I am wrong? Nothing. I do not go to my atheist friends and attempt to press my beliefs on them and prove them wrong of theirs... why can't you return the favor like they do?

In short, it's respect reddit. It's respect that you are a human being and you have a RIGHT to believe what you want, and decent people recognize that benefit in respecting other peoples beliefs.

EDIT 4: Sidenote, I found [this](http://imgur.com/Huh

Motivational Post: 10 years ago I dropped out with one goal in mind "Keep all the good stuff I learned from parents and society and grab all the bullshit and make some good compost out of it, to grow a big tree of inner peace, wisdom, clarity, happiness, etc"

So 10 years ago I was a shipwreck, a trainwreck, a goddamn multiple car collision in the highway.

I grabbed myself by the collar, put myself in 2 feet and told myself, "dude, this is your fucking life, either you do it, you fix yourself, or no one will and you will grow older, hard headed and you wont be able to reprogram your mind as easy as today".

I remember clearly being in my backyard doing some "visualization exercises".

I felt like shit inside, I felt anxious, stressed out, paranoic. I felt like I had no safe place, like even my house and my own bed were exposed, unsafe, as if I was in the middle of a public street. This was the beginning of a long, long journey, in which my view of the world completely transformed, I ended up reverting the whole situation, to the point in which I reached a mental state in which even the most "unsafe places" like a busy street, became as cosy and intimate as anything can be.

I remember clearly though that day in my backyard, doing those exercises to change how I felt inside. I would crouch into a ball like position, my arms tucked into my belly, my chin against my chest, I would inhale and then stand up vigorously expand my arms lift my head look up to the sky and internally yell "BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM" and I would picture all the negative shit zapping out of my self and then I would say a mantra "ohmmmm" and imagine that good vibes from all the universe came into me.

Now 10 years later I recall how I felt, how I viewed the world back then, what a shitty life that past me had, I kinda feel it for the guy, but Im also proud of what he has achieved, and I am thankful for all the shit in this world that took me to that dark, dark place, you know why? Because it was a catalyst for change, it was what made me go in this beautiful direction I took, I AM SO THANKFUL AND HAPPY FOR THIS!

THE VERY BEST FOR YOU ALL AND REMEMBER, It only takes one decision to get on this path, and you already are on this path, every step is on the path, life is the path, you are constantly evolving and learning; grab the steering wheel, and patiently wait to get out of that traffic jam, and then head in this direction, theres plenty of joy this way.

Civilization B: Here's another story about a potential SotE society in advance of our ecology development diary. Keep in mind, these stories are meant to emphasize an SotE society's relationship with their land and ecology, and doesn't capture the full range of events that occur in their history

A goblin city state dwelling in a baseline dry region made wet by forest transpiration

A migrant population of goblins settles in a region similar to the Greek Cyrenaica. While in an otherwise desert like region, the area is wedged between oceans and a small, orogenically inactive coastal mountain range. Damp air is blown from the ocean and condenses on the mountain, furnishing the small region with some measure of rainfall. Before the arrival of the goblins, over the eons, forests very slowly developed upon slopes and lowlands, building organic soils and raising the relative humidity. The relatively ancient age of the mountains has made the bedrock for soil formation less fertile, as eons of rain have leeched out much of its nutrients. The very gradual growth of these forests increasingly improved both the rainfall as well as the ability of vegetation to use that rainfall. Higher levels of consistent transpiration and a reduction in the impact of wind coming off the coast due to increasing canopy height means less loss of water through the stomatas of plants. In effect, the vegetation cover of the small rump of land generates a temperate oasis in an otherwise desert landscape.

When the goblins arrive, they rapidly settle along the small rivers that drain off of the mountains. As they expand from the river valleys, clear forests, and bring the thin layer of rich O-Horizon soils under cultivation, they experience a population boom that is made doubly powerful by the high base fertility of their race. This results in rapid expansion throughout the region, with new forests felled and soils exploited. Within a few generations, their numbers are 10 to 20 times larger than that of the original settlers, and this population aggregates around a powerful city state: City A. The forests--- now fragmented and diminished--- regrow even more slowly as they are now whipped and unprotected by the sea breeze as well as suffering from reduced rainfall and humidity.

Some of the goblins branch off and settle along the coast on the other side of a ridge to found a sister city, City B. Witnessing the destructive practices of their cousins, a talented, charismatic leader helps to develop a subculture which preserves the trees upon their slopes. While the leaders of City A use excess labor to build a port, monuments, and a primitive library, the leader of City B and her reigning daughters and grand daughters organize excess labor to build terraces to prevent soil

CMV: Any media (Film, Book, Game) is political in nature if it interacts with any part of society at all. And every kind of media should keep that in mind.

This is a post in response to various "X should be/stay apolitical" posts.

In my view, any interaction with any kind of aspect with society is commentary and therefore will influence people, no matter if intended or not.
If you have a piece of media that, for example, uses our understanding of marriage, it does the same as a piece that would, for example, display any kind of polygamous relationship model as the norm. In both cases, you can argue that by displaying something as given and not question it any further, you legitimize it within the frame of your work.
It is important to recognize base asumptions as such and not to forget that they are, after all, just that, asumptions, not an objective "normal".

In my mind, it is important to be aware of what you are creating. That doesn't mean that you can't create a world that has problems like racism etc, but it has to be put in context.
If you create a world where, for example, women are reduced to sex objects and have no agency on their own, it is harmful to do that without giving it any kind of commentary on the matter. This commentary doesn't have to come in the form of any changes to the story (As in, having women actually overcome that) but if it doesn't acknowledge something as bad in the eyes of the people affected, it presents of message of there being nothing wrong and effectively silencing the affected group in question. Again, this can be done to fit into a much larger picture, like actively making a point that a society dehumanizes a certain group of people, but at the end of it all, a point should have been made.

I also don't think anyone could deny that media has influence. Of course, because one film shows women with no agency doesn't mean that everyone who saw it would adopt that view instantly, but I don't think it has no influence either, especially when it affects an entire genre or industry.
I mean, if it had no effect, propaganda wouldn't be a thing, would it?

Also, I included a qualifier in the title so that an example with some sort of media that doesn't interact with anything isn't really brought up. In most cases, there can be made a case in which even the smallest of story can be viewed through that lense, but in the end, this threat isn't about finding one example in which it could be possible, but to apply a general rule of thumb. Just keep in mind that "interacting with society" is a VERY low bar to pass and is asumed to have been passed by any kind of medi

Being a whore is a state of mind prevalent in modern society

When people talk about whores/sluts/manwhores/fuckboys, nobody envisions sex, but rather a particular type of personality. You know the one. Mainstream media keeps pushing it as a lifestyle to wish for. This makes some women (and, increasingly, men too) believe that for example: it's okay to trick men/women into going on a date with you so that you can get free food, you don't need to ''wo/man up'' and assume responsabilities, it's okay to be dumb as a brick and not be useful for anything else than being a pretty fleshlight with a pulse.

TLDR: The potential of women to be strong, smart and hardworking rolemodels for society is undercut by the stereotype of the dumb slut being pushed by the media as a lifestyle that will bring you happiness. Some men are also increasingly adopting this worldview, and are essentially no different than the women acting that way.

I think human society is in the process of becoming the mind of our planetary superorganism (aka Gaia)

The Gaia hypothesis proposes that living organisms interact with their inorganic surroundings on Earth to form a synergistic and self-regulating, complex system that helps to maintain and perpetuate the conditions for life on the planet. It basically states that our planet is a single living superorganism, but one which is like a tree in that there’s no mind directing its behavior. I think with the introduction of a fully global human society on the horizon, we’re actively transforming ourselves into a collective mind for our planet and for the first time in its history it will intelligently self-regulate and improve upon itself as well as acquire the ability to reproduce via space and extra-earth planet colonization.

Unfortunately, we are currently in an environmental crises due to human action, but i’m optimistic that one day we will learn from our mistakes and will learn to be fantastic stewards for our planet and its creatures. I believe we’ll eventually make this planet better off than we found it for all life by greening the worlds deserts (introducing biodiversity and transforming earth into a superhabitable planet) and eliminating (or at least significantly reducing) suffering & predation via genetic engineering. I think we’ll domesticate the rest of nature and be able to connect more deeply with animals as a whole like we do today with our pets. We may even raise their intelligence and improve on our ability to effectively communicate with them to accomplish this to a greater degree.

At the very least, we get to decide to make this a part of our grand collective purpose, and that’s something I want very much to happen and be a part of. Our home is an amazing, beautiful place and what we’ve built has and can definitely continue to add to its awe-inspiring magnificence. Once we’ve found our way, we will carry our knowledge and wisdom throughout the universe as we give birth to more and more dead planets in the hopes of one day finding others out there to merge with. Our spaceships acting as seeds that seek to fertilize planet sized eggs along the journey. At this point, Gaia itself would be spreading throughout the cosmos to add matter, energy, intelligence/computing power and life to its collective mind.

Societal Engineering is a seven-part series based on the works of the late Jacque Fresco β€” who provides a solution to the world’s problems. This series will be a psychological and sociological breakdown of human societies, in particular, our society. Showcasing how all systems presented to humanity are not only detrimental to the longevity of the balance of nature, but detrimental to the longevity of humanity. Providing alternative solutions to the world’s problems such as new social paradigms which render war & divisions obsolete. Free-clean electricity, a resource based economy, a revamped education system and better ways to raise children.
