Why do a lot of people rewind the yarn when they come in skiens? Is there a benefit or is it just a preference? I would love to know any and all reasons to do it and not to if you don't . Thanks in advance.

Is there an application or website out there that will calculate how many skiens of thread you need based on length?
I use Picturecraftwork.com for my patterns. They include an "estimated length" per color list with the pattern. Ie #310 --> 1234cm.
All I can find are charts that estimate number of stitches, but nothing that says how many skiens I need for a particular color based on length.

Hi, so I don't like how skiens are stored on the bobbins/card and want to keep them in the form that you buy them from the shop but I'm struggling to find a good way to store them?
