A list of puns related to "Sir Gawain"
First of all I hope I asked the right community for this, if not, please be so kind as to direct me to somewhere else :) Now to my question, I'm planning a new tattoo and I'm a big history fan, I already have a greek hoplite on one arm (originally to show my general interest in especially ancient history). I want my new tattoo to go on the other arm and it is supposed to show Sir Gawain, who I have my name from! Now I keep struggling over and over to find reliable information regarding what he might have looked like (if he wouldn't have been fiction). I'm talking about the type of helmet, the armor, the weapon and shield (as far as I understood he wore the pentacle?) and what else I should pay attention to. As far as I know there is some form of description in 'Sir Gawain and the Green Knight', but I'd like to keep in mind the century he supposedly lived in, and what gear was common for that one.
Luckily I keep my tattoos rather minimalistic, as in 2D and just black lines, but still, I want to get all the possible details as accurate as possible. Equally the details should make it obvious that "yes, this must be Sir Gawain". :)
If anyone has any ideas, I'd be very thankful! I hope this is even remotely possible, sorry if my request is way overboard. Have a nice day! :)
I just finished The Green Knight (film) and want to read the poem but unsure of which translation to go with. The two main ones I'm deciding between are J.R.R Tolkien's and Simon Armitage's. Would love to hear your opinions.
Tolkien and Gordon edited the 14th century poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight in 1925 (without translation). His own translation was published posthumously in 1975 as Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Pearl and Sir Orfeo , where line 1610 is thus translated (it is cited in The Annotated Hobbit p308, so you've probably seen it):
>with bred blent ΓΎerwith his braches rewardez
>
>and with them [boar's entrails], blended with blood, the bloodhounds rewarded
bred is translated as blood. Other translators all translate it as bread, like this one.
In both Tolkien & Gordon's 1925 work and the manuscript in the British Library, line 1610 reads bred. And the glossary in Tolkien's 1925 book says bred=bread, which can also be confirmed with any dictionary.
bred also appears in line 891 and 1361, both translated to bread in Tolkien's 1975 book.
Therefore it should definitely be bread.
> By your will. My sword is the embodiment of the sun itself. Under the king's order shall I burn to cinders everything in this world.
Sir Gawain was the right-hand man of King Arthur, Lord of Camelot. He was a well-rounded fellow liked by all, jovial and a pleasant force of goodwill. Gawain was blessed by the sun to have his strength increase threefold under its gaze, which aided him on many campaigns. On the fields of Camlann, Gawain took up combat with Sir Lancelot, the once-calm knight infuriated at what the man he called a friend had done to Arthur's legacy.
In Fate/EXTRA, Gawain is commanded by the heir to the Harway plutocracy, Leonardo Bistario Harway. He wields his sword in service to the king who will bandage the Earth and bring stability to its people.
In the Camelot Singularity, Gawain, along with his brethren who swore allegiance to the Lion King, slew the remainder of the Round Table and were given divine gifts to help them "pacify" the people of the Singularity. Gawain was placed in charge of the Holy Gate, the entrance to the White City of Camelot.

Specifically, why do I find the original text of The Canterbury Tales so much easier to understand and musical to the ear. I love reading it out loud. And why are untranslated editions of The Tales nearly always printed using the modern alphabet but not so for Sir Gawain and the Green Knight?
The Green Knight!
I wanted to make a hero that fights it's own sidekick at times, and so here we are...
Tell me what you think. For those that are initially confused, the original idea was that if a fighter dealt 2 damage or more to the Green Knight, the attack card they used would be added to his hand. This doesnt work for a few technical reasons, 1) Many cards have effects exclusive to their respective fighters, and 2) Due to the card backs all being different, it would be extremely telegraphed when the opponent's card was being played against them. So this way, if, lets say Bigfoot, hits the Green Knight with a "Larger than Life", the 6 value "Knighted" card would be added to the Green Knight's hand instead of the Larger than Life card.
