[Univeristy Psychology] Sensation and Perception Question for Intro Psychology Final Essay

Hi! I am currently writing an essay for my introduction to psychology course. I only have one question left which pertains to the study of biopsychology--which happens to be the unit in which I struggle the most in. I will give you the essay prompt and the overall question, and toss around a few ideas that I had (because I don't expect anyone to answer the question for me directly) and I was hoping we could pass around ideas in order to help me finish the entire essay.

THE PROMPT:"Jane is a normal, healthy female with no physical disabilities or mental health problems. Yesterday on a quiet sunny day, Jane was relaxing in her back yard when suddenly an alien spaceship appeared in the sky above her. Jane had never before experienced a real alien encounter but when she saw the ship, she felt very afraid and ran into her house faster than she had ever run before. Over the next days and weeks, Jane recounted her experience to friends and family. It was an experience she will not soon forget!" NOTE: Assume that this is a real event and not made up in any way by Jane or anyone else.

THE QUESTION: "Describe how Jane’s brain enabled her to perceive the spaceship. Please do not describe how she sensed the ship with her eyes; instead, explain what happened after the image was captured by the retina."

MY IDEAS: As I stated, Biopsych is the unit I did the most poorly on, but I was thinking that I could talk about how the occipital lobe of the brain is the area that processes images so that the brain can understand and interpret them, then deciding what to do with the images. I thought I could also go into detail about the synapses and how the energy thing (I'll have to look up the scientific name, forgive me) goes down the different parts of the nerve and is then passed down to the next nerve and repeats that process.

Does anyone else have any ideas? Anything is sound at this point. Do my ideas seem as if they would fit well with the question at hand? I appreciate anyone willing to help me.

Thank you, starshine1001

Need Advice: Teaching Intro to Psychology, Perception and Sensation and need examples for Visually Impaired Students

Im teaching an Intro to Psych course at University, and have a visually impaired student. When it comes to the perception and sensation examples, all of the engaging examples I have are all sight dependent. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with trying to cover this material, and have found resources that might provide good examples in this case.

Is it possible to truly live without ego? Or will you end up killing yourself very quickly? What is ego exactly? Discover now that in fact understanding what ego is has the power to change ALL of your thoughts, emotions, sensations, perceptions and experiences IMMEDIATELY AND EFFORTLESSLY.

>Ego is needed otherwise suicide will follow in its absence. Ego is pride, right?

No, ego is not pride. Ego is simply when you identify yourself with a limited concept. Like for an example, if I ask you who are you essentially and you say "I am a human being, I am this body and mind, I am my thoughts"; all of these identifications are ego.

Ego can be "I am a smart person" and ego can be "I am a foolish person"; but as long as you identify with any concept at all; that is ego. Why? Because what you truly are is beyond all concepts, and only when you abide as that then you are without ego. And to be without ego mustn't mean you will suicide. In fact the opposite is true. Why do people suicide these days? Because of ego.

For example, take a suicidal person, deeply depressed and socially anxious. He is going to kill himself, and why is it other than the fact that he identifies himself with all kinds of false thoughts? Because the truth is that the being is a wonderful being but he has identified himself with all kinds of false thoughts, false concepts and therefore he has been lead to kill himself thanks to his concept of himself.

So ego has nothing to do with pride, and in a way everything to do with pride; because it is when you insist that you are a limited being, a separate being from the whole that you are arrogant, you are full of pride of the wrong kind; you are not honoring your true infinite nature that is beyond all concepts, and instead worship a false idol; that is ego. You are ignoring the actual reality in favor of some thoughts, or a false concept of yourself. That can be stopped, and you can be at one with your real being whose nature is infinite freedom.

Need help collapsing the duality between the subject (awareness), and the object (thoughts, sensations, and perceptions).

Like the title says, there is an understanding of the witness position present, but in my experience duality has not yet collapsed. There is still the duality existing between awareness and the objects appearing within awareness. Would love some information, pointers, or video recommendations on collapsing this duality! ThanksπŸ™

Edit: Thinking, upon further investigation, even taking a stand as the witness, awareness, or consciousness creates, in itself, the duality that’s trying to be discarded. Neti neti. Void the void. Correct?
