50 years ago, the "Brenner Debate" raged about what caused certain areas of Europe (viz. Britain) to dramatic increases in agricultural productivity c. 1600. What are the most important books on this "Second Agricultural Revolution" from the past decade?

I am very interested in the Great Divergence debate, and am well read in the industrial aspect of it (1700 - 1900), but I am increasingly finding myself having to learn something about agriculture. Please don't suggest me books on industrialization right now. More interested in European agriculture 1350 - 1700.

I have seen this touched on by Joyce Appleby, Tim Blanning, Peer Vries, and Ellen M. Woods, but I want to know who else I am missing, especially as most of those are 15+ years old at this point.

Thank you!

Did children spend more time with parents before the industrial revolution and even agricultural revolution?

I was thinking about how in my society, children from around the age of 5 will spend 6-7 hours at school, and may not see a parent or relative until around 5pm, depending on the parents’ work schedules. Many children are in child care or after school programs because their parents are stuck at work.

This seems depressing and strange to me. Children are spending the majority of their lives away from their family, except for dinner, sleep, and weekends.

I know pre-industrial and agricultural revolutions, parents and older members of the family would still have to dedicate lots of time to hunting, gathering, crafting, etc, but would that mean the same amount of time away from children & other family? Or is it likely humans spent more time with loved ones during that time?

Did/does any collection of humans not influenced by the agricultural revolution use fats for cooking?

I'm talking about pre-neolithic times as well as groups such as the indigenous people of the Potomac River, or today's Virginia, who from what I understand had their methods of farming that is more similar to Permaculture than what we think of as conventional agriculture.

Fat for cooking - whether its butter, lard, tallow, palm oil, etc. takes a bit of processing, and I'm curious about whether other societies have used fat and if so, where and what have they used?

Agricultural Revolution was a mistake (My story and struggle growing up and living most of my life in rural Egypt)

So, I was born in a countryside town in Dakahlia governate (كفر البهايم) as a first son (out of 2 sons) to middle class parents in the mid 1990s. My parents weren't really fond of each other and my mother was basically pressured into the marriage, but this is to be expected in such culture. I don't remember anything about my earliest few years of life, but at the age of 4ish I moved to the City to live with my maternal grandmother, aunt and uncles. This was when my earliest resemblance of a personality manifested. I was a very active kid, excitement-seeking, with immense curiosity for knowledge and acquiring experience from older people. However I also was primarily driven by self-interest, had signs of ADHD, and was a bit too reserved when it comes to casual socializing (all this became especially evident later on). This period was a very bright one but it's worth noting I didn't thoroughly interact with or befriend any peers of my age.

From there I moved back to (كفر البهايم) to live with my parents and get into kindergarten. K.G. was mostly OK, and I mostly was very excited about school and the teachers were rather very nice to me and gave me exceptional praise, but primary school was where things started to get ugly. There my academic performance was very good, but not so much my social one. Classmates were very nosy yet xenophobic (school was in a neighboring كفر بهايم, so I was viewed as a bit of an outsider ) and reeked of (فراخ ميتة) as I would have described; but more crucially, some of the teachers were outright vicious. One didn't like my quiet reserved nature and used to poke me with random questions and whenever I nodded my head slightly or didn't utter a loud and clear answer, he'd strike me viciously in front of the class without a shred of remorse. Other ones would abuse the fact I had a low attention span in class and ask me questions along the lines of "What did I just say?", whether related to the subject or not, and ridicule me egregiously if I fail to answer. Recurrence of those 2 instances caused me to start becoming self-conscious and lose self-respect, as well as prompting classmates, especially girls, to think much less of me. The fact that I have been overweight most of my life and all of my early life helped reinforce this. Also, somewhere at this point, I was repeatedly subdued and sexually molested by my older cousin. Father found out and confronted him, but never made it widely known or took legal actions.

Outside of school;

Are there any ancient texts that allude to, or contain stories from before the agricultural revolution? Were people aware of the age of hunting and gathering at all?

An excerpt from The epic of Gilgamesh reads as follows:

>In those days, in those distant days, in those nights, in those remote nights, in those years, in those distant years; in days of yore, when the necessary things had been brought into manifest existence, in days of yore, when the necessary things had been for the first time properly cared for, when bread had been tasted for the first time in the shrines of the Land, when the ovens of the Land had been made to work, when the heavens had been separated from the earth, when the earth had been delimited from the heavens, when the fame of mankind had been established

The mention of the first bread got me wondering if these people had an idea of the time before bread and the agricultural revolution. Is there anything we can confidently call an allusion to the age before the first civilizations? Was anything carried over, such as oral traditions?

Localisation and effects have all been fully implemented, so lets have a gander at what happened to India after you reunified all of South Asia.

The definition of insanity

Its uhh... yeah its a huge mass. Your previous focuses were based around declaring war, coring land and killing a huge amount of innocents, and anything not related to war wasnt really touched on. As you can tell from the current focuses, going on a war rampage for two straight years has had absolutely atrocious effects.

Turns out everyone becoming a farmer within a year is not particularly viable, though enough reactionaries and the religious liked the idea enough to follow you this far.

Women and Children first? Definitely for the front lines.

In the despair of the ongoing Indian anarchy, it is clear to Callendar that simply reverting back before the industrial revolution isnt enough, for the root cause of the conflict between man and nature will always be man itself. Evolution thus far has created a being focused on manipulating and controlling the environment, something that will inevitably lead to the destruction of the latter. Therefore. the most sane and reasonable thing to do is to tame the most extreme excesses of humanity and...

Well if the Malaria didnt fry Callendar's brain, turning South Asia into a wasteland probably did. Its time to head back, back to the far past, far beyond anything the reactionaries can even dream of.

We all know that the population is increasing exponentially and that we need to feed more and more people. 📈

Therefore, the current agriculture is forced to produce always more, privileging the quantity to the detriment of the quality of our food.
Consequently, the food that ends up on our plates is of poor quality, full of pesticides, and filled with GMOs. This has a direct impact on our health.

At Dulcet Garden we decided to change things.

Starting from the fact that the land is overexploited and limited, we decided to use containers to grow fruits and vegetables.
