San Gabriel, Rio Hondo and LA River tomorrow?
With the rain, will these trails be open and passable tomorrow? I'm looking to do a loop from the Norwalk area to Whittier Narrows, across to the Rio Hondo, down the LA River, across Long Beach then back up the San Gabriel.
Is this doable with the current weather, or should I wait a bit?

Found this in a creek that leads to the San Gabriel River in Central Texas. The area is known for having fossils and limestone. No idea what it is. What do you think it is?

Cafes or places to eat near San Gabriel River Trail
Riding the trail starting in Azusa until I feel like turning around (maybe as far as Lakewood or might just do the whole out and back). Are there any good cafes or cheap eats to stop at along the trail?

Planets painted along the San Gabriel River path?
Does anyone know the story behind the planets that are painted along the San Gabriel River path? I've only seen a few, I've seen Jupiter in the Santa Fe Dam area, and another, I forget which maybe Uranus painted near the Whittier Narrow Dam. I can't find any information on this online. I'm assuming it's a map to scale of how far apart the planets are. I'm curious if there's a list of where each of the planets are, or where they start and end?

San Gabriel River Path > East Side?
I'm planning a century route that involves taking the San Gabriel River Path north from Long Beach, and terminates at my apartment in Los Feliz. What's the best way to maximize the amount of time I'm on the SGR trail that gets me back to downtown LA safely (in terms of minimal traffic/good routes)? I can get home pretty easiily once I get to DTLA. I've haven't found a great bike-friendly solution for the gap in Downey/Bell Gardens/Vernon. TIA!

Los Angeles River Trail vs San Gabriel River Trail -- which is better? And other trail questions
Hi, I'll be in Southern California in a few weeks. I want to do some long-distance cycling. The last time I was in town, I rode the Santa Ana river trail from Irvine, down to the start at the shore, and all the way up to Corona, and then took the train back. I've also ridden down to Tijuana from Orange County.
I recently learned about the San Gabriel River Trail, and I'm thinking of taking Amtrak to Union Station, metro to Azusa, and then riding it down to Seal Beach and riding back to Irvine. It will take me two hours to get to Azusa from Irvine, but I'm not sure if there's any other way.
A few questions:
-
Is there any other way?
-
At some point, I can branch off to the LA River Trail. Which is better? I saw a stray remark that saud San Gabriel is cleaner, and it will end closer to Irvine for me, which is a plus.
-
Are there any interesting things to see along the way on either trail? I'm mostly interested in cultural institutions and eateries.
-
If I do the LA River Trail next time, is there an easy way to get to it by public transport?
-
I see that I can get to the LARIO (Los Angeles River/Rio Hondo) Bike Trail from this page, #3. Is that the same as the Los Angeles River Trail? It seems like it:
https://la.streetsblog.org/2020/01/29/thirteen-fun-family-friendly-bike-rides-accessible-via-metro-transit/
Maybe next time I take a train to bus from Irvine, then ride up the LA River Trail to Azusa, then metro to Union Station and Amtrak back to Irvine. That's a lot of time on public transport though....
Thanks!

I was thinking about riding the river trails today but I was wondering if the parts under bridges might be flooded after the rain. Does anyone know if the trails are rideable right now?
