What do you think is the reason for my recurrent miscarriages given my IVF results

Dear embryologists, I would love to hear your 2 cents on my situation. I’m 35 yrs old, my husband is 36. We started trying 2.5 years ago. My first pregnancy was after timed intercourse and Clomid, ended at 11 weeks (fetus stopped growing at 9.5 weeks). Tried for 6 months didn’t get pregnant again. Second was after my third medicated IUI, ended at 8 weeks after seeing heartbeat but was possibly interstitial ectopic. Stopped trying and moved to IVF. I was on an ultra-long lupron protocol. Produced 15 eggs, 13 were fertilized. Because I got OHSS all were frozen in 2PN stage as per the law in my country. For next cycle FET 6 were unfrozen and I had 3 5day embryos. My doctor said this is a very good result and does not point to my eggs being the problem of our miscarriages. I had one embryo transferred, got pregnant, blighted ovum.

My husband and I both had a recurrent loss panel done where everything came back normal. His SA is normal except for low morphology.

My question is- as PGT-A is forbidden in my country, what would you suggest I do? Could the reason for my miscarriages still be bad eggs? Is it my husbands sperm? Or is it immunology? Bad luck? Should I keep transferring? We only want one child and still have 2 Day 5 embryos and 7 2PN frozen.

Really would appreciate your thoughts!

Thank you!

MTHFR mutation & recurrent miscarriages

Hi everyone!

I posted this in r/endoTTC, but I had a few questions for y’all.

I finally got some test results back that might be able to shed some light on my recurring miscarriages.

β€œmthfr mutation homozygous abnormal” I was curious if anyone has received this diagnosis/result? If so, did you go on to have a healthy pregnancy? Was there anything supplements, exercise, etc., that helped with this?

I appreciate any & all advice! Thank you all so much!!

Recurrent miscarriage

I was diagnosed with CD in April 2021 after 6-7 years of suffering. It seems like the main problem I had before my diagnosis was endometriosis and large, recurrent ovarian cysts. I had a first trimester miscarriage in 2019 before my diagnosis. I had a second first trimester miscarriage this month. I’ve read a lot of research that celiac disease causes miscarriage. Any ladies have this traumatic experience?

Recurrent Miscarriage exams

Hi all - I would like to open an opinion box for those in similar situation:

Had 3 miscarriages (all around the same time 6-7 weeks), in theory I could now be referred to a specialist - but if you went through similar, I would like to know what exams your OB/GYN was able to request themselves before referring you. I ask because going to a fertility specialist will unchain a whole new world of expenses for us, so I want to make sure my OB did everything she could in terms of exams.

I had so far:

Blood clot panel (only bc family history)

Metabolic Panel

Complete Blood Cell Count

RH Factor

All came back normal, but in my opinion, besides the blood clot panel and RH, all others seem pretty basic to me (I’d have them annually ordered by my family doctor.)

Before seeing a specialist did you all have more exams than the above? If so, which? I appreciate your help, thanks.

Endometritis and recurrent miscarriage?

Anyone who has been diagnosed with chronic endometritis go on to do the treatment and then finally see an end to recurrent miscarriages?

I have had two chemical pregnancies and two blighted ova, with one live birth in the middle. I cannot fathom another loss and I am trying to understand if I need to get checked for this and/or just do the doxy treatment as a way to rule out yet another cause of miscarriages.

Recurrent Miscarriage - normal test results, what could it be?

Hi All

Here after another loss and hoping to get some advice from those experiencing recurrent miscarriages?

I’ve had the full suite of tests. I mean, we’ve spent thousands of dollars on genetic testing, karyotyping and all of the usual blood tests (thyroid etc) that would identify miscarriage issues. I’ve had scans of my uterus, ovaries and even my breasts. Likewise my partner has had his tests. My egg count is super high so that’s not an issue we face currently. Absolutely nothing explains why this has happened four times now. At first I thought I was just unlucky but this is obviously not the case.

I’m putting this down to poor egg quality but that’s the only logical assumption I can make at this stage and have been doing reading on how I can improve this.

Has anyone else had additional testing done that’s revealed the cause of recurrent miscarriages? If it is egg quality, how did you test this?

FYI they’ve given me a pot to β€œcollect” my miscarriage (pending) to send this off for testing.

Thanks all, appreciate your advice xox

Subchorionic hemorrhage w/ recurrent miscarriage

Long post warning. Please read πŸ™‚ Hi, I’m 21 years old with a healthy 3 year old. I had no issues with her pregnancy at 18. My husband and I decided about a year ago we wanted more so we started ttc. I have had 5 miscarriages in the past year and a half, the furthest one lasted 6w2d, never saw a heartbeat with any of them and had multiple ultrasounds. Found out I have the mthfr mutation along with elevated antiphospholipids. Fast forward to now. I am currently pregnant at 7 weeks. We saw the heartbeat at 6w2d which came as a total surprise! Everything is progressing well, however I did find out I have a small subchorionic hemorrhage. Last night I had a pretty decent sized clot pass and I went to my doctor today and the baby was still doing great with a heart rate of 118bpm. OB told me bed rest and since I’ve came home and rested my bleeding has slowed tremendously with no clots. But she also said this pregnancy is 50/50 on progressing. So now I’m paranoid. Anyone else experience subchorionic hemorrhage with recurrent miscarriage and everything went well? If you made it this far, thanks for reading. :) EDIT: I am on L-methylfolate prenatals along with DHA. Also on one aspirin daily along with lovenox injections daily.

Recurrent miscarriages with endo query

A little background. I have had three miscarriages. One chemical in 2018 and 2 early miscarriages (6 weeks, 7 weeks) in the last 6 months. We have actively been trying to get pregnant since Dec 2019 but before that we weren't doing much to prevent it and we've been together since 2015. I'm super scared of having another miscarriage and I want to have faith it'll all be ok but the unknowns are a bit overwhelming.

My obstetrician is my endo surgeon and she told me that my endometriosis is why it's been hard for us to get pregnant. However she said endo is not the cause of our miscarriages.

I've been reading a lot of studies and online stuff and I'm understanding that my endo could likely be a contributing cause if not the main cause for our miscarriages. I understand it's possible there could be another reason but I'm not understanding why my doctor is so sure endo didn't contribute at all.

I'm not sure how relevant endo location is...I had endometriosis on left pelvic wall and one small endometrioma on my right ovary.

I have two questions I am super keen to have answered.

  1. Has anyone else suffered recurrent miscarriages and had a successful pregnancy post laparoscopy?

  2. If you've been in a similar(ish) situation what did your doctor say about endo and miscarriage risk?

Thanks heaps for reading.

Letrozole For Recurrent Miscarriage Treatment?

Curious if anyone has heard of this treatment?

For context, I’ve had two back-to-back early miscarriages at 6ish weeks. I ovulate anywhere from CD 14 to CD19. So my cycles are anywhere from 28 to 35 days usually. I get the EWCM and dark OPKs and all that...that’s how we got pregnant the first two times. I thought this was still pretty β€œnormal” until my doc said that late ovulation can lead to old/low quality eggs?! She wants to start me on Letrozole to force earlier ovulation and hopefully higher quality eggs. Followed up with progesterone at 3dpo since that is likely low as well.

Has anyone ever heard of this or been successful after multiple losses? I’m skeptical because I see women who ovulate late have successful pregnancies all the time.

Looking for advice - Endometriosis, recurrent miscarriage and ivf

Hey everyone. I'm hoping for some advice as I have no one else who has experienced this to turn to, and my Doctors are useless.

Brief history - 4 early miscarriages & now 3 years infertility on/off trying for this time with no positive tests. Had a uterine septum resection, still no luck. High NK cells detected. Tried progesterone and a few months of prednisolone, again, no luck. Baby aspirin, vitamins, acupuncture. Feel like I've tried everything? I ovulate and all blood tests always come back fine.

Then got diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis. This is on my ovaries but my tubes are clear. Also have adenomyosis - obviously not what anyone wants to hear whilst ttc with infertility and a history of recurrent miscarriage. Still haven't been told this is what's causing my issues (they won't say that it is?!) but I guess it is.

I will be eligible for IVF in December, we get 2 rounds on the nhs. I'm feeling VERY nervous about this. Firstly because of my miscarriage issue - I never found the cause and if the cause of this IS the endo.. well... I don't want the pressure of 'wasting' two free ivf rounds without being clued up on any extra treatment I might need. Also have no idea on how the ivf works.

Been told to wait until December for when my 3 years is "up", but have also been told if I have another miscarriage in that time.. the ivf 3 years resets and we will have to wait/go privately. So we are now not trying anymore until then (which is very hard after 4 years!)

Does anyone have any advice? Have you done ivf and had positive results? Does anyone know of anyone who has endo/losses and ivf worked for them? I would appreciate any help or what you would do in my position.. very panicked and lost at the moment.

Metformin and/or Keto for Recurrent Miscarriage?

Edit: Reading a bit more on metformin, my concern is its usage in the context of zero carb since it is a gluconeogenesis inhibitor. Seems like there are three approaches: 1) Metformin with exogenous carb source 2) Zero carb without metformin (relying on gluconeogenesis for carb needs) 3) Zero carb + metformin and risk hypoglycemia? #1 seems to be the typical protocol, but how do you determine what carbs, quantity of carbs, and dose of metformin? Seems like #1 is a guess and #2 would be far more dialed in producing what the body needs when the body needs it and no more (assuming gluconeogenesis pathway is functioning properly). Looking forward to your thoughts!!!

Has anyone (who has experienced Recurrent Pregnancy Loss) avoided Metformin by sticking to a strict zero-carb or keto diet while pregnant and been successful (live birth)? My doc wants me to start Metformin - all tests/blood work are fine, except my A1c is a bit high at 5.6. I wonder if I can solve for insulin resistance by being super strict with my diet? Or am I better off with a low dose of Metformin + keto to avoid another miscarriage? I’d love to hear success protocols, including keto vs zero-carb. Thank you!

Recurrent miscarriage success stories?

I am starting IVF in June, been trying 3 years and had 3 chemical pregnancies. No cause has been found for the CPs, and i've had a lot of tests done. I'm just really worried that all the money and strife of IVF will be for nothing when even if I eventually get that positive... I feel like i'm going to lose it again anyway? I have a friend who has offered to be a surrogate for me in the past and i'm starting to wonder if I should even bother seeing if an IVF baby can implant in my uterus any better, or just assume it won't and go straight to surrogacy. So basically, i'm asking if anyone with a similar track record has had success, or even if anyone with a similar track record would advise not to bother?

Thanks 😣

Fertility Clinic Recommendations (particularly for recurrent miscarriages / RPL)

Hello,

It’s looking like I am going through my 2nd loss within the last 6 months. I’ve looked at doctors in the area and many recommend testing after 2 consecutive miscarriages (instead of waiting for 3, which used to be the guidelines). Obviously this is super stressful and can be really expensive. I’ve read reviews and most are mixed (which makes sense since those who still struggle to conceive may not give the best rating).

Does anyone have any great experiences or recommendations?

Update: I am very happy to say that despite a bumpy start, my little guy stuck around. I am currently over 15 weeks and things have progressed normally so far. I am very hopeful.

If I did end up needing further investigation, based on responses and research, I would have gone with ACRM.

Celiac and recurrent miscarriages

Hello. I am currently awaiting the results of my labs, as I finally sought help for the GI symptoms I've had forever. My doctor strongly suspected Celiac and it feels like all of the pieces of the puzzle are coming together.

I was wondering if anyone had experienced recurrent miscarriages as a (potential) result of Celiac's. I had two back to back miscarriages without any valid explanation (other than coincidence, which of course is also a possibility) and I've always had a difficult time getting pregnant. I've read about it anecdotally recently without doing too much digging, but just wanted to see if there was a connection.

IVF - Recurrent Miscarriages

Hi all, my husband and I will be starting IVF in February after having five recurrent miscarriages this year. I had an ectopic in October so I have to wait three months since I had the methotrexate shot. We are planning on doing ICSI and PGS testing.

It has been frustrating because my husband and I have had so much testing done with my reproductive endocrinologist and the only thing found was low vitamin d (went from 21 to 27 so I started taking 5,000 iu a day), and heterozygous MTHFR C677T. I’m taking a prenatal with folate and hoping that’s enough needed for MTHFR.

I am looking for others experience with IVF after having recurrent miscarriages. Did your doctor want you to have an ERA before first transfer?

History: MMC at 9 weeks, D&C Blighted ovum at 7.5 weeks Ectopic at 5-6 weeks 2 chemicals 30, husband is 35 with high sperm count and morphology but his count is so high he still has normal count of good sperm

PCOS - solutions for recurrent miscarriage

Hello all! Apologies firstly if this is triggering for anyone - forewarning: the below contains info about miscarriage.

Firstly can I say how glad I am to have found a community with fellow PCOS-ers, in a place where others can not only relate and empathise, but share insight, experience and solutions. Drs are great and all but it’s hard not to feel deflated when the one size fits all protocols don’t have the desired effect, and the medical progress and knowledge within the field is too limited to allow you to be treated as an individual, for your individual symptoms & experiences rather than what’s been captured in large scale studies to date. So many of us become our own advocates, researching and seeking answers, and that’s why I so value hearing from other PCOS-ers.

I’m clutching at straws here but wondering if anyone has experienced and found solutions to recurrent miscarriage as a result of PCOS?

Quick profile: 33F, not on birth control since 18yo, no natural pregnancies. With husband for 10y now, married for 5.5y. We started pursuing fertility treatment around 2012/13 but not eligible for NHS treatment because criteria requires BMI <30 (arghhh PCOS + weight = chicken + egg scenario, so to prohibit fertility treatment for those with PCOS, due to a major symptom of PCOS (weight gain) seems massively detrimental and short-sighted to me; but I’ll spare you my ranting frustrations on that particular topic). Anyhoo... as time went on and exhaustive weight loss ventures proved fruitless we opted to pursue private IVF treatment (been actively receiving treatment since May 2019) : 5x embryo transfers, 4 pregnancies, all early miscarriages (within 5-8 week range).

I read β€˜It starts with the egg’ and immediately put recommendations into practice, including taking all recommended supplements - this was probably from May 2020 onwards, but I’d already been taking Myo-inositol for a couple of years by then.

I then started keto in June 2020 and, from my heaviest to lightest, I’ve lost 41 pounds (around 18% body weight) and saw great improvements in many PCOS symptoms, but sadly still experienced miscarriages. I now meet NHS criteria and expect I should be picked up on the waiting list in around 10 months. In the interim my husband and I have opted to continue with private clinic, continuing with frozen embryo transfers for remaining embryos. I’ve been seen by the recurrent miscarria

Recurrent miscarriage with different partners - surely that means something?

I've suffered three early miscarriages since we started trying last year so we're currently undergoing fertility testing and due for a consultation next week. Testing to date has been all the standard tests I think, and both SO and I have been told we're extremely healthy and everything looks good.

However I can't stop thinking about the fact that my SO had three miscarriages with his ex in the process of getting their 3 children. I don't want to blame him but he's had 6 miscarriages which seems a lot when the chance of miscarriage is 25%. And the chance of someone having 3 MCs is apparently less than 1% so has he really somehow happened to pick two people that both fit that 1%? Seems incredibly unlucky.

Are there extra tests we should be pushing for him to do to make sure there is nothing going on with him?

At what point did you seek out a specialist/ maternal fetal medicine for recurrent miscarriages?

Hello,

I just went through my second early miscarriage in the past 6 months. My regular OB ran a bunch of tests and determined that everything came back 'normal'. She ran tests to look into any potential clotting issues, hormone levels etc. While I am very thankful I am medically otherwise healthy at this point I was hoping I would get an answer. I am afraid to just keep trying and go through this all over again. (And I am aware that many recurrent miscarriages go unexplained, and that many people have gone through many more than just two).

Just wondering for anyone that saw a specialist/ maternal fetal medicine...at what point did you go, and did it help? My OB basically said at this point it can't hurt but also may not help. I also don't know if I am overreacting and looking into this too soon?

Thanks for any advice you guys may have!

Hashimoto’s and recurrent miscarriages

Hello! I am a 25 year old female in the U.S. I was originally diagnosed with hypothyroidism in June and out on 25mcg of levothyroxine. After my next round of blood work, my Dr told me that I actually have Hashimoto’s and upped my medication to 50mcg.

I only found this out after visiting an OB//GYN to start trying to conceive and ask for advice after having 2 miscarriages even though I had an uncomplicated, first pregnancy in 2016. My first miscarriage was in 08/18 and it ended in a chemical pregnancy. My next miscarriage was in 07/19 and was thought to be ectopic, so I was given 4 doses of methotrexate to end it.

The OB/GYN said that this disorder isn’t preventing me from getting pregnant, just from staying pregnancy and that by starting levothyroxine I should have no more issues. He told me to continue to ttc.

Well, I found out I was pregnant on Friday (08/21) and before I could get blood work done, I lost the pregnancy. I’m kind of at a loss of what to do. I asked for more instruction of what lifestyle changes would help and I was told just to work out and eat healthy, which I already do.

Here are my labs from 7/31 that my dr used to diagnose me with Hashimoto’s:

TSH w/ Reflex to FT4: 3.6 mIU/L TPO: 2 IU/mL Th: 4 IU/mL

TLDR: 3 consecutive miscarriages, new Hashimoto’s diagnosis, put on 50mcg of levothyroxine and need some advice.

So has anyone experienced this issue? Is there anything in addition to thyroid medication that helped you have a successful pregnancy?

A child free life after recurrent miscarriage - is this my choice or trauma talking?

Hi All, glad to have found this sub. I follow other CF subs but it's not quite the same when the choice was taken away from you.

I have had 6 miscarriages, and we are now for the first time really exploring the idea of scrapping treatments and embracing a child free life. We were looking into surrogacy, adoption is near impossible where I am, but I can't help but wonder why I never really considered being child free before.

We just assumed we'd have children, and like many people I imagine don't think we really grasped the enormity of the decision. But here we are, having to really interrogate our reasons for wanting it, and realising that while not having children is a sacrifice, so is having them. Sacrifice of my time, sleep, money, energy and freedom.

We started talking about what our lives might look like without it, lots of travel, financial freedom, getting PhDs, really focussing on our happiness, and we both felt quite excited? So many possibilities we had never given much thought to.

I can't tell if this is just because the prospect of putting the last 2 years of mental and emotional trauma is SUPER appealing (I dread the thought of more needles, surgeries etc) or if this is real.

How do you know what is the right choice?

There are theories its immune related, and this theory of "hyperfertility" which may not be helping, but its all speculation.

I've had so many tests, surgeries, and we are seemingly healthy, chromosomally normal people.

I'm just wondering are there any less common tests I should be asking for? It feels like madness to continue doing this over and over and getting the same outcome.

Did any of you ever get an explanation?

Recurrent miscarriage and adenomyosis

In the last year and a half I’ve had 3 miscarriages in a row (all in between 7-9 weeks). I’m 33 and now seeing a fertility specialist for a bunch of tests and a recent MRI clearly showed Adenomyosis. I never knew - periods are a little heavy and painful but nothing unmanageable. My doctor recommended IVF with a 4-5 week course of Lupron to suppress my hormones (effectively early menopause) and reduce inflammation in my uterus in between egg retrieval and embryo implantation. Has anyone tried this? Seen any success? I’m terrified that after going through IVF/Lupron I’ll just miscarry again.

I currently had my second miscarriage in one year (recurrent miscarriage). And for the current miscarriage I had a D & C done and after the test I was told that it show abnormal results. Triploidy of paternal origin detected. Has anyone gone through this and had a healthy pregnancy?

2nd consecutive loss today - does anyone have success stories to share after recurrent miscarriages?

Feeling like we are doomed to fail after this loss (2nd in 3 months) and could really use some success stories to help push through. We saw a strong heartbeat and perfect development at my 8w appointment, but I started bleeding Sunday and confirmed today there is no longer a heart beat. Anyone have consecutive losses post heartbeat detection and still find success? Any suggestions for going into my 3rd attempt? My OB said two in a row is nothing to worry about, and additional testing won’t be done until after the 3rd loss - but I feel like I just can’t wait around for another failure.

How do you cope with recurrent miscarriage, which I’m pretty sure I now qualify for as I believe this is my 3rd MC?

Hi everyone,

I know everyone has different coping mechanisms. The first loss I found ok, these things happen, you deal. The second I raised an eyebrow but was reassured less than 1% have a third.

Now I’m bleeding and there’s no way this isn’t a MC.

I know that now my public health system will start to investigate but I’m at such a loss as to how to I deal with this. I think I use work as a really unhealthy distraction. All I do is look for distraction.

Can anyone share how they personally cope with the feelings of anger, resentment, hopelessness... and maybe it will help us all.

Greeting! :) Follow my journey for baby #1 with Recurrent Miscarriages.

Hi all! This is my first time posting and I felt like I would share my experience in hopes that I can meet someone along the way with a similar road to baby as I do!

I'm 28 years old. Been officially TTC for 1 year this November with very irregular periods. Sometimes they're 28 days to 60+ days. Doctors have all scratched their heads at me and are confused as to what may be causing my miscarriages. I have had tons and tons of blood work done and nothing has given them any clue. I've had ultrasounds done and one doctor said "I don't feel comfortable diagnosing you with PCOS as PCOS women have 25+ cysts on their ovaries. You have 19." So I am on the fence whether I actually have PCOS or not. I've had 4 chemical pregnancies back to back. As devastating as that may be, it's also a relief that we know I CAN get pregnant.

So far, one doctor was able to hone in on my low progesterone during my last pregnancy that ended at 5.5 weeks. Started progesterone pills but it was already too late. Other than that, they're stunned that I've lost 4 babes consecutively.

I've tried Vitex for well over 6 months. Did not regulate my hormones. Did nothing for me. Conceived on 1st month of Vitex but lost it at 4.5 weeks. Stopped Vitex. Was only taking prenatals. Conceived 3 other times and lost all by or before the 5.5 mark.

My fiance and I took a break from TTC and during the break I discovered Maca root. I've been taking maca pills for about 3 months and I have noticed some positive changes. Mentally, I feel in a much better state. I'm happier, less stressed and anxious. My period is WAY lighter. No cramps whatsoever. Becoming more regular and I feel less moody and cranky. However, I was not able to catch Ovulation last cycle. My nipples usually get REALLY sore and painful after O and that did not happen this past cycle so AF crept up on me while I Was still taking OPK's trying to catch my surge.. In frustration I ordered Myo Inositol with D-Chiro 40:1 pills. I've been taking these pills for almost two weeks now. My OPK's are starting to get darker so here's to hoping that I get my positive soon!!

Does anyone else have any success using Inositol?

Would love to get your feedback!

I’ve been seen by the recurrent miscarriage clinic (NHS) who tested me for antiphospholipid (aPL) antibody and l

Success After Recurrent Miscarriages?
