I've been re-reading my way through all of King's books during the pandemic. I've experienced my share of blue chambray shirts, as we all have, but I've also noticed several books mention a quonset hut in a setting. Just an interesting tidbit that has popped out as I read.

Is the Quonset in Coastal highway a good base?
I've played the long dark for about 155 hours and i've never really had a safehouse outside mystery lake. I was wondering if the Quonset was a good base, I don't want to choose any of the island houses because one has a bear and I really don't need another run in with a bear.
So I just want to know, is the Quonset a good base?
It all started with the first moose I seen in about 45 days, which just so happened to be behind Quonset. I admit there were points I could’ve stopped, But I needed revenge for every good run that was ended by these wolves, Not only mine but yours also.

I really like the quonset huts. I would love to have 1 in my camp. I think it eould be very nice for those with military themed camps.

Quonset hut retrofit
We have put up another quonset hut and we would like to build a fireproof room inside of it to store our most prized possessions in case of a bugout scenario.
The hut is on a cement slab and is fully enclosed. We plan on dirt berming it to one quarter height this year and also placing a dedicated water tank with sprinklers and generator.
However if for some reason we had to leave I would prefer that all of my antiques and other memorabilia was as protected as possible.
I would love suggestions on what materials or features would best be incorporated into the design. Please keep in mind that it is not intended for use by anything that breathes. Thanks.

(OC) My house that my parents built in the early 80’s. Dunno if it’s Porn quality but I thought I’d post. It’s a standard Quonset design but half way down they shifted the structure over half the width and carried on. All cedar construction.
