Algorand will be the first blockchain to provide post-quantum security. It will be done via state-proofs that will be released in early 2022.

Decipher, Algorand's major conference, is currently underway. There, Gary Malouf, Head of Engineering at Algorand, and Rotem Hemo, Director of Product Management at Algorand, just announced that state proofs will come to Algorand in early 2022. With stateproofs, Algorand will be the first blockchain to provide a post-quantum security solution. On the roadmap are post-quantum secure catchup (integrating state proofs in to the catch-up process), zk-SNARK proofs (efficient and cheap verification of state proofs) and light clients (tools to help entities use state proofs). So your transactions will live forever on the blockchain.

Other exciting news in my opinion were:

  • Francis Suarez, 43rd Mayor of Miami, has agreed to receive every other paycheck in Algo
  • Hivemind, a $1.5 billion venture to institutionalize crypto investing, has selected Algorand as a strategic partner
  • Moreover, bank-issued stablecoins ("Digital Deposit Receipts") will come to Algorand and Ethereum. VCAD was minted yesterday on the Algorand mainnet. US Dollar version will follow.
  • AXA XL, the U.S. subsidiary of AXA S.A., the world's third-largest insurer, is working with Algorand on an art insurance platform (money for your art)
  • One of the world's leading manufacturers/retailers will introduce a first-of-its-kind Buy Now, Pay Later platform on Algorand
  • 1&1 is working on a digital-asset exchange and commerce engine that will create fungibility across cryptocurrencies, loyalty points, rewards, and fiat currencies

What if subatomic particles quantum states are combinations of past and future quantum states of a composite atomic system?

The two-state vector formalism is a time-symmetric description of quantum mechanics that states that a present quantum state is caused by a combination of a past quantum state |Ψ⟩ that evolves forward from the past, and a future quantum state ⟨Φ| that evolves backwards from the future.

In a similar way, the transactional interpretation of quantum mechanics, leaning on the Feynman and Wheeler's electrodynamic absorber theory, proposes that a retarded wave |Ψ⟩ (described by the Schrodinger equation) that evolves forward in time (from past to future) "handshakes" with its complex conjugate advanced wave ⟨Φ| which evolves backward in time (from future to past), taking place a transaction interchange (of energy, momentum, etc) between them.

I propose you here a time symmetric composite atomic model of two intersecting longitudinal waves vibrating with equal or opposite phases. A highly expanding wave |Ψ⟩ that stars to contract will represent a past quantum state that evolves forward to a future highly contracting state; and a highly contracting wave ⟨Φ|(being ⟨Φ| the complex conjugate of |Ψ⟩ ) that stars to expand will represent a future quantum state that evolves backward to a past highly expanding state.

The expanding or contracting states of the cobordian orthogonal and transversal longitudinal subwaves that form the nucleus shared by the dual system will be consequence of the "meeting" or "handshaking" quantum states of the forward and backward evolving intersecting waves.

Partial picture showing only the expanding or contracting subatomic longitudinal waves.

Whole picture showing the intersecting waves and the nuclear subwaves they form

The physical properties in terms of density, volume, inner kinetic energies, or displacing pushing forces of each subwave and the transactional transference between them will be different depending on the phase of vibration of the intersecting waves.

With equal phases, if the left intersecting wave contracts as - ⟨Φ| while the right one expands as +|Ψ⟩, the orthogonal subwave will move towards left acting as an electron, the left transversal subwave will be contracting acting as a - ⟨Φ| anti proton, and the right handed transverdsal subwav

What Quantum Engineering graduate programs exist in the United States?

Hello everyone,

I am currently an 3rd year undergraduate in Computer Engineering and Computer Science. I work with a quantum computing group at my university, and I have an internship at a company in the USA that does quantum computing. I am very interested in quantum information science, as well as control systems for quantum devices. I would like to at least get my master's degree, and I am currently searching for graduate programs in the USA that might be a good fit.

So far, I have found a few:

https://guide.wisc.edu/graduate/physics/physics-ms/physics-quantum-computing-ms/

https://quantum.harvard.edu/graduate-studies

https://ece.duke.edu/masters/study/quantum-computing

https://pme.uchicago.edu/phd-program/quantum-science-and-engineering

Does anyone know of any other programs that emphasize on quantum science and engineering?

Thanks!

What if we could model a Quantum State using Purely Imaginary Numbers?

Hi! I(19M) have been doing some experimental studies with modelling quantum states through alternate mathematics using imaginary numbers without complex numbers(i.e. attempting to solve for sqrt(-x) rather than factor out sqrt(-1)). I think I've come up with a pretty interesting way to model relativity with pure mathematics and would love to engage with others so that I may further develop it. I know this is long, but I've lived my life asking these questions and this is what I've got so far!

From my understanding(and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, I love to learn!), relativity suggests that light is released in quanta, which are little bits/packets of energy. These quanta for light are called photons, and they carry the electromagnetic force according to the standard model of particle physics. Similarly, I understand that light is expressed both as a line(constant vector quantity in linear algebra) and a wave and a photon would then be correlative of a point in Space with a constant instantaneous velocity. From my best attempt at conceptualizing the above, I am led to believe that we may then use imaginary numbers independently of complex compositions, but specifically for the pattern, they follow in iteration to model the movement of a wave function such as light/Energy.

The idea is this, according to Einstein's theory of General Relativity, we could detect whether or not a particle or force exists based on the presence of its Energy. In fact, the Standard Model of Particle physics defines the fundamental different Energies that makeup reality. Mass is gained from the Higgs field, the electromagnetic force from photons, W and Z bosons carry the Weak force, and gluons carry the strong force/gravity. Since those can all be defined in terms of Energy, perhaps our solution would come not from studying different forces and particles, but rather considering them all proofs of the existence of light! After all, E=mc^(2), and so rather than convert mass to energy, allow us to consider the existence of Energy proof of the existence of Light beside any given object or force in the Universe.

That may sound like a crazy idea, but crazy ideas tend to create discussions that lead to crazy knowledge. What if we considered Energy to be the rate at which Light is displaced? The viscosity of an object's Energy would be the very viscosity of its existence, contained inside its potential energy thanks to mass and momentum. At a certain point, specifical
