Other substances such as opium, and alcohol have been used before, but bromides were the first barbiturates which were the first benzos( if that makes sense). Potassium Bromide: obscure cough syrup trip report

The first time I heard about potassium bromide was only five days ago. I tried searching for the mentions of it and found out that KBr is still used in my country as one of the active ingredients in a cough syrup called Pertussin, which contains 12g thyme extract and 1g KBr and comes in 100ml bottle. It is fairly rare here, I had to place my order online with local pharmacy in-store pickup. Supposedly it was used quite frequently in the Soviet Union but eventually was replaced by safer drugs. Even though bromides were succeeded by newer drugs and prohibited for use as medication in most countries, they weren't banned in USSR and Russia as they were never used as sedative or anticonvulsant meds, making bromism cases non-existent. There's no information on recreational use of Pertussin in Russia as it was always overshadowed by other OTC meds, especially barbiturates like Corvalol

link to a Russian pharm wiki, use google translate: vidal.ru/drugs/pertussin__30476

4 bottles cost me 200 rubles (2,60$) but you can buy it as cheap as 0.20$ for one bottle. This syrup kinda tastes like Pepsi. I poured some in my cup and mixed up with Sprite. My buddy took 1g and I had to take 2g since one of my friends started feeling nauseous. He's probably allergic to thyme. I was sipping slow and it started kicking in 15 minutes later. Feels like low dose benzo with sleep deprivation euphoria but you remain functional, it def calms your mind. We were on top of nine-story building watching sun set and talking and even managed to climb down easily. After coming home I decided to listen to some music. Felt good but nothing special, you just feel relaxed and all. Then I went to bed and passed out in a minute. Had great sleep, woke up still feeling calm with no anxiety at all

So that's it. I would like to try it again but with higher dosage, like 3 or 4 grams. My friend who took 1g only felt relaxed and said effects were underwhelming, so I recommend taking 3 grams for the first time.

I forgot to keep track of time and probably made some spelling and punctuation mistakes in this text. The next non-rx drug I'm looking to try is Andipal, which contains 20 mg phenobarbital and 250 mg of metamizole aka dipyrone.

Potassium bromide: the common chemical with little to no experience reports

First off, obviously this is a very bad drug to use at any frequency more than once, just search brominism

This was apparently one of Hitler's frequent drugs of use (and you can see the parralels with his behavior and the symptoms of brominism)

Many years ago it was actually reported most people admitted to mental hospitals were a result of brominism (which was used to treat anxiety and seizures)

However, with that dangerous preclude, brominism doesn't generally develop after a single use , instead over chronis build up. Surely a slippery slope.

My only experience has been once where I dosed 500mg (given that's a typical dose they give dogs)

The dose was expectedly and deliberitly on the low side, however I could definitely compare it to benzos, having the same mechanism along with other slight differences.

The big takeaway was the duration was long, way longer than I anticipated but that was ok as this low dose didn't really inebriate, just like a thereapuetic dose of Klonopin.

Ironically the anxiety of brominism washed away but there wasnt that fiendishness to redose or the need to feel 'fuckrd up' like I get with benzos.

Ultimately I don't recommend it to anyone, this was more for eclectic interest. The temptation of a higher dose lingers, wishing to reconnect with this historical substance.

Potassium Bromide instead of Cadmium bromide...

I am researching into doing this in Japan. I I’ve got an Intrepid 4 x 5 field camera, plan to start with that. There are two chemicals which seem to be difficult to find here. First is silver nitrate crystals. Well its here but highly regulated so it looks difficult to get that over the counter. For silver nitrate I think I’m going to attempt to import it rather than buy it here.

The other one is cadmium bromide. I see most of the recipes for Collodion use cadmium bromide which is unavailable here. I am able to get potassium bromide, however. Can that be used instead?

Potassium Bromide Blood Tests

Hello Everyone, thank you for taking the time to read my post!

American Eskimo, Male, 11 years old, 35lbs, Cluster Seizures since his 1st birthday- over 1 year without seizures!

[Idaho pretty far from the nearest "big city"]

I'm wondering how often potassium bromide blood tests actually need to be performed. I cannot find a legitimate answer online that alludes to after the seizures have been stabilized. He has been on Pheno for 10 years and potassium Bromide for around 6 years. We have always given him the yearly Pheno blood tests, but I have recently begun pursuing my full-time master's degree and therefore we are pretty short on funds. We just tested him for his Pheno levels and they are all within the normal range (including liver).

The problem we are running into is the bromide test is well over $200 here in Idaho. They are wanting to do these tests every 6 months in order to write us a script. This is the longest he has gone without seizures and seems to be really liking Idaho, but this is just ridiculous. We recently moved from a big city in Colorado where they only required testing every year or two depending on how stable he was.

Do I have any options to get a blood test done at home and send it in somewhere online?

He's basically my everything and I hate to feel like the vets here are taking advantage of me, but sometimes small towns SUCK!

Thank you so much for your insight.

Would Bumetanide and Potassium Bromide work for people without Autism?

Let me start off by saying I don’t have Autism, but maybe anti social tendencies sometimes? Also harder for me to be social and hold convos, and look into peoples eyes. Basically social anxiety. I definitely have adhd too.

But I do get the alcohol after flow effect. I actually get a terrible hangover with a bad headache. I usually take excederin and it goes away. Then the rest of the day I feel great.

Also, why is potassium bromide also needed with the Bumetanide? Do they work together in some way?

I believe a user, atlas benched, said this combo has almost completely cured him in another thread.

Has it worked well for anyone else?

Epileptic dog coming off Phenobarbital plan and where to buy Potassium bromide?

Species: Dog

Age: 2 years

Sex/Neuter status: Male, neutered

Breed: Pit Bull Mix

Body weight: 30 lbs

History: Epileptic, having a changes in meds on neurologists orders

Clinical signs: Anemia. 2 weeks ago showed the starting signs of anemia in his blood work, has gotten slightly worse but no intervention is needed as of yet. Assumed his Phenobarbital is the cause and so a medication change is required to avoid it getting worse and needing medical attention or worse.

Your general location: Western NY

Links to test results, X-rays, vet reports etc: I can if they are needed.

I have two questions today since you all have been so helpful with my epileptic pup in the past.

Edit: Forgot to mention, everything is from a veterinary neurologist but he is the only one in the area. Literally the only one. I would have to travel at least three hours to get a second opinion and that is not an option. Also forgot to mention the pup is currently on Keppra, Zonisamide, and Phenobarbital. The plan is to take him off the pheno and put him on the potassium bromide at the same time.

  1. What is a reputable place to purchase Potassium Bromide? The veterinary neurologist said to just do my own research and pick a place and they would write/call in the prescription. I am completely lost on this and could really use a point in the right direction. Local pharmacy? Costco (which is where I get his other pills)? Online animal pharmacy? I don't know. Do I just look for the cheapest option? I know with some medications you don't want to do this but the vet didn't offer any help when I asked.

  2. Since he has to come off the Phenobarbital there is a plan to wean him off of it to hopefully help avoid any seizures caused by the removal. This whole thing felt a bit fast to me so I wanted to input on the plan. Again, this is from a veterinary neurologist.

  • Currently Spud is one 1 tablet twice a day. The plan is to decrease it every 5 days.

  • Decrease the dose of 1 tablets to ½ tablet twice daily.

  • Decrease the dose to ¼ tablet three times daily.

  • Decrease the dose to ¼ tablet twice daily.

  • Decrease the dose to ¼ tablet once daily. Discontinue medication after 5 days of this.

It felt like a big jump to cut his dose in half right away so I guess I just wanted some input on if that is a big jump or not.

Thank you all in advance!

Edit: A typo and some formatting.

Since people seem not to know about this: Bromine not allowed to be used with UV or Ozone in Canada, and all bromine products sold need to be told this

Edit: It seems my source at Jacuzzi Ontario is misinformed, and the decision doesn't apply to Bromine Tablets, but instead only to the bromide powder / salt stuff. Leaving the rest up for discussion.

Here's a link to relevant regulatory decision.

The part relevant here is:

>Cancellation of all bromine swimming pool or spa electrolysis devices and sodium bromide products intended to be used with swimming pool or spa electrolysis devices.
>
>Sodium bromide spa products used in combination with potassium monopersulfate will be removed from Schedule 2 of the Pest Control Product Regulations as part of future regulatory amendments and will no longer be permitted for use.
>
>All chlorine swimming pool or spa electrolysis devices are to indicate that they are not to be used with bromide products.
>
>All remaining sodium bromide swimming pool and spa products are to indicate that they are not to be used in combination with electrolysis, ozonation or UV.

Just providing information, feel free to do with it what you will. I'm gonna stick with Chlorine with my ozone system.

Currently on 8ml and figured I owe this community a quick writeup. So how I beat the taste. Is to put my dose in a shot glass, mix a few ml more of something strong tasting in the shot glass. Don't stop mixing stirring it until right before you do the shot. Hold your nose, take the shot, keep holding your nose and chase it with same strong liquid you mixed the shot with. While still holding your nose, eat a spoonful of PEANUT BUTTER. Hold nose a few moment longer and you're good. Fuck capsuls, gotta take too many. Next best thing to peanut butter is egg nog or chocolate milk. You can thank me later. Just be careful you ingrates, the horrible taste of this stuff was like an built in anti-absue/overdose mechanism. Also, at higher doses I figured music would be awesome just like with ethanol. Definitely not. The songs are boring as fuck and they seem like they are over so fast! It's bizarre. A 4min song is over in 1min. I've read about this effect on potassium bromide. Hope this helps like 2 people since nobody knows about, let alone can stomach this shit lol. Happy new year guys!!!

Can home carbon filters make tap water with gasoline and diesel range hydrocarbons in it realistically drinkable?

edit: I read the Rules and if this post is undergrad level chemistry and breaks your rules, please kindly delete this post but I hope that you won't ban me. Thank you.

Hawaii currently faces a fuel spill in their drinking water and was wondering if chemists can share their knowledge on how effective home carbon filters are to make tap water safe to drink.

To give you an idea of the quantity of contaminants... "State health officials announced on Friday that the Navy’s water system contained levels of gasoline and diesel range hydrocarbons as much as 350 times higher than state standards for safe drinking water." https://www.civilbeat.org/2021/12/how-the-red-hill-fuel-system-has-threatened-oahus-drinking-water-for-decades/

According to this website carbon, filters out gasoline which I'm sure it technically does, but was wondering if a carbon filters that are inserted into a fridge or a Brita carbon filter actually can make the water safe to drink. My assumption is that since you normally don't find gasoline in tap water, these products aren't designed to remove a constant stream of these compounds. If anyone can share anything they know about this and if it is effective how often the filter should be changed or should we even bother?

I have explored around 125 different substances in all different classes of drugs, anxiolytics, analgesics, antispasmodics, anticholinergics, stimulants, and of course my favorite group NMDA receptor Antagonists.(THC Delta 8 MDMA MD 1p-lsd LSD LSA DMT 5-meo-MiPT psilocybi DXM Diethyl ether  Ketamine  Memantine  Nitrous oxide  Salvia MXiPr Dck  O-pce Methoxphenidine 3-Meo-pcp Amantadine Mirtazapine DPH Dramamine Doxylamine  Myristicin Cyclobenzaprine Tizanidine chlorpheniramine Promethazine Amyl nitrate Amphetamine Dextroamphetamine Methamphetamine  Pseudoephedrine Propylhexedrine 2-fma 2-fea 3-fea 3-fm 4-fma 3-mmc 3-cmc 4-cmc Alpha-php Methylphenidate Isopropylphenidate 4f-mph Modafinil Adrafinil Armodafinil Fladrafinil Modafinil Adrafinil  Armodafinil Fladrafinil Nicotine Yohimbine n-acetylcysteine Bromotane prolintane Cyclazdone n methyl cyclazodone Alpha-gpc  Alprazolam Diazepam Clonazepam  Lorazepam Midazolam Clonazolam Flubromazolam Dicazloam Flunitrazolam Flualprazolam pryrazloam Etizolam Fluclotizolam Zolpidem Eszopiclone Hydrocodone  Oxycodone Codeine  Darvocet Tramadol Fentanyl Hydromorphone Meperidine Loperamide Kratom  tianeptine Naloxone  Ethanol GHB F-phenibut  Pregabalin Gabapentin Phenibut  Baclofen Picamilon  Bubitual Propofol  Methocarbamol Clonidine Guanfacine Kava Propanol Metoprolol Potassium Bromide  Valproic acid Trazodone Quetiapine Olanzapine Latuda Aripiprazole Wellbutrin Prozac Lithium Amitriptylin Doxepin Haldol Lamictal Topamax ) Throughout my exploration of these substances, I have got addicted to stimulants, opioids, benzodiazepines, nicotine, anticholinergics, and other GABAergic drugs, but as of the past few months I have currently no addictions, and have a much greatly handle on my drug use. The one thing that I get most excited about is the most obscure drugs; drugs that have been banned by the FDA, drugs that are just hard to find, or drugs people didn't even know were drugs.

That being said Bromides were some of the first sedatives, anteleptics, anxiolytics used in medical practice. Other substances such as opium, and alcohol have been used before, but bromides were the first barbiturates which were the first benzos( if that makes sense). The primary bromides used were Sodium Bromide and Potassium Bromide. These medicines would build up in your system

Where can I buy potassium bromide?

I know it's used as a drug. I want to get it so I can make bromine from it by separating the ions.
