I recently read an article about Kenny Pickettβs tiny hands (of which there have been many) and it mentioned that while his hands may be small, he has a double jointed thumb which aids him in gripping the football. Lol is if just me or does this seem like some shit his agent leaked into the ether as a way to get people to worry less?
At the end of the day teams should just evaluate his ability told onto an NFL ball at various draft events and evaluate based on that, but I just thought the double jointed explanation was funny even if itβs true.
I know Tomlin has mentioned he'd rather go with a veteran, but how can you not think about the potential of another franchise QB?

Where would Pickett and Corral have been ranked amongst the QBs if they were in last year's draft?

Kenny Pickett, Pitt, 23:
Kenny Pickett is an experienced QB prospect concluding his 5th overall year but 4th year as a full starter. In 2021, his performance reflected a clear improvement with a TD-INT of 42-7. In the red zone he was money. 22 TDs in the red zone and only 2 sacks. Statistically, he was at his best within the 10 yard area of the opponent's red zone and during 3rd downs. On early downs, he was most prone to do more than what was needed which resulted in 7 of his 8 interceptions. Turnovers may be an issue, specifically fumbling, due to his hand size which forces him to wear gloves. In 2021 he had 3 fumbles (2 lost) but in past years had 7 fumbles in 2019-2020 and 9 fumbles in 2018.
Accuracy is favorable but he has a tendency to not attack contested receivers in 50/50 situations as much as coaches may like. He is decisive which compliments well with his excellent pocket management and ability to evaluate progressions. Mechanics are best of his draft class coming out of college and if he has space he can launch the ball to a respectable distance, although his arm strength alone isn't elite. Another strength is his ability to improvise throwing mechanics, making off platform or adjusted arm angle throws without a change from his usual velocity.
Concerns start first and foremost with his previous production. He had 12 TDs, 13 TDs, & 13 TDs in years 2018-2020 and 6, 9, and 9 INT respectively. His range of attempts didn't vary as drastically as his TD production. If you remove the 2021 breakout season, his averaged season performance is 13 TD - 8 INT with a completion percentage of 60.3%. In past years, he struggled against ranked teams, throwing 4 TD - 8 INT before 2021. This season he went 2 TD - 0 INT against ranked competition but also had the 70th ranked schedule in terms of difficulty. This is an easier schedule by a big margin vs Corral (19th) or Howell (42nd). Another concern is his ability to improvise late in games as most of his passing success came from 1st & long and early game drives which are typically scripted by the coordinator. As games progressed he would slow down production wise, with a second half stat line of 13 TD - 4 INT vs a 1st half stat line of 29 TD - 3 INT.
Overall, he's a game manager "process oriented" type with an increased tendency to play aggressive as he gained more mastery over the offensive concepts. He will need a patient coaching staff as he may appear too conservative while st

Season over, time to talk draft. Our biggest holes are obviously QB and LB. Not seeing any LBs that should go in the top 10, so figure we pretty much have to go with a QB here, although a big part of me would love to draft Jameson Williams to have a truly elite WR to pair with Terry, making it much easier for whoever the hell is throwing to them. Curious to see what the majority of you guys are hoping to see out of the Washington __________ in the draft this year.
I know this class is supposed to be weak but is Pickett worth a trade up? The only βbadβ thing I have read about him is that he has small hands. Maybe get him and a good middle linebacker in the 2/3/4th and I think we could have something.
Selling a few things that donβt/wonβt get much use. I am NOT interested trades, sorry!
Vero Neuron Nat Micarta Stonewash - $205 SOLD Has been carried a few times, edge was hitting the spacer just a touch so I sharpened it on my KME to 600 grit and stropped with 3 and 1 micron gunny juice. Edge is nice and sharp, and no longer contacts the spacer on a hard close. Action is pretty good, has been taken apart and cleaned and oiled.
Asher Pickett Jade G10 - $45 SOLD A nice, cheap S35VN flipper from Asher. Thin blade with a good grind and good edge, action is solid, wish the detent was a little stronger but itβs pretty good overall and can be middle flicked using the fuller.
White Wing G10 Atom Scales - $45 These have been mounted but never carried, contoured with the win pattern milled on. These can be dyed any color if someone is looking for a fun project, it will not come with screws.
Last QB taken for sure?
I guess it's debatable whether or not players should opt out of bowl games. I mean he has a lot of money on the line so I do get it to a certain extent, although I don't like that trend. That being said this is a New Year's Six bowl and a big deal for the Pitt program so that's tough- especially when it's your QB. But I think it is kind of silly for him to opt out, sit in the coaching booth with a headset, and have the announcers talk about how he wants to "help" his team. I don't know, may be an unpopular take but if it was Michigan I'd be a little annoyed. Funny that Michigan State is still losing at half, LOL.
This is everything we need to know about Kenny Pickett. I went through the trouble of sorting the videos for you. In said videos I breakdown why we don't need the guy. Let me know what you think!
On the Dan Patrick show, Pickett said heβs undecided for the Peach Bowl with Whipple out.
I havenβt been able to watch many Pitt games this year, but obviously Pickett has become quite the topic. Mcshay just made him QB1 in his latest rankings. Does anyone else have him this high? What is this communityβs opinion on this Senior QB? What are his strengths and weaknesses. I am very curious.
Dudes a baller. I havenβt seen a rise like this besides Burrowβs story. I donβt even need to say much else go watch the tape yβall. Heβs the real deal.
