How do I convince my parents to let me go on paroxetine?

I want to a psychiatrist today and after a long talk he prescribed me with paroxetine, the thing is my parents are very anti antidepressants as they think people are addicted to it and controlled by them because of some of their friends being zombies because of it ( which I feel is not the source of their friendsโ€™ problems but ok) and because of the son of friends being more depressed and not working just doing drugs all day. The psychiatrist in question had a good 40 minute talk with my mother about how her concerns arenโ€™t real and it isnโ€™t possible for me to get addicted and dependent, and that if need be, Iโ€™ll stop slowly the medication. She gave in a bought it but I cannot start using it till we sit my father down and convince him: the thing is that he is the โ€œsport fixes everythingโ€ and โ€œIf I say and think something it must be right โ€œ guy and heโ€™s the one who greatly thinks people on antidepressants are addicted, he will most likely throw a fit and yell excessively when I sit him down and probably wonโ€™t listen. How do I convince him? Ps: I am in France and ๐—ฎ ๐—บ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ผ๐—ฟ.

Update: my mother talked to my father and heโ€™s ok ish with it but now he did five minutes of googling and believes heโ€™s a doctor, he told me to only take a fourth of it everyday while my doctor said to take half of one for six days then full ones. He also was like โ€œoh you can try for two days and stop if it doesnโ€™t do anythingโ€ while the doctor said it takes a little more than two weeks to settle in and start to work, and when I told him that he rolled his eyes. So yeah now Iโ€™m hiding them in my room ๐Ÿ˜

Paroxetine vs fluoxetine taper

Hi all,

Slow tapering Paxil due to adverse effects, and having just a hell of a time getting down past 11.6

It seems no matter how slow i go i cant break that threshold.

Im switching to fluoxetine soon. Im wondering, is the taper easier? Sources i read say fluoxetine minimizes risk of withdrawal. Im wondering, even if i have withdrawal (probable), will it be easier than Paxil?

I dont mind some w/d symptoms. I just need them to be manageable and reasonable.

Paroxetine 20mg - cured

I developed PE after having Covid back in 2020.

A few weeks on paroxetine 20mg. No side effects. Iโ€™ve been railing my GF like a fucking pornstar. 10mg had no impact. Day three on 20mg, I was able to fuck for 30 minutes. I came only when I told my brain to do it, and I did it because my GF was getting sore.

My refractory period is short too, so weโ€™re able to fuck for hours if we want to.

Zoloft didnโ€™t work. I had side effects on Zoloft (emotional numbing).

Donโ€™t be afraid to give the SSRI a shot.

Remeron, paroxetine weight gain

Hi everybody, was hoping to gain some insight on whatโ€™s happening to my body atmโ€ฆ

Last year I started Antidepressants, I was placed on escitalopram and stayed on them for about 8 months, I was also a full time smoker and weighed about 65kg which I was happy with. I take meds for my panic attacks, anxiety and sensorimotor OCD.

What I found was I started to become a binge drinker, and before I knew it I couldnโ€™t sleep without drinking.

I went to DR and was prescribed remeron or mirtazapine, and stopped drinking every night which was great! I also weaned off the escitalopram which I was happy about as remeron made me feel amazing and no sexual side affects anymore!!

Thennn, I gained a good 15kg and now Iโ€™m so unhappy with my body. I havenโ€™t been eating much, maybe 2 meals a day, plenty of water and cannot lose the weight. Now switched to paroxetine and weaning off remeron in hope to lose all the extra weight I gained.

Any ideas? Iโ€™m so unfit and just want to feel healthy again

Paroxetine - can't think

Hello! I've been taking paroxetine for Anxiety and OCD along with other meds for almost 2 years now. And i have trouble thinking, while i do math for example. I was taking 25mg, then 12.5mg and now again 25mg. When i told my psychiatrist about it she increased the dosage from 12.5mg to 25mg even tho I told her i was having same symptoms when i was taking 25mg.

I am unable to think like I did before. I was able to think about math, science etc but now it is like an effort which fails.

What can I do to solve this? I'm thinking about quitting the treatment, if this is the right choice can anyone give me an action plan?

An absolute success with paroxetine and exercises

Hello guys. I'm here to finally relate a total sucess and how I achieved it (if my English is bad, please sorry. It's not my first language)

Well, I'll not tell here the background. It's the same for us all. The story starts when I decided to put an end to it. First of all I've tried Kegel exercises. I can keep a contraction for 1 minute or more, without pain. I've done a lot of exercises, but it doesn't helped me. So I've tried start-stop technic, with and without porn. This made me realize that my problem wasn't philological as I thought, but the anxiety: with porn, 1 minute was too long. Without, 5 minutes was just the warm up. So, I've decided to "train" only with porn to follow the idea "if I can last on the hardest, I can last on the easiest".

And training with porn was a middle sucess. From less than 1minute to 2 minutes is not what I call a great achieve. Them, and only them, I visited a doctor. He prescribed me paroxetine 15mg, and I used it for 60 days. After this, I increased the dose to 20mg and used for more 60 days.

In the middle term i kept training (start stop, 15/20min a day, with porn in half of the time, without ejaculating for 5 days straight). And this weekend I had a chance to put it all on test with a friend. Just before (like 10/20min before the sex) I took another pill. And the results were absolutely incredible. I didn't count, but it lasted for 20min+, easily. At one point I was just wanting it to finish, but I couldn't.

In resume: Kegel exercises, start-stop training, self knowledge and Paroxetine 20mg. That was my cure.

The journey don't stop here. I will keep training until 30 min, at least. But the self esteem, the confidence and the happiness is just absurd. Don't give up, keep on tracking and soon you'll overpass it too.

Can I drink alcohol while on paroxetine and lamotrigine?

I currently take 20mg of paroxetine (for almost two months) and 25mg of lamotrigine (just starting out). I haven't drank anything since starting the meds but I will go to some meetups and a new year's eve party and I'm wondering if I could allow myself to drink a little, of course not nearly as much as I used to before at parties. I know that technically I shouldn't but you know how it is in practice. I'm not that insistent tho because while being drunk is quite fun in a way it also always makes my dissociation 100x worse so if I could excuse myself from drinking because of the meds it wouldn't be the end of the world for me.

Has anyone tried micro-dosing the above SSRIs to increase the synthesis of Allopregnanolone, as most of us know, Allopregnalone is responsible for a lot of good stuff like sex drive and Anxiolytic affects. It is a positive allosteric modulator of the GABAA receptor. The Nootropic Strezam does this, however it is known to be very harsh on the liver.

Experiencing withdrawal from SSRI - paxil/paroxetine

Hi guys! I have been taken off paroxetine, that I have been using for over a year now, by a psychiatrist and I'm currently experiencing withdrawal hell.

I was admitted to hospital last Thursday and the psychiatrist decided that paroxetine was not the right medicine for me and that I needed to stop it right away. I have been on 20mg, and she gave me a week where I was given 10mg, and today is the third day of me going without SSRI for many years.

I am going through HELL. This is literal hell. Brain zaps when I move my eyes in any direction, dizziness, nausea, muscle pain, insomnia, cold sweat, and nightmares. I will cold sweat all day no matter the temperature. It can be freezing cold and I will still sweat my ass off. I have incredibly vivid and disturbing nightmares. I am shivering constantly, and my body feel like jelly. I am in total agony.

I am in a medical care facility right now with 24/7 care, so I am in a safe environment and will receive help when needed, however I'm currently spending all my time moaning in excruciating agony and the doctors or nurses can't help me other than monitor me here at this facility till my symptoms go away.

I read online that withdrawal symptoms last 2 weeks to a month. I'm on day 3. I feel like there's no way I will survive feeling this way for 2 weeks, let alone a whole month. I never thought withdrawal from an ANTIDEPRESSANT would be this severe. Anyone else have experience with this?

Also, I read online that peroxetine should be tapered over MONTHS to minimize withdrawal symptoms. Any idea why my tapering was only a week? I went through a thorough evaluation by a medical team that determined that paroxetine was not the correct medicine for me. But I feel like even if it's not the right medicine I could've still tapered longer?

I apologize for scrambled thoughts. The reasoning I think you can imagine.

These are my questions :

  1. Is it normal to have symptoms this severe?
  2. Has anyone experienced this?
  3. Why was my medicine not tapered over a longer period of time? (when I ask the Dr, they just say that it wasn't the right medicine which doesn't tell me much)
  4. Any tips to survive this period of pure suffering?

Currently experiencing anorgasmia for the first time on Paroxetine, also concerned about post-SSRI sexual dysfunction and other long term effects. Should I stop?

Hello.

I've been on paroxetine for almost two weeks now (20mg) and am supposed to go to 30mg in a few days. I have been doing some reading and am quite concerned about SSRI's in general, especially their potential long term effects. I wouldn't describe my anxiety as severe but more-so moderate and inconsistent.

When I tried to talk to my psychiatrist about sexual side effects, he told me every drug has side effects even panadol and other things that I would take regularly. He also said that these effects go away when you stop taking the drug but personally I don't want to not be able to climax for a year or more depending how long I take it for.

So, is paroxetine really that effective in treating anxiety? And should I be worried about these side effects or expect the sexual side effects to pass when I have reached the timeframe for the drug's maximum effectiveness?

I also have ADHD diagnosed by a different psychiatrist however my new psychiatrist said that he couldn't diagnose it until my anxiety is under control so I'm not on stimulants but have been for a two months in the past.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

No side effects from paroxetine: am I just lucky?

I know my post may sound weird, but I'm genuinely curious. I've always read comments about terrible and heavy side effects from SSRI and paroxetine in particular. I'm on my fourth day on 10mg (I'll switch to 20mg at the end of the week) and so far I have not experienced any side effect: no particular nausea, no headaches, no dumbness.

Is it too early or is the dosage too low? Or maybe I'm just lucky? The absence of side effects sort of makes me wonder if the med is having effect on me or not.

Taken off paroxetine. Left with PSSD?

Hello,

I am 24 years old, male and have suffered from anxiety disorder since childhood. The slightest excitement makes me nauseous, causing me to vomit.

At 23 (late 2019) I started taking Paroxetine (20 mg) because I had extreme university stress and was about to graduate.

Within a few weeks I was feeling fabulous. The anxiety and nausea were just gone. I found my first job, my first girlfriend, and was able to do things I had never done before. I also had no side effects whatsoever. Anyway, I didn't really notice any changes. The side effects that occurred when I started paroxetine are gone (numb penis).

However, I decided to stop paroxetine again and was hoping that I could go on without medication. Within 2-3 weeks, I stopped paroxetine. That was December 2020, however, within a few days I started to suffer of premature ejaculation. But after a few weeks, this side effect was gone. I was then perfectly fine without the drug for the next 6 months.

Until I panicked again.

So I took paroxetine again. But this time 10 mg. I took this for 2 months and slowly stopped. From 10 mg to 5 mg and then completely stopped after 2 weeks.

The reason I didn't want to take paroxetine anymore was that I couldn't have sex. It would have been my first time, however, I had problems to get and hold an erection. Before taking this med, I was kind of hypersexual and aroused easily.ย I didn't have this problem when I took paroxetine from 2019-2020.

The last time I took paroxetine was 08-28-2021. As the last withdrawal, I suffered from premature ejaculation for 2-3 weeks. But it is still difficult to get and hold an erection. I also have the feeling that it actually got worse when I stopped. Also the desire to cuddle is not there. I feel very little love. Something like anhedonia?

To me it sounds like PSSD. I don't know what to do. I took paroxetine for 1 year and did not have such problems. And these 2 months have destroyed my brain. I should have never taken the drug a second time. Unfortunately, I was never aware of the side effects. I didn't know that side effects could continue after stopping.

Prescribed 10mg Paxil (paroxetine) for moderate GAD. Wanted to do some research before picking up the prescription but now I'm just more scared than anything.

Mostly, I see good reviews about lexapro, so so reviews of zoloft and bad reviews of paxil. I'm not sure why my doc went with this one but I also take a acid reflux med (famotidine) and when i searched it seems to have a moderate interaction with lexapro or zoloft but none with paxil. I plan to talk to pharmacist these things but I have some questions for anyone with experience:

-Are the side effects going to fuck me up?

if its diahrea or headaches its whatever. i dont want to be throwing up all the time or dizzy or fever or any crazy shit. ill just continue living with anxiety if thats the case

-can i get off the medication later on and be back to myself, how i am today

i dont want to be a permanently changed person or have new problems that i didnt have before ever starting this medication

-if paxil isn't great, what other med should i ask the doctor to consider?

-and finally, how large is a 10mg pill? can they be split? i have huge anxiety over swallowing pills so if it isnt quite small i probably wont be able to even take it

Scared of Seroxat (paroxetine), side effects?

So, I've been taking Seroxat for a little over two weeks now, starting at 5mg and now 10mg but I started having some reservations about it. First of all the visit at psychiatrist that prescribed me the drug was very... Brief... He mainly asked me about my physical symptoms and just gave me paroxetine without really discussing much. But i was in such a bad state then that I couldn't really think straight I didn't question anything I just went with it. I had some side effects for a couple of days, mainly nausa and dizziness but those went away now. Now I actually do feel a bit better, firstly I'm very calm and the world doesn't seem to be ending anymore, but it didn't help with my suicidal thoughts, maybe even made it worse. Also I'm experiencing something different - all my physical sensations are dulled too, so I don't feel hunger or the need to go to the toilet or touch or taste as much as I used to? Is this normal? And should I have gotten such a strong drug as my first antidepressant...? Also I've read that it's very hard to get off of and now I'm scared. I'm really scared. I don't know what to do.

SSRIs stopped working for you for PE? Paroxetine did for me after a couple years

I have the most extreme case of lifelong PE and the only thing that has ever worked are SSRIs.

I tried dapoxetine but benefits were minimal and side effects were too annoying. Best solution I found that worked wonders for a couple of years was Paroxetine 20mg, but unfortunately it gradually lost its effect down to a point that it merely adds a few seconds to my issue.

Iโ€™m planning of seeing an urologist soon and trying a different SSRI at a mid-high PE appropriate-dose to see if this helps. Iโ€™m not too optimistic as I know Paroxetine has been proved to have the best effect, but Iโ€™m desperate to find an alternative. If no SSRI works for me anymore, Iโ€™ll see if I can get Silodosin prescribed and give that a try.

Has anyone else been on an SSRI for a few years now and had it lost its effect for PE? I want to see if others have encountered similar cases like me of tolerance buildup as there is almost no research on this phenomenon.

More interest in cleaning after two months on Paroxetine

I was prescribed paroxetine for my anxiety, and for the first month it was just exhaustion and really very extreme anxiety.

The side effects began to taper off week by week until around two weeks ago when I started to become very interested in keeping my house clean. Way, way more interested than I ever was before.

In the past two weeks I've decluttered about 10 bin bags of pure rubbish and even more stuff to go to charity. When I clean now I get the same feeling I used to get from creating art.

Anyway I'm not sure if this is a feeling that will stick or not, but I really hope so. I have had problems with shopping addiction and the house I live in is too big for one person, so really easy to fill up with stuff. I'm not quite at the stage where even one surface can make it through the day without stuff landing on it, but already everything looks so much better.
