A list of puns related to "Paperwhite"
This isn't the most thought provoking or interesting post but there's no one else around me that has as much interest in reading and ereaders as I do so I thought I would share this moment with some like-minded people!!
My Clara should get here in a few days, and I'm so excited!! I already converted all my previous books to kebup and bought some new ones on the Kobo store!!
Does anyone else find the paperwhite 5 not as comfortable to hold as the regular 6 inch screen? That's disappointing, because I like the larger sized screen and warm light feature. Also, what is your opinion on the overall quality of the paperwhite 5 compared to the kobo libra 2?
I picked up a kindle paperwhite signature edition in the hopes that i will get back into reading. I used to read a lot, but fell away from it for a while. Iโm lately finding myself with a lot of different things competing for my attention, and decided to pick up a kindle to sort of turn that off. People kept saying just use your iPad or your phone, but I felt like a dedicated ereader had a place for me.
Anyway, what accessories do folks consider must haves? Iโm thinking of picking up a protective cover, but really donโt want something that will end up bulking it up. I dig how small and lightweight it is.
Also, it seems like the split on the screen is about 10%/90% down the middle as far as page back/page forward goes. This seems to be for people who would hold with their left hand. I seem to be holding it with my right hand and if I need to page back I have to use the other hand. First world problems I guess, but is there a setting that would reverse this split?
Thanks for reading, and any insight anyone wants to throw in, feel free! This is all 100% new to me.
Iโve had it for about a week now and Iโm finding myself wiping it down more and more. This is an upgrade from a 7th generation Paperwhite and that thing has always been immaculate on the screen. Maybe itโs because the newer ones are glossier?
It's been a year now since I wanted to get into reading as a hobby. For my whole life (M - mid 20's) I've only read 2 books that I'm not required to read and I've enjoyed reading them both. I'm not sure if it's just me, but my field is in medicine so I am forced to read medicine-related books. So in my mind, when I see a book, at the moment, it's still (kind of) a chore for me to read.
First book I've enjoyed reading is TimeRiders by Alex Scarrow, this was way back, probably 2010 or so. I was kind of forced to read this book as my school required us to read 30 minutes every morning but as I've progressed the book, I remember liking it, I remember the feeling of not wanting to close the book as I was "in" the moment. But when I've finished the book, I could not find the sequel in my local bookstore back then so that's how I stopped reading I guess.
Second book I've enjoyed reading is Atomic Habits by James Clear. Bought it months ago and fast forward 4-5 months later, I'm proud to say I've developed a habit of working out and I've lost around 22kg/48lbs so far.
Part of what I learned from James' book is when you want to develop a habit; make it easy to form the habit. I realized that the lack of access to the books I wanted is what made me stop reading. I tried reading with my iPad but my brain treats it as a medical textbook.
So, a few hours ago, with the vast book selection of Amazon and the internet in mind, I bought a Paperwhite 5 and I can't wait to receive it. I'm planning to keep medical textbooks solely on my iPad and books I want to read as a hobby solely on my Paperwhite.
I'm looking into self-help/business books at the moment similar to Atomic Habits, would love to have r/kindle's input on what I can read next. Or maybe, something similar to TimeRiders? I'm planning to read its sequels and I know it's a teen sci-fi book but I don't care, I just want to experience that feeling of not wanting to close a book again.
Hello,
I just got a new kindle (the new paperwhite) and it doesnโt have all the normal options in settings.
It just has 2 options under Reading Options: vocabulary builder and page refresh; no option to turn off highlights that others have made.
I googled and also went through the device but no luck.
Any advice?
Thanks!
Iโm really torn between the two. Iโve had a kindle for about 12 years, since the original keyboard; and a collection of about 400 books. My old oasis didnโt hold a charge and I was fed up with it being the only device with microusb; so itโs gone back to Amazon for a trade in.
Now Iโm trying to decide whether to move to a Kobo. I didnโt buy anything except ebooks from Amazon last year, because I dislike their ethics. Itโd have to be the sage, because of the flush screen and more capable processor. But Iโm resisting and think I may stay with the paperwhite; mainly because the paperwhite works out ยฃ120 cheaper (factoring in a sleep case); the battery on the sage seems to be significantly worse; and the performance also not as good. I also use kindles online notes and highlights reference a LOT, for non fiction books, in my work and writing, and Iโm worried about adding friction into that workflow. I donโt need the stylus support; I have an iPad Pro for that.
Wondering if anyone here has an opinion theyโd like to share?
I just dropped my aging Paperwhite and the screen did not survive. After mourning its passing for a few minutes, I am now choosing to celebrate this as the opportunity it is: the opportunity to get a new Kindle!
Iโve narrowed the decision to a Paperwhite Signature Edition or Oasis.
Are there any advantages to the Oasis that Iโm missing?
Thanks! And enjoy all the new Kindles under the tree tomorrow morning! Mine will be along shortly.
I use the Kindle app on my phone (Moto G7 Play), but I find myself being easily distracted by the rest of the apps on my phone, like Crossword Jam and of course Reddit. I also find the small screen on my phone irritating, and reading on my phone for a long period of time hurts my eyes much more than it does when I'm just reading a physical book.
So, my question is, is the Kindle Paperwhite (any version of it) worth the investment?
Thank you!
I have the top end version of the Paperwhite 4 (most storage, LTE). I'd have already purchased the Paperwhite 5 Signature Edition if it included LTE. It seems Amazon is going a different direction and no longer providing LTE versions of their Kindles. That mostly makes sense, but I have just found it is so convenient to always have a data connection and never having to worry about pages syncing. There have been a few times that I have went somewhere and forgotten to purchase the book I was planning to read, of course LTE made that not a big deal. I know Wi-Fi and/or phone pairing would solve that issue but I just cannot mentally get rid of LTE.
That said, I'd love the warmer lighting of the new Paperwhite paired with wireless charging (Signature Edition) and USB-C. For those that have the newer version, should I just go for it and stop using LTE as a crutch? Could I even save money and just get the regular (non-signature) edition? USB-C may be a huge enough upgrade that wireless charging means less. How is the auto-adjusting light of the signature edition?
Hello, Iโm planning to buy my first e-reader and itโs hard for me to choose between paperwhite 4 and 5. Actually Iโm more likely to pick ppw4 but Iโm afraid if 6,8 inch screen is really better for reading manga (Iโll read both books and manga). Does the screen size make huge difference here?
Hello Im approching to buy an ereader and im pretty confused at the moment.
For me the most important things in ereaders are essentially 3.
On the first two pointa i saw that che kindle are generally faster, however Libra 2 screen rock so hard.
So my only questions are around how Kobo in 2022 manage the Highlights vs Kindle Paperwhite
So:
Honestly the biggest thing for me is the warm light and usb c charging, the waterproofing and faster hardware is just a nice bonus. I don't know why you'd want the signtaure edition for the extra price really. Wireless charging is very gimmicky and way less efficient, not to mention you still have to carry a cable with you anyways if you go somewhere, and auto brightness always makes it too bright/dim for my tastes anyways. I'm excited for it to come and being able to read myself to sleep is gonna be so nice ๐
Hey guys! Has anyone ordered the latest Paperwhite recently? Iโve been wanting to upgrade my current Paperwhite so I bit the bullet and ordered, but now itโs been over a week & itโs not loading my order status. I guess Iโve just been spoiled with 2 day prime shipping :(
I have a Kindle PW4, and I'm planning to buy a PW5 soon for the warm light. Looking at all the posts here has made me consider the Kids Edition for the cool case and no ads. I probably won't use the Kids subscription though.
I'm planning to give my PW4 to my friend who has a kid, so he'll have better use for the subscription than I will. Is there a way to give the kids subscription to their account on the PW4, considering that I won't use it on my PW5? Thank you!
This will be my first kindle, i'm an occasional reader. I will not be buying now but during the next sale.
I'm ok with the price of either of them and plan to use them for the next 5 years.
I canโt pick between the 2019 base Kindle and the new Paperwhite. I had the Paperwhite 2 before this. My question is would the base Kindle be a downgrade/sidegrade? Iโm asking because the Paperwhite has some nice features but it costs 2x the price of the regular Kindle. Also, the base Kindle is over 2 years old now, so idk if I should wait for a refresh instead.
Edit: Guess I'll be getting the Paperwhite then. Thanks for the input, everyone.
I bought a Kindle Paperwhite 4 (2019, 10th gen) about 5 months ago on sale. Of course the new Paperwhite models were announced shortly after. Iโm a fan of switching everything in my tech collection to USB-C and the amber light feature seems promising as i like to read at night in bed.
Is it worth the upgrade? I heard complaints that the smaller bezels makes it harder to hold and its heavier than the 10th gen. Should I wait to see what the upgraded Oasis models bring?
Would love some thoughts on those that bit the bullet and bought the newest models.
Thanks.
Hi everyone,
I received my Kindle Paperwhite as a Christmas gift, so I have been using it for around 3 weeks and last night it broke down on me. What happened seems to be pretty common upon my review of others issues in this thread. The books in my library disappeared, so I restarted and then *poof* the tree screen never ended.
I did all the troubleshooting everyone recommended and contacted Amazon and they are sending me a new one. My question for you is: can anything be done to avoid this in the future? My kindle was basically brand new and there was no damage to it, so I am wondering if anything can be done on my part so this doesn't happen again.
So i got my Kindle Paperwhite today. I got the kids version with that came with the cover. I have my whole library as epubs, and I'm away visiting family, so i don't have a access to calibre, but i want to start reading. So i set up the Kindle email, added my personal email to the trusted sources in the document settings, and used a converter to change an epub to mobi format, then sent it to the Kindle email. But when I check the library, it's still empty. I've tried a view different books, and none of them show up on the Paperwhite. Any idea what i missed?
Edit: solved by u/limeygarp The approvals emails that Amazon sends were being sent to a different email address associated with the Amazon account, rather than the registered approval email for this device.
