A list of puns related to "Oyez"
Pourquoi avez-vous décidé d'intégrer le mouvement de Génération Zemmour ?
Yelling that a game is dying is not going to save it, or kill it. If it dies, it dies. If not, then it's not useful to really draw attention to one way or another, please stop posting about the player count or that the game is dying folks. Grandpas die too, you don't yell at them that it's happening the whole time do you
THIS DISHONOURABLE RANT THREAD IS NOW IN SESSION.
What do town criers traditionally say to gain attention? What words are used to bring a court to order in the US and Britain?
I remember "Hear ye, hear ye!"
But no, apparently its "Oyez" and always has been.
What on Earth? It seems it is an obscure French word meaning "Hear ye" that has been used since the medieval era, but the actual words "Hear ye" were never used.
I've seen a proliferation of fics recently which use the word "yea" incorrectly when they really mean "yeah." Please stop.
"Yea" is an archaic word which means yes. It's pronounced "yay." The opposite of "yea" is "nay," an archaic way of saying no. The only modern usage is as a formal way of referring to a yes vote, e.g. in the US House of Representatives. (example)
So unless your fic takes place in the 1700s, has Taylor as a congressperson, or features some LARPing, stay away from "yea."
It's an informal, casual way of saying "yes." It's probably what you meant. It's typically pronounced with the same vowel sound as in apple, and bat, although a dialectical variation is "YEE-uh."
Wow, you're really curious, aren't you? I love that. "Oyez" is an even more archaic word meaning "pay attention." Pronunciations include "oh-YAY" and "oh-YES." It's used to open certain court sessions:
Most courts in the US no longer use it, but I'm sure that won't stop you from using it in your fics inappropriately!

Hey guys
Thought I’d post here, I couldn’t think of a more relevant subreddit which to post in. Id be glad to move this thread if inappropriate.
Is there any place that hosts audio recordings of oral arguments from the DC circuit where Kavanaugh and Garland are seated? I’m familiar with the podcast Audio Arguendo, the site/podcast Oyez, and I’m also aware of the 9th circuit court of appeals audio that takes the form of a podcast and is also sprinkled all across the Internet... unfortunately, in the case of the 9th circuit arguments, I’ve found it very hard to find descriptions of the cases, so short of listening to the audio itself cannot tell what matter is being argued.
So I wanted to ask if you guys knew of a place where that DC circuit audio might be.. as well as any other higher court audio of oral arguments might exist.
Thanks! Day 3 of Kavanaugh’s hearing is starting right now.. enjoy.
"FLOOOOOOSH" - A U.S. Supreme Court justice, during oral arguments
President Trump announced that his administration will continue to press the Supreme Court to repeal the Affordable Care Act, in the middle of a pandemic that will make millions more Americans reliant on its coverage. Perhaps someone should tell him that having health insurance is “popular”:
Trump said today that the White House coronavirus task force will “continue on indefinitely,” contradicting his own comments on Tuesday. He told reporters that he changed his mind about winding it down because he “had no idea how popular the task force is until actually yesterday,” which is to say, he reversed himself for the only reason he does anything—his own personal interests. Trump’s tweets suggested that the task force could see a change in members and a shift in focus, which poses an interesting thought experiment: How many doctors can you replace with Jared Kushner’s friends before the ship of Theseus is no longer the same ship, and is actually a Sigma Chi frat house?
A New York Times investigation of Kushner’s shadow task force details the full incompetence of his team of volunteers. In one damning episode, a doctor with longtime manufacturing contacts, who had a lead on millions of masks from established suppliers, reached out to FEMA to offer his help. His information wound up in the hands of Kushner’s private-equity brigade, which ignored it in favor of leads from political allies like Charlie Kirk and a former Apprentice contestant. It was also (of course) these doofuses who passed along an unvetted tip from Yaron Oren-Pines, a Silicon Valley engineer who ultimately won a $69 million contract from New York for more than 1,000 ventilators, none of which were delivered. Anywho, Kushner is now in charge of getting us a vaccine by the end of the year, if anyone’s trying to offload a few million vials of Ca
